Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The sleep clinic where I work has just moved to a brand new facility which also houses derm, plastics, ortho, and radiology. Sleep looks like a 5-star hotel, ortho has a VIP area for pro athletes, but derm really takes the cake. I stopped by their clinic and it's made to look like a spa, so it has something like a "serenity pond", and a harpist (yes, an actual professional harpist) in the waiting room. That's it. I'm going into derm.

did you watch the grey's anatomy when christina fell in love with the derms, they got massages and water with fresh raspberries in it hehe.
Ugh, frustrated. Work has been hell today, but only 30 minutes to go.
i'm sorry, at least its nearly over! my midterm was really bad today too, so let's hope that i at least graduate

Hehe that was the first thing I thought when I saw that lady. I wanted to put away my staff badge, sit in the waiting room and just relax and pretend to be a patient!

haha you totally should have LET! i'm so tuned out of class. surfing the net ... so tired

Haha I'm going to need to. The funniest part is that today was move-in day for all the clinics, and of course as it usually happens with new buildings, something tripped the fire alarm. So, we all had to go outside and wait for the fire trucks etc. Not only did the concierges (oh yes, we have concierges) bring everyone warmed blankets and hot tea while we waited, but the harpist followed and played in the lobby so as to welcome us back in when we could re-enter the building. This place is just outrageous.

It's probably better than you thought - or at least enough for a passing grade. Best of :luck: tho - I hate when I feel like I've bombed a test.

yeah the things is the prof is really bad and it's a grad level class, and everyone else felt really bad about it too. it was so ridiculous

Thank you for making me feel even worse for getting rejected from Stanford🙁

Hahaha I know, it sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?! I thought the lady with the warm blankets was kidding when she offered me one. And yet, it's all true.

Oh and funky, I doubt students train here. Trust me, Stanford hospital is AWFUL. They're slowly rebuilding everything, which is why this new outpatient center exists, but the Hospital remodeling is 10-15 years away still.

wait, i didn't know you were at stanford let

Ouch. That's a LONG time.

Most everyone here will be attendings before that happens...

Well, if I get a 337 or higher on the boards, then I can apply to Stanford's Plastics, Derm or Ortho and hope that I get placed in the outpatient😛

funky, just walk right in wearing a white coat. if someone asks says, don't you know, i'm doctor ... jeez

I am grateful for choosing a less competitive specialty - I want high high board scores, but they aren't necessary for Peds 🙂

wait ortho needs high board scores? i didn't know ortho was popular

Yup I just work here.

Well, I'd also like to point out that the Children's Hospital should be re-done by 2015ish I think...so maybe fellowship for you? 😀

Precisely!

Ah, thanks for thinking of me, LET... but I'm planning on staying closer to home. My dream fellowship (if I can't stay at Batson where I'll be doing residency) would be Vandy or UAB. They both have a FAB neonatal program.

I am still not sure where I want to do my residency/ fellowship.....

Oh yeah and

:hardy: 😀POST # 3500!😀:hardy:

Now time for research and possibly bugging the admissions office at UCLA...

yeah i don't know either, but i am really gulliable and feel for the sarcasm once again. what is the boards out of? 337 is like a weird number

It's out of 300.

Ortho is perhaps even harder to get into than derm, neurosurg and plastics, or at the very least, just as hard.

Ortho is reasonably difficult to match into. The competitiveness part is part self-selection and part overblown, IMO in terms of the fact that most people who want to match into something are able to do so, whether or not they have any choice in where they end up. The match rates at my school into most residencies except derm were ~90% and derm was still higher than 75% IIRC, and a lot of that is people being unrealistic about where they stand.

congrats funky. wow! harder than derm, i thought that was the hardest one.

I guess it depends what you mean by hard. You need good grades and board scores to get into most of the competitive specialties, but most people from good schools who want to go into something can. That's not to say that you can mess around and not study and get into whatever you want.

On another note, I managed to survive our first brutal day of exams!

I just meant comparatively, Ortho is among the hardest ones to match into and needs very good board scores.

You should celebrate tomorrow at buffalo wild wings 🙂 I love that place, the naked chicken tenders with blazin' sauce are amazing.

Did you have anatomy today or is that tmr?

that was today! We just have PDS/physio tomorrow which shouldn't be that bad.

I forgot to mention throws, those are arguably worse.

Any time Jean Claude Van Damme is your lead, the movie probably sucks. At least the new one has Kristin Kreuk in it 😀

As much as I 😍 Chun-li (there are photos), I expect that to suck.🙁

Congrats on getting TOP Scarlett... I know you have been waiting a long time to get it.👍

Oh and blues, I know it is out of 300.... The reason I said 337 was because it is next to impossible to match in Derm/ Plastics/ or Ortho especially at Stanford, which is why I was using hyperbole to convey my argument.

- Ah, funky, good luck with your ATM card. Sounds like it got resolved pretty quickly, but still, that's no fun 🙁

- We have a Sonic in Florida but I don't ever eat there.

😍 I love being a part of this thread. It's nice to know how the future doctors of America think (since I know comparatively few IRL).

OK, gym time!

Good luck, everyone! We're nearly, nearly there.

My plan is also to fill out the FAFSA form this weekend. 🙂xf::xf::xf:)

So much to do.

If its anything like my roommate not answering calls it will be perfectly fine at the expense of pissing off the rest of the roommates.
