Hey, I submitted my AMCAS today too! This is a sorta nice part of the app cycle since there's not a whole lot to do. The PS and activities are done, I'm waiting on my MCAT scores, and I don't have secondaries yet. I actually have some time to read for fun! You'll get there too once that pesky MCAT is done.

I can't freakin wait! I'm actually going on vacation after mcat...screw reading! We've done enough reading studying for this test. But you should start some secondaries with your free time. You'll be thankful later!
But I still felt like my PS wasn't perfect...I don't think that feeling could have gone away. So, I just sent it.

Yeah, I wasn't completely sold on my PS either, but I got compliments on it last cycle and I feel my additions are solid. It probably wasn't going to get any better if I agonized over it longer. I do have the prompts from last cycle's secondaries, but I'm going to give myself a day or two off before I look at those. Always good to have a deserved break!

So, I was verified this morning.. but my status says "Application has been made available to the designated medical schools." which makes it sound like it's already been sent out. They definitely don't go out until June 24th, right?

On another note, I got engaged this past week so have been waaaaaaay distracted from the fact that my MCAT scores come out June 26th! Looks like that throws a loop in my choosing of a med school as my fiance will be looking for grad schools also. 😍

Regarding your question, I'm pretty sure AMCAS doesn't send the apps until late in June, around the 24th.

Oh really? So it wouldn't even be possible to get secondaries until at least after this date? I didn't submit this early last year, so I didn't know that.

What about schools that don't screen (i.e. instant secondaries)?

Hang in there, berk, it's almost over! It is perfectly normal to be freaking out at this point, yes.

Had a lovely day off from work. Dropped off some additional shadowing letters at other specialties... still driving around about 15 of them in my car but it started pouring rain so I took a break at home. Cleaned house and hanging out. NOT ready to go back tomorrow.

Congrats to all of you who have submitted in the last couple of days. We're gonna have the best med school class ever!!!
 
My gf almost killed me b/c of the amount of time I was spending on the AMCAS

Soon.. secondaries will come

How are you guys balancing med school apps and a s/o? Any advice would help greatly lol
 
Okay, submitted 6/4 and verified today. What a relief! I do have one questions. The AMCAS instructions say that once our app is verified, they use some symbols to show whether or not changes were made, and a "/" means no change. Is this something that we can see? I look at my coursework and it is all there, no symbols to be found though. Anyone know what's up? Also we are supposed to be able to see our GPAs? Thanks.

Try the "Print application" button, I think those marks along w/ the GPA might be on the PDF.

That's correct - it has been verified through AMCAS and another outside source that applications will be available to schools beginning on June 24th this cycle.

Some schools (Columbia, Hopkins), have secondaries that don't require them to have received your application. Some of them are opening up on June 15th - for these you have to create an account on their website. Nearly all schools still have to receive the applications before sending secondaries, even those who don't receive. So don't expect too many secondaries to come in before mid-July.

those of you who have already sent your apps I'm jealous. My application is just about done but I'm waiting on transcripts to be posted. Do I need to wait for them to post before I submit my application or can I push the button?

you can...but you still have to wait for the transcripts before they do anything. I don't think there's any advantage either way

Yeah, I hadn't realized that. Suddenly I have a few weeks with nothing really to do. I mean, I could re write some of my secondary answers from last cycle, but if secondaries won't be here until July, why rush it? Now I have no idea what to do with my time. I almost cracked an MCAT book out of habit. 😀

I, too, am idling here waiting on secondaries. 14 days.

Thankfully I have a class right now so that's keeping me a little busy. It ends the last week of june, which makes it incredibly fast paced. Tonight is midterm/halfway point (no actual test, its a grad class). Thurs night and two more weeks until it is done.
 
I'm still working on my personal statement. I'm meeting with my brother tonight and I'm hoping we can come up with a near-final draft of my PS. Then I'll be sending it off to some people on here for comments and I hope to submit by early next week (Tuesday at the LATEST). Because they already have my transcript (I only have one) it shouldn't take too long to get verified, right?

I had my one required transcript sent maybe 2 weeks ago and I submitted the AMCAS yesterday. Today my app is listed as "Ready to Review" so we'll see how long that takes...

Me too!

I submitted 6/5 and since yesterday (6/9) my app has been "under review." I just checked now and my app has still not been verified... I only have one transcript so I'm not sure what's taking so long. I hope there's nothing wrong with my application!! :scared:
 
Haha, I think my verifier sensed my frustration... I just checked again and i'm verified (less than a minute after my previous post)!! :laugh::laugh:

They doing an AMCAS verify thread this year? I didn't see one yet. It does seem a little irrelevant though. Not quite as important as the Interview, Waitlist, and Acceptance threads.

Let me verify as of today, the 24th is the target date for AMCAS to release apps to programs. Relax....enjoy.....the real stress begins during the long interview season (~Sep-Mar) and then the multiple acceptance/wait list process. A lot of waiting, hoping, and finally getting the invites and offers.
 
Just stopping in to say whats up...I'm studying for my last two finals. Vert physio tomorrow and Medical Terminology Thurs. More than my finals, I am nervous about a meeting I'm having with one of my letter writers where I have to do an oral current events quiz...:scared:

In order for them to write you a letter?? Eeek! That's scary!

I finally asked for my last letter, I had a doctor that I shadowed that I wanted to wait to ask until he knew me better, and he told me he would have it finished before he left on vacation on the 23rd.. so I will feel better when that last letter is in.

I've been having MCAT nightmares, though! Last night.. I got a 21.

man I'm glad my brain hasn't gone that far. i've taken up quilting to pass my limbo land time since i only have two classes. i wonder if i should attach a picture of it to one of my secondaries...
 
Just heard back from O.B. - another shadowing opportunity awaits! I'm meeting with the doc tomorrow after work to tour and get to know him. Hopefully I'll start the 30th or before - I only have mondays and after work hours right now, so if I can do any oncall work with him it'll be sooner. The 30th is my first available monday, since I committed to allergy & asthma yesterday.

This one will be exciting! 🙂🙂

I had an epiphany last night. I'm taking the MCAT on the 13th, and I'm going to be in the class of '13. And I'm going to get a 13 in each section! 😛

I made a promise during my second MCAT waiting-for-results period that i'd become a donor if I got the score I needed.

15 months later...... :laugh:

Thank you LCW! I am planning on finding a clinical research job, if not I am going to maybe coach football and baseball at my old high school. I don't know, just planning on chillaxin, spending time with my wife and enjoying the ride!

At this point just try to relax as much as you can. Get some good sleep the next two nights and take tomorrow off of serious studying! This made me feel much, much better headed into D-Day.
