haha Yay! I *maybe* got admitted to UMiami. :laugh:

I'll have a *maybe* celebration!

Why do these schools have to call at all the wrong times!!! Argh...the waiting is driving me crazy!

PS. And for those of you guys rejected by Mayo and Pitt -- at least your rejection doesn't say "Notified of non-selection, cost of interview NOT refunded."
 
i got accepted at Rosalind Franklin today. i'm excited that I have a choice now 🙂

i think i'd pick maryland over RFU, but i did like ros. too.



and chad: sorry about pitt! have you heard from maryland yet? maybe this week! i'll keep my fingers crossed

Heh, no I'm just saying: I interviewed at both schools: hold at Mayo, WL at Pitt. Will probably be rejected from both.

The only difference between me and the other people rejected is that I paid some hundreds of dollars to go visit, really enjoy each school, and THEN several months LATER get rejected.

Im good. Just relaxing and about to eat dinner. I went looking for suits today for my interview. I am getting more excited everyday. Kind of a funny day. I am going to be doing this saturday science academy for kids k-12 here in compton and the woman over the program, her son is the director of admissions at Morehouse. I didn't believe her at first and then she showed me his picture, I was like yup, that's him! LOL! I did apply to Morehouse and they put me on hold. She called him right there while we were in her office. Funny, well at least I thought.

Thanks guys! I honestly don't care about any of these other schools if I get accepted to Columbia... but unfortunately I won't know anything until MARCH! Argh!

Congratulations! That is so awesome - having a choice is definitely great, and it's a good feeling to know that you're wanted by multiple schools! I haven't heard from Maryland yet, but I called yesterday and they said (after scolding me for calling :laugh:) that they either didn't get to my file or one of my interviewers wasn't at the meeting. They send their decisions immediately after making them so no news isn't necessarily bad news (which is good news to me)...
 
It really hasn't sunk in that I'm going to medical school next year. Is it just me, or is it still so far away that it hasn't really "hit you"?

Yeah, I'd agree. It's 10 months away, but that seems so far. I feel like I should be doing something to prepare, but I can't even fill out the FAFSA yet!
 
It definitely has not sunk in yet for me.

I really wish this whole application cycle were more streamlined! It spans way too much time (especially when you're waitlisted and not going to be considered until mid-May).

I hear ya on that. I was on post-interview hold at one school last cycle from early October until April, THEN I was waitlisted.

Man, that cycle took forever.
 
I got my first acceptance. It is to a school that I thought I blew the interview, so it was a surprise.

I am still going crazy waiting for the rest. I always thought this day would be some giant release, but I find that I'm still totally stressing over the schools that I want to go to more.

I wish they would just interview you in the morning, give you a few hours off, maybe send you to the movies or something, and then have you back for dinner and everyone gets a packet on their way out that has a Yes or No letter in it. Done and done. Wouldn't that be so nice?

I hate waiting.

There's plenty of time to worry about your other choices, but at least try to let yourself enjoy this first one thoroughly.

Do you plan to review any material beforehand? I'm not a gunner, but I was thinking about reviewing anatomy beforehand just so that the stress is a bit less the first semester.

I actually was (contrary to every thread that covers this topic on SDN). At the urging of a family member in med school, I'm going to try to learn the names of as many bones and muscles as I can between now and then. Nothing about function, innervations, connections or that stuff. As she put it:

"Med school is like learning a foreign language. Nouns can be learned pretty easily, but verbs, syntax, inflection, and grammar are harder. Learn the nouns ahead of time, and you'll already have some tools to form sentences."

BTW, she was an English/Spanish double major.

In other news... I got waitlisted at UVM. I'm not too surprised or disappointed, since nearly all OOS interviewees are waitlisted before they're accepted. The mail STILL has not come yet today, and I have to leave in 30 minutes. It better be here soon!

Yeah, no worries. A rejection would be bad...but a waitlist is normal (maybe even a good thing).

so i got a letter from columbia thanking me for sending a thank you letter to my interviewer and saying that they would like to "assure me that they will keep me very strongly in mind."

im almost afraid to read too much into it...

Was your interviewer Dean Frantz? He said the exact same thing to me, and I hope they mean it!

Well maybe he did mean it, like I asked in another post, sometimes I wonder if the deans chose who they interview. I heard from some of the students that "No one's never been accepted who didn't meet Dean Frantz by the first day of class." Cryptic, but hopeful.

I got one too. One of the students I met at the interview told me that what Dean Frantz says in his letters has absolutely NO correlation with our standing with the committee. Plus, there are about a decade worth of threads on here saying the same thing. Hate to break your heart, but apparently pretty much everyone gets one.
