I'm leaving to go out of town on Saturday morning and won't be back until Friday night. I probably will not have internet access there, so I won't be able to check my email. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself!

Plus I won't be able to come on here and visit my favorite class of '13-ers! 🙁

Yeah, here's to hoping for interviews before the week's up and we have to wait alllll weekend.

I'm starting to get a little :scared: again. I had a very early app and so got my first couple interview invites in the first wave of interview invites that went out for each school, and was consoling myself with the fact that the others hadn't started interviewing yet. Now, though, most of them have started interviewing and I have heard squat in the last couple weeks... 🙁 I'm getting reallllly ready for one. It's crazy how this process makes your confidence jump up and down so quickly.

Seriously. When I'm feeling down, I usually console myself by remembering that I felt really great the day/hour/minute before and that I'll probably be feeling good again in a little bit.

Sometimes it makes me feel like a crazy person.
 
Haha I'm definitely feeling like a crazy person. The obsessive "omg I wasn't the first person they asked to interview it must mean a rejection!" stuff keeps going through my head- especially since work is really slow now so all I do is look at SDN.

It's also a bit odd cause one of my very top choices (if not my first choice, but who even knows pre-interview) has already invited me, which is absolutely wonderful, so I don't care THAT much about the rest (except for my other "top choices" I suppose)...I'm just ready to have a lovely acceptance in November and then sit back, relax, and see where everyone else ends up 😀
 
It's cool that you guys have early interviews but keep in mind things change pretty quickly in the application season regarding what you think about schools and how you perceive them... I interviewed at my top choice school during this past cycle (a top 10 school in southern california that will otherwise remain nameless, lol) and they instantly went from my top choice that I was really excited about to the least appealing school I had interviewed at, even though, from their perspective at least, the interview went well. I was sort of surprised how things turned out at the end of the cycle in general but am very happy with how things worked out for me.

Yeah...you're completely right. And just because things like that happen, I am going to be reluctant to decline interviews. Who knows?! You may love a school that you thought you would hate!

That's why I image the whole process will be much easier after Oct 15 (assuming you get an acceptance). Then you can start rejecting invites from schools you like less than the one you have an acceptance to.

I guess maybe you could be passing on a surprise perfect fit, but how would you know?

Well, if you love the school that you have an acceptance it, it's probably worth it to start declining interviews at that point. If it's a crappy school, then I guess you'll keep going to interviews.

Yeah, but at least it's a starting point, unless you're first acceptance is to your dead-last ranked school.

The whole process is NOT much easier after Oct 15. I received an early acceptance to the school I am currently attending, which was my second overall interview. 20 invites later, the picture wasn't that much clearer for me. In the end it took a long time to make a decision between schools. I am happy with everything now but it is by no means simple once you get an acceptance at a top choice, and my impressions of schools were drastically different after interviewing than they were prior to visiting. The three top 10 programs I interviewed at were in the bottom third of my list post interview despite being way at the top of my list pre-interview. Rankiings and program prestige really aren't as important as you would think although they certainly aren't insignificant either.

I just wouldn't worry about it. At the end of the cycle, with luck, you'll have choices and can make an informed decision. It's worth the money to make sure that you are somewhere at which you will be happy, because not only will you be there for the next four years, but the name on your diploma will remain for your entire life barring extremely strange circumstances. Trying to speculate what will happen so early in the cycle is just a waste of mental energy. Unless you applied EDP to one school (or regular decision), you shouldn't have any idea where you will end up at this point, and that's the way it should be.
 
Well.. they must just wait for you to panic, and then just before you jump off a cliff, pick you up again. 😱 Got an invite from Case late tonight.

Hope everyone has a wonderful labor day weekend.. Grad, you still hangin' in there? I'm headed home this weekend with my bridesmaids to get fitted for dresses and then having a good labor day weekend at the lake.. should be great 🙂 Wish you all a good one also!

thanks! Yep, I scheduled it for 10/14 because I have fall break that day, so I won't miss any school... plus I don't have to buy another stupid plane ticket because I'll have time to drive, so I'm pretty happy with the whole deal. When is your case interview??

