Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm STARVING. My coworker just went to sweet peppers. I'm getting a grilled chicken caesar salad (caesar on the side, the dip the fork approach) that will be yummy and healthy.

I also got a small cup of potato salad. Not healthy, but I can't pass it up. A little bit wont be that bad for me 🙂
that sounds delicious 😍 I'm hungry, too

...wait, so the episode on-line (hulu.com) is not the one ar2388 was referring to?

🙁

How long am I gonna have to wait to see it? 🙁

booo...

Does Fox have full episodes online? I know NBC and CBS do.

Well, it can't be football season year-round.

And basketball is a much sloppier game now than I remember.

Meh, it depends. I agree that baseball gets a lot better in the playoffs.

OK I'm seriously NOT happy about that spoiler. 😡😡

I was going to watch it tonight!

Geez...👎thumbdown

Glad I wasn't the only one 🙁

Yeah, to be honest, I have no right to be irritated over what's posted on the internet. Haha. 😛

It's just that House is one of only two shows that I watch.

Oh well, I'll get over it.

Probably watch it soon since I have no class today 😀.

Yay for no class 🙂 It's also pretty much only one of two shows I watch, and the other is Spurs games 😀

I wonder if I will get to 5K today.

I kind of doubt it.

But we'll see.

Cmon, go for it!!! 😀

OK, off to astronomy!

ohhh...Good point! I'll have to look for it there.

My posts today have been rather negative, unfortunately. Maybe I should try to get to 5K with actually constructive posts 😳.

Always look on the bright side of life~o/`

FIGHT!

I don't know much about either, but I've heard better things about UIC than RFU.

BTW, anyone else geeky enough to play D&D (any edition)?

Not I, though I used to play Magic: The Gathering when I was in junior high. That was pretty nerdy 😛

I'm probably geeky enough but somehow it never happened. It's only fairly recently that I've had friends who're also geeky. Mostly we're video gamers.

Unless you count playing Munchkin. 😀 Or PC games that are D&D influenced.

You didn't read the title of my post! 🙂

OOS at UIC is crazy expensive. I didn't get the Chicago track, I got placed in Rockford (middle of nowhere). Would have to move twice. GF wouldn't be able to join me for at least a year.

RFU had a decent match, is probably underrated. Would be close enough to Chi-town for GF to get a job that would sustain for all 4 years.

(Can't you guys see why I want ANY WL spot to open up!?!)

Oh and TOP!

Hehe, my boyfriend is really really into MTG and I just started learning. Ok. I've been learning for over a year now but we almost never play. Its fun but I have no intention of getting as into it as he is.

heh I used to play Warcraft 3 in middle school, and I still do now, sad lol...

I love playing in MtG tourneys. Definite intelligence requirement there... Had my butt handed to me by pre-teens.

don't. I got into it over the summer, wasted a few benjamins and lost interest now 🙁

Is there really a difference in research opportunities between these 2 schools?

Moving around during med school seems stressful, and it's clear you don't want to live in the middle of nowhere. RFU for the win.

I think with the minimal difference (especially not being at Chicago campus for more research opps) RFU is in the lead.

Just going to wait on Fin Aid, and then probably withdraw.

Nice Chuck Card!

Yeah, it cost a decent amount of money to collect good cards. And I wasn't as wealthy back in the day as I am now

aw boo...looks like episodes are on-line 8 days after they air. = lame-o.

Our children's hospital just announced their restart of a pediatric cardiac surgery team at our hospital. We have a collaborative effort with Children's National and they have been coming and doing some ped.card surgery about once a month, we fly out the sickest kids. In the future, we'll be self-sufficient once again 🙂

I'm really excited about this all coming together while I'm in school. Lots of experience. At this time, I'm not thinking ped.card.surgery, but the experience will be uber cool.

TO: MY FELLOW SDN 2013'ers

What's up guys! So I guess you can say I am in somewhat of a good position: I have been offered a pretty substantial scholarship to one particular school and I was hoping to get another school to at least match the offer. I called this particular school today only to be told the scholarship committee already met by someone in the financial aid office. I do not have much experience with this so, I am not sure what to do next; however, I do not want to just give up.

What should I do next? Should I call the dean of admissions?

thanks guys,

me too! I have 4 accounts going to my gmail and will add a 5th as soon as I get my nyu email 👍

This board needs spoiler tags. I've seen them implemented on phbb boards before, but I don't know if that's a default item or if it would need to be hand-coded...

Nothing sad about that! 🙂

Double ouch. And that is why I stick to drafting and playing with friends. 😀

Ok, back to work!

Thanks for the shout out Riceman. I wish I knew a little more about the financial process. My personal feeling is that med school should be like any other market and thus you should be able to create a demand for yourself; thereby creating a bidding war for your matriculation. I would definitely work my way up the ladder, with each rung that person is going to have more to work with. My choice would be go contact the dean of Admissions or at least the head of financial aid; but I would wait to see what the consensus is.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Spoiler tags are very important!

I admit, if I still watched House and cared about that spoiler, I'd have flipped. I'm really, really picky about spoilers and generally good about avoiding them in the obvious places.

Based on what I see here, I think you'd be set at RFU. Kind of tough but RFU grads tend to do well. You seem like a motivated guy so you should be alright. I don't know about the research opportunities at RFU, though - but there isn't much to get in Rockford either... Hopefully Pitt or Miami comes through for you because that will work out better in terms of research.

heh I used to play Warcraft 3 in middle school, and I still do now, sad lol...

I don't remember Warcraft 3 in middle school... maybe Starcraft, but Warcraft 3 didn't come out until I was in college, and that was 2004ish. I could be wrong because I never played Warcraft 3..

Dude riceman, if I didn't know you in RL, I would assume you were smoking crack or something. Calm down!! Can you rephrase the above??

Anyway I would definitely consider doing what 09-13 (sorry too lazy to type the stuff in between in that name, lol) said.

How willing are you as far as going to the second school in question? I remember based on LizzyM's posts in the past that you might have to be willing to play a little chicken, i.e. be absolutely willing to withdraw if you don't get the scholarship. In short, you have to be kind of aggressive and willing to play to win, if that makes sense.

thanks guys,

I agree with RoadRunner. It depends on how far you're willing to go with the second school.

Congrats on the scholarship though riceman!

YES 😀 Why?

Not I, though I used to play Magic: The Gathering when I was in junior high. That was pretty nerdy 😛

You're talking to the guy who included it on his application

I am super-geek! 😀

I love playing in MtG tourneys. Definite intelligence requirement there... Had my butt handed to me by pre-teens.

But it's sooo much fun if you can work your way up to being the guy on top 🙂

Ill look into it.

👍 Thanks! I'd been wondering why we don't have them.

Just did the MSAT (Medical Specialty Aptitude Test) and guess what my #1 is?

Wait for it...

Wait for it...

Peds! Who would have thought?! Almost full results available in my blog.

hahahahahaha...yeah...sorry

School A is throwing $$$$ at me and I am hoping to get School B to at least match the offer. I call School B's fin. aid office and spoke to a lady who told me essentially all scholarships had been awarded (she was not head of fin aid dept). I was wondering what should I do next? Should I e-mail the dean of admissions?

All that other stuff was me playing around...part inside joke about a certain X-SDNer who went crazy"
