Right now it's halftime of the Portugal-Germany match, and Germany is up 2-1. Both sides are creating chances, and the second half should prove to be intense. As for the Netherlands-Russia game, it's this Saturday.

This alone is enough for me to submit early, but it's not nearly as nice as thinking "first come, first served."

I got junk mail from SLU and MCW today too! At first I thought "Wow, med schools are recruiting ME and asking ME to apply to their school!!" But then I cam back to earth... and realized they prob sent an automatic e-mail to thousands of students. But the initial "wow, i'm special" feeling was nice :laugh:

Hey guys! It's Friday!!!!!!!
Hope everyone has a good one planned. Going to our annual Dinner Theatre this evening, should be fun. Then I have shadowing "call" on Sunday and shadowing all day Monday. Wooohoo.
 
Wassup future classmates! How is everybody doing? I have nothing planned for the day, just trying to get amcas done and my resume done. Anybody get any early secondaries?

WHYYYYYY Amcas is obviously going to force me to wait through ANOTHER weekend w/o verifying my application. Come on guys, you've had it for 11 days now!!! Wtf!!!!

Anyway, so obviously no early secondaries for me.

Well, off to more research today..... *sighs*
 
No secondaries for me either. Still waiting on verification. I feel your pain Admit ER and mine has only been in for 2 days! 🙄
 
No secondaries. All my schools do at least some form of primary screening... and I don't think they released early. My state school sends out secondaries the same day (my reasoning for no release yet).

Anyone know if with the amcas letter service our letters need to be uploaded before primaries are released? I keep getting ambiguous emails from them.

I refused to conform, and didn't apply anywhere that absolutely REQUIRED amcas letters, so I stuck with interfolio. Sorry, not sure about the answer there.

I'm pretty sure they do release the applications without the letters...especially since a lot of those schools have automatic secondaries anyway, so you should be getting secondaries from them as soon as you submit/ soon after.

Hey 2013ers!
Are you guys drafting secondary essays already in preparation? I feel like I should probably start but I'm still on a post- personal statement coma and I REALLY don't want to start writing again. I'm kind of getting sick of thinking about/ writing about my life. Thoughts?

p.s.- this is the best thread ever. So glad you guys keep me entertained while I'm at the clinic "working".
 
Speaking of letters, my favorite long-term shadowing doc's LOR was just recieved at AMCAS. 🙂🙂 I'm waiting on one non-science for a couple of schools, but I'll be complete several places with my 3 science and shadowing one. Several of them will take three science instead of 2 sci one non.

I have two non's out right now that should be in by july first.

You poor thing! I am impatient and mine's only been ready for review for 2 days.
 
Just submitted my application to AMCAS today! Transcripts were already received so hopefully will be verified soon. Though looking at this thread, it seems like it's taking some time now. Good luck everyone!

okay, guys... two bits of news.

First of all, I was accepted into Tulane's SMP today :soexcited: (I really am excited about this, its uber competitive) However, I am reserving the dancing bananas for my first med school acceptance 😀

Okay second and really odd news. As of today, at 10:43 (11:43 eastern) I was still "ready for review" on my AMCAS status page.

But I received a Yale secondary invite.

WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

And I quote the email,

Dear Yale Applicant:
INVITATION TO SUBMIT YALE SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION:
Thank you for applying to the Yale University School of Medicine via
AMCAS. You may now submit your online Yale Supplemental Application (if
you have not already done so - see below)...

.. yada yada yada.....

"This e-mail is sent automatically to all AMCAS applicants in the order in which AMCAS transmits data to us."

Huh?!?!? okay:
a) my AMCAS page still says I am under review
b) even if I was verified, AMCAS isn't transmitting data until the 24th right???

what in the world is going on? AMCAS doesn't submit stuff until you're verified, right?

Of course, I find this out at 11pm on a Friday, which means I will have to wait until freaking Monday morning to know the real answer.

any takers on whats up with all this?
 