I haven't decided yet! I'm going to try and go to a couple interviews at once...so we'll see!
 
I'm very excited for the extended weekend - Three day ones are always nice! And I should know soon if Labor Day night classes are cancelled (if they are, then Tuesday is sure to follow). Here's hoping for no Gustav, but an extra couple days off 😀
 
bump. Gustav is turning into a nightmare for those of us with post-Katrina stress disorder. He looks menacing this morning.

Thankfully, i'm about ten minutes from my parents - so I can stay home until tomorrow at which point I'll join the extended family for the "hurricane party"

I'm not just hoping it doesn't come here - I'm hoping it weakens before it goes ANYWHERE. Our nightmares of Katrina haven't ended yet and these aren't ones I want anyone else to have!

Goodness yes, BD! Where are they evacuating to?

Half of my family is already here... the others will decide in the A.M. whether they are coming or not. I'm heading to the parents in the morning - I can take the back roads to get there, so the contraflow wont be in my way... it's only about ten minutes 👍.

Being sick in bad weather sucks... but at least there's nothing to do but sleep. I should be able to recover nicely by the time I have to go back to work.
 
The family has arrived... all except for a couple stubborn ones... and we are ready. the first drops of rain are beginning. its gonna be a long few days. Thankfully everyone seems to be doing well....we certainly learned our lessons in katrina!

Hey guys! All is going well here so far....havent even had power flicker. We've definitely been blessed so far. Not out of thw woods yet - winds are still strong and we're getting a tornado warning about every other hour, but the stories from home don't even compare to katrina. minor storm surge... nothing drastic yet. Hopefully about 6 more hrs and we'll be out od the thick of it. The levees are holding with small breaks in N.O.

jus wanted to check in! thanks for all the thoughts n prayers, i'll update this evening.

How did you make out? The news is making it sound like it's not nearly as bad as people had feared.

Wasn't too bad here. Just lots of rain and flash flooding, a few tornadoes. Everyone dodged a bullet with this one for sure. Got an extra day out of the long weekend... that was nice. Back to work tomorrow!

Unfortunately, things aren't about to settle down in the Atlantic/Caribbean/Gulf of Mexico. There's three more named storms out there, and at least one with potential of following Gustav's path. That means this time next week we could be playing the game again... ugh! We already called and reserved our hotel for an extra day in case the weather's bad after my U of Mississippi interview. Crossing my fingers that Ike stays far, far away. I've got too much to do to worry about the rest of the alphabet's hurricanes! 🙄

How goes it 2013!?!?!? I am just chillin before I go to work. I am complete at most of my schools so hopefully I will hear something soon. Congrats to all of the 2013'ers that have already received interview invites. God bless yall and I hope you all get in!!! Here's to 2013!!! The best class ever. We are going to smash the other classes!!! :laugh:
 
Well - back to "normalcy". Work began bright and early at eight a.m., still trying to wake up - Gustav messed up my sleep schedule! I had the hardest time going to sleep last night, and again waking up this morning. Other than that, everything is going well here. Doing some homework for grad school, and going to start prepping for my interview in the next day or two! Getting excited!!

Yay! Good luck on the interview. I'm halfway done with mine (1 of 2). It's such a relief when you walk out of the building when you're done!

This is the only school I'll be re-interviewing at, and I'm really excited to show them the progress I've made in the last year. I feel much more confident this go around and I feel like it'll show 🙂🙂
 
Ike, GO AWAY. The track keeps getting closer and closer to us. Seems like it would be right around interview time too. Grrrrr. If nothing else, maybe he will slow down a bit so that I can interview and get home before the evacuations start.

Hey everyone! I'm back from my trip to the beach! It was beautiful there and very relaxing. But I'm glad to be back. I've got an exciting couple of months ahead of me!

And while I was on my trip, I got another interview invite!!!!!! NYMC on 10/22. I'm super excited! That means I've gotten one invite a month for the past four weeks - I feel blessed!

So, what have I missed this week? Any drama? Who got interviews?!?!
