Not long! Just got my lovely green suitcase today! It matches my eyes 😀, or at least Buttercup's eyes.

Maybe now med schools will see your leadership experience moderating forums, and you should start to get invites soon!

Oh by the way, do you know how NYC is around 12/15. I know nothing about the city, except for the fact that they have amazing med schools there.
 
Oh and Cornell made fun of me for asking if I could have an interview during the same time... It was quite sad...

Haha one can only hope. This dry spell is getting a bit ridiculous.


As for the city, it gets COLD around then, and windy. It can rain, it can snow. Bring a good coat, a scarf, gloves, maybe earmuffs if you get particularly cold, and wear shoes that can handle rain and that won't slip on ice just in case. Although they usually clear up the streets pretty quickly cause, well, otherwise it'd be a total disaster.

Make sure to go to Rockefeller center and see the big tree, maybe go ice-skating or watch the ice skaters, and stop by FAO Schwartz and look at all the toys and the window stuff. It's awesome.

Would a car be required, cuz because there is no way in h*** I would drive in NY... and I will be kind of low on money because of interviews at that time...and the fact that I do not work, and do not get my scholly money until january...

Well, Manhattan as a rule is quite expensive, especially if you don't know it super-well and you stick to the "well-beaten" touristy paths. So you might want to email med students from the school you're staying at (Sinai, I believe) and ask them about places to eat/ things to do around there. I'm assuming med students are even more po' than you are, so they should have good suggestions for cheap stuff in the area.

As for the car, it is absolutely not required and in fact I'd strongly recommend you don't bring one. Manhattan is a nightmare to drive in normally, and during that time it's even worse. And if you're not from there, chances are, you just have no idea how to drive there. I strongly suggest you look at the NY subway system map online and figure out where you're going to go and stuff. There are also buses and cabs just in case, but most places are totally reachable by subway. They tend to be a bit smelly and cramped, but oh well, that's part of the experience 😀

And again, Sinai students will probably be able to give you much better tips than I ever could.

YAY! Congrats! Have you set a date yet?

that sounds very marriage-ish. Humorous, my mother thinks of this process sort of as a marriage or pregnancy. Makes sense I suppose.. we are "marrying" a profession. And from Oct 15 to the start of med school is about 9 months... haha.
 
also like a pregnancy at the end of the 9 month wait the result will cost you several hundred thousand dollars

I've set a date in Nov. Earliest one available, although honestly I'm glad it's a ways off so that I can request vacay. My job? Not so pleased with all this time away from the office.

My drought was from 9/5, so I definitely feel your pain. Keep the faith, keep your chins up, it'll come. 🙂
 
Although I'm very happy with the invites I've received and would be satisfied if I didn't receive anymore throughout the cycle... this is the first week out of the past 8 weeks that I haven't received an invite. I'm crossing my fingers for today!
 
I'll take weightloss, unfortunately it's not quite working out that way. Although, exercise is starting to come back into the picture now that secondaries aren't consuming every waking non-work brain-cell.

Yeah, my top choices also have awesome gyms, but I really need to get on the wagon NOW cuz I need the stress relief!

What do y'all do for exercise? I'm a runner, some triathlons, weightlifting. I used to play a lot of soccer, but have ankle problems now.

I plan on not working out at all...then the woman I date and chase wont feel so bad about being fatter than me.

In fact thats the only reason why im going to medical school...so i can study all the time and not have to work out.

Honestly, I'm not a very good exerciser. The (mainly exercise induced) asthma tends to slow me down. I like the elliptical, running when I can handle it, and yoga/pilates.

As a kid, I was a gymnast.... i still 😍 gymnastics, and have looked into adult tumbling classes in some of the areas I may be moving to.

And I've always been an avid bowler... League bowled for a long time.
(Again, not much exercise, but the lungs can't handle too much heavy duty)

Well having to dance for 11 shows a weekend has really slimmed me out even more - I've lost 7-8 pounds in the past month and I haven't changed my eating habits at all. I'll probably keep exercising after the run of the show by jogging around my house - we live in the country and it's beautiful in the fall! 😍

I used to run a whole lot, but not quite as much now. I run a certain amount of time (30 min or 1 hr) and not a certain distance. As I get in better shape I cover more ground, but if I'm having a bad day and have to walk some it doesn't throw off my day's schedule.

I've started throwing in some weight lifting too just because I've always been pretty skinny. It actually started showing a little after 2 weeks and has gotten better from there. I don't feel quite a scrawny as I used to!

Be careful--muscle is addicting! When I got started it controlled my life for about 4 years! (Then I got sick one day, and never started again... that was 3 years ago :laugh: )

Weight-lifting is so key for injury prevention in runners, both male and female. I just like doing it too though. 🙂 I'm still rehabbing from some major ankle surgery, so my running is def not up to par, but you're right about taking it one day at a time.
 
Our international recruiter is celebrating his birthday today, and in proper international fashion, our friendly neighborhood betty crocker (another of our recruiters who's a fantastic cook) baked a German Chocolate Cake... MMM.

Yummy.
 
Haha so like, I have 2 meetings on the 15th. One runs from 9:30 to like 11:30 or noon. The other is form like 3 till 5.

Something tells me I may have to leave one of those meetings for a while, at least hopefully I will :]