Hey, so apparently other people had the same experience (you can find more info either on the Yale supplemental thread or the general secondaries thread...I don't remember where I saw it), and it seems to be unique to Yale. Either way, apparently AMCAS sends general info to med schools (I assume the moment you say you're planning on applying there) before sending them your application.
Anyways, as I said apparently it happened to a whole bunch of people, so I wouldn't stress.

lol I was more excited about maybe my app was FINALLY verified but my status page just hadn't updated yet.... apparently not 😡

Sorry...I feel your pain, with the 24th coming up I'm getting antsy that my having rushed to get the stupid primary done in time was for nothing. Aaaah! At least we have this thread to virtually hold hands and sing Kumbaya...

I was wondering, has it really clicked to anybody that in a couple of months, our dreams are going to become true? In a couple of months we can potentially start celebrating one of the biggest changes in our lives. Sorry for being dramatic, but I was thinking about that this morning. Hope everybody is well! Submitted and waiting to be verified!!!!! Here repping the west coast but living on the east coast...in Killadelphia...mobsters, drug dealers, and crackheads oh my!!!!! haha

anyways...I am starting on secondaries now so that turn around time will be nill!!!

My limiting factor: LOR Packet from Penn! Apparently our advisor says that career services is not going to send any packets before Aug. 11th!!!!

That sucks!!!!!

Oh well...we will see what happens!!!

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend! I'm "on call" for the first time today.... working with the OB/GYNs and I have my very own pager until 8 am in the morning. Wooohoo. If my doc goes in, I go in. Pretty exciting. (Someone drag up this post and shove it in my face during 3rd/4th year and early internship/residencies)
Tomorrow, at 8, I am shadowing at the asthma/allergy clinic.

Hopefully these various activities will keep me quite busy until the AMCAS release on Tuesday! I'm sooo excited to start secondaries!!!

😍 to all my fellow 2013ers!
 
All quiet on the call front. I've been looking at apartments in various med school cities... dreaming of where I'll be going in about a year. Hard to believe it is that close!

Got more med school junk mail today: MD/PhD. Wow. 😀

Nice, I got those e-mails from MCW and SLU the other day also, and received another one from UAB's MSTP yesterday. I figure they send them out to everyone, but hey, it was still a little encouraging.
 
so, I am a little confused about how this whole process works. I was verified by AMCAS last Tuesday, does this mean that my school (applying EDP) got my application last week? I also noticed that the AMCAS website says that schools will begin getting applications on the 24th.... do they process them and then sit on them for a while before letting schools see them?

My first one (gastro) was with a doctor I knew back at home. I then began shadowing her partner, whom I've been with off and on for a year.

As far as NICU/OBGYN/Asthma&Allergy/and Eye Surg, I've done a TON of "cold calls" per say. Sent out tons and tons of letters asking docs to let me shadow, and I've gotten a decent amount of response. I plan on doing one day at Asthma & Allergy and sticking around OBGYN/NICU for a while. I really enjoy it. 👍

AMCAS is scheduled to make their initial release of applications to med programs tomorrow, Tuesday, June 24.

I can't believe med schools will be getting the first batch of primaries tomorrow... I'm so nervous. Does anyone know how soon they give out secondaries after receiving the primary? I've heard that some schools (Yale is one of them) have already sent out secondaries, without even receiving the primary. Weird. 😕

I was hoping against hope that my app would be under review this morning, but no such luck. 🙁 Ah well, it was unlikely since it was only ready for review last week. The joys of waiting. 🙂

Okay, so new MCAT scores are back for me. Maybe they weren't what I hoped, but so what? They're decent enough.

It's like headed off to battle with weapons made of steel. Sure they could be made of titanium, but who cares? Give 'em hell anyway.

yo guys. I got into med school this year but Ive deferred my matriculation until next year so class of 2013 here I come!
