Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have to read Shahnameh and artistically criticize photos. I am going to force this quarter to be enjoyable.

I did a 15 page research paper about the artwork of the Shahnama that was done in Mamluk Egypt... if you want I could send it to you...or I can send you the bibliography for the sources...That was when I translated an article from French with the use of the rudimentary French that I learned from my sister and some help from babelfish... *sigh* that was one of my favorite classes...

Hey! Good job going to the gym 👍

I cannot seem to get below 10 minutes per mile if I am running more than one mile... I can do a mile in 7 minutes and 45 seconds, but if I am doing more... I usually run at 10 minutes a mile... which sucks...

Any ideas on how to get faster?

Umm, lose weight and do cardio? Squat/deadlift?

But I need to get magna... I worked too hard to mis out just because I was lazy... plus, these are all classes that I am geniunely interested in... and I am taking them not because I have to, but because I want to...

Yea i feel ya...I am the exact same way. Almost all my classes are electives within my major that I dont have to take but am taking becuase I am genuinely interested in them. Getting good grades is so much easier, and school is MUCH more fun when you are taking classes that you enjoy 👍 (this is also why I'm excited for med school!!!!)

Hey, this will actually be good material for tomorrow! I am going back to my high school to give a speech at the college fair. I'm going to be talking about choosing a major/finding your passion!

Did that... I was able to build up endurance... as in running a 10K in an hour... which is supposedly slow...and still 10 min a mile...
Yeah, I think it just takes time to build up fast/longer runs.

I'm going for a mile tonight.

Maybe...
Good luck on the mile!:luck:

I used to run a lot a few years ago, but then ochem happened, my spirits were dampened, and my exercise went to zero.

Just start again... Last year, I went from a completely sedentary lifestyle to a slightly more active one... It is tough at first but then you get used to it...

I "ran" 13 minute mile in middle school, now I run 6min

Same here... except I "ran" a 13 minute mile last year:laugh:...it took me 6 months to cut it down to 7 min 45 sec... but if I run at that speed then I cannot run any more without taking at least a 10 minute break...

Thats the worst and only hard part man......getting BACK in to shape is friken miserable. Your body aches afterwrads, you are suckin wind during, and its just not fun. Same goes for weightlifting, going back to the gym after a long time is brutal. Once you get past that first week and in to a groove tho its smooth sailin and your body starts feelin great.

Speaking of exercise, i'm off to rugby practice. peace yall!

I thought endurance wasn't a problem for you? Then you'd have to work on cardio and lose fat

I say you start mixing in short sprints/fast runs or do some HIIT...should get your speed up.

It also helps to put on some lean muscle...it makes losing weight/fat easier.

Endurance is not really a problem...I just need to work on it some more... I stopped running during the summer since I hurt my knee twice... I think it was my ACL...and then during fall, because of interviews I missed a lot of days due to flights/ playing catchup with my classes, so I started putting on some of the weight that I had lost, and now I am trying to lose it again...

What is HIIT? High Intensity Inertia Training?????

5 minute 20 second mile anyone? :]

Chubby what was your fastest ever 400?

51 seconds for me, ahhhhhhhhhhh I win.

You cant be lazy you applied to 70 schools and finished like 60??? secondaries..that takes alot of work and dedication if you ask me, haha.

Nope... 49/67... I think... I really do not wanna count all of them... but those involve sitting on your butt snacking while writing essays... not any sort of physical exercise...

1. Can I have some money?

2. Why did you apply to so many!

1. Nope... I am actually broke right now I have exactly $18.93... my scholarship residual money has not come in yet... I do not understand why people think I am rich😕 I am middle class...

2. Mumsy and Dadums were afraid I was not gonna get into medical school... a lot of their friends kids did not get in....

Thats kind of funny...its like the total opposite of what most parents would do...."baby, medical school would be stupid not to accept you...schnookums"

haha

Heh, my parents were like 'beg any school to accept you, please with your sh*tty academic record.' Yeah, I'm the failure in my family...lol.

Nope, when you have Indian parents you get tough love... my dad even tells me that he finds it wrong to praise children for their accomplishments because then they will be satisfied and get lazy... at least for my sister and me...

For my little brother (aka the perfect golden child, and king of the universe) it is all sunshine and all that good stuff...

If you have a "sh*tty academic record" then are your parents and siblings super geniuses?

My mom told me to go to Tulane because it is in NOLA, and my dad did not think I could get into medical school three years ago. I did this whole thing on my own

(But it also explains why I never received any gifts like sweatshirts or mugs after being accepted)

EXACTLY the same for me.

Why does she want you to go to N'Yawlins?

Odd, our younger siblings must be sharing rulership of the cosmos.

You should be...

I should not have quoted your post...

But my headphones broke, so I cannot watch anything, and it is too early in the quarter to start studying...

That's funny.... N'awlins was my parents' worst nightmare. They were more than thrilled when I was accepted and/or waitlisted in other places besides Tulane. The program is wonderful, the city isn't for me.

Just not the same since Katrina...and downtown N.O. has never really been my thing. But the school was cool 🙂

My mom is just mad that I'm not going to Harvard, cause it totally ruins her bragging to her friends...both my older sisters went to ivy-level schools and I didn't (never mind the fact that I had to move to a new country and learn a new language at 13 and that it kinda screwed up my high school grades a bit), and while one sister ended up not using her degree cause she found it boring and the other never actually graduated, I'm the one that has the problem cause she didn't go to Harvard. Nor am I going to Harvard (or Hopkins, or another one of those "everyone has heard of it" med schools) next year.

Sigh....parents.
