I went to the doctor, waited forever, felt like I was behind on work all morning.... and typed up one journal response for class.

I guess I have gotten a few things done (the shot and the hwk) but I feel... ugh.

Thank you 🙂

My day is going good. My clinical director is out of town on vacation so I am playing on the internet while working. Nothing yet, still waiting.

Really? It's not that bad.

Popeyes is the chicken place, right? I don't think they have it in california...?

You better belive we have popeyes in California. Yes we do and I for one, love Popeyes!

i just got a feeling of excitement that we are starting medical school in less than 6 months! (i hope my math is right)

less than 4 months until i'm a student once again!!!!!!:soexcited:

yess! ryserr! where have you been. i've been waiting for you to see my new avatar haha. do you know who it is?

i know who he is, but i don't know anything about rugby (so i guess that means i cheated😀).

so that talk about accents a few pages ago got me thinking:

i find it soooo interesting that i'll probably be classmates with people with all different sorts of accents (southern, new england, etc.). the undergrad i went to was mostly constituted of locals, so i'm kind of excited to hear different accents from people all over the country during med school.

i guess i'm nerdy, but i find people's accents to be so interesting (and blues, i have to tell you, in my book, anyone with a kiwi accent is automatically cool). 😀

anyone else ever consider this?

I changed my avatar...

And myuu before you will have seen this, I will have closed this screen

and blues, i have hummus and falafel almost every week!!!! i see we have similar tastes in food. 🙂

man, i 😍 food and cooking!

kind of... the photo's file name contains the name of the player. 😛
haha wow i'm observant.

he's carlos spencer. known as The King. watch these sick moves

he does a banana kick that is amazing, one of the first players and only in rugby union to use that move. unfortunately i cant find a video of it and many people don't appreciate him

i can fry them, but i can't remember how to make the mix (my mom is always the one that makes it)...i'll see if i can get a recipe for you (us weird arabs cook without measurements).

and i agree about the irish accent! 😀

haha did you look him up?

blues, CT is the least competitive field in surgery, it's even less competitive than general surgery. I think it's b/c of a heavy workload, many of the procedures being replaced by interventional cardiology, and less problems with stuff like congenital heart failures.

radiology is competitive but not super competitive like derm and some of the surgical specialties.

I agree, accents rule, especially british ones and ones from former colonies, and especially on non-white ppl haha, i dunno why i think that. My accent is impossible to place, i grew up in the midwest and lived on both coasts, so I have a perfect TV dialect I guess.

It is a disaster outside, rain and almost freezing temperatures... I have anatomy in an hour too 🙁

hey, i cook without measurements too. unless i'm baking. i say we have skill 🙂 i can fry em too, dam, now i really want some falafel

oh really. good to know, thanks for the info drizz. i'm really unsure what i want to specialize in. i feel like i don't need to know but then people scare me saying that we need to do research starting from day1. i am interested and want to do research, but does it really matter if i do research in one field and end up wanting to specialize in another. i just feel i need to go through third year to know for sure what i want to do.

hmm, for me the british one can kinda sound arrogant, so i like irish more but that's just me hehe. my accent is messed up to. new zealand in origins but now with slightly more nasaly american vowels

the weather blows here too 🙁

Hopefully I get in, In Jesus Name, and I will be starting in May. That is in 12 weeks. I am hoping to do their 6 week pre-matriculation program! WOW! It is going to come really fast.

That was a good song, his new album is kinda meh.

Better than the feeling I get: nausea.

Lol, their chicken is ok (nuggets, selects, crispy chicken sandwich). I stopped getting burgers from them a while ago.

Really? It's not that bad.

Popeyes is the chicken place, right? I don't think they have it in california...?

I like their sides a lot more than KFC.

I cook w/o measurements too, I did that in the lab too, which really pissed off the grad students but I got better results than them 😀

personally I think the field of research is somewhat overblown. Yes in CERTAIN fields it's advantageous to have certain types of research, but those are usually ones in which the research in the field is very specific. Some examples of this would be physics based research for radiation oncology, basic science research for neurosurgery, and biomechanics research for ortho.

That said, I think in many ways, the quality of your research is going to be important, as well as your nature and involvement in it. Certainly if you have a good pub (major journal, esp as first author) and appear like you actually did a lot of the work, that's going to be a plus no matter what area/field the research is in. Residency directors are fully aware that people make up their minds late and change them. If you have good solid research in an area that you're interested in and fully participate in the research, you should be fine. maybe you wouldn't be as well off as someone who wanted to go into neurosurg that has 3 years of research and 10 pubs in the field, but you also wouldn't have to live like that either 😀

back in undergrad one of my suitemates was a girl from HK who had a perfect upper class british accent... 😍 lol

BTW don't worry that much about the field thing. My brother decided at the very very end of 3rd year and was able to get into a super competitive specialty (urology) at a very top program without any basic science research at all.

i totally did this undergrad and my lab partner loved me for getting the right results. she was very hesistant at first haha.

i second this too. yes i want to be doctor really bad, but yes i'd like to live a little too.

yea, i mean currently i am interested in surgery: CT, plastic (burn not cosmetic), ortho and EM. other pre-meds just freak me out sometimes.

ok good to know 👍
