Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just to give you all a little break from the chaos outside, maybe you can help me with something!

So my school offers a joint MD/MA Bioethics degree that can be completed within 4 years. I have a tendency (as you may have noticed) to overschedule myself and go crazy.

My question:

Do I go for the MA or take up fencing?

I feel like we've gotten more than enough bioethics as it is, but if it's what you're interested in...

I would do the MA degree, personally, but (1) ethics interests me (2) I'm lazy as heck and generally physically inactive and (3) it'd probably help more for future employment than the fencing.

But ya know, everyone's different and you probably see things from a totally different perspective.

The reason I'm asking is that ethics interests _me_ and I'm also interested in fencing. It's more of a question of "should I go nuts academically" or "should I live a little"

I was pondering those dual degree programs when I was deciding on CCLCM, I think it would be a bit difficult to fit into your four years assuming you also still have to do that four month research thesis deal. I guess Case starts early enough that maybe you have time to accomplish all of that.

👍 but that's just me

Do you really like ethics? There's a few subjects that I'd be willing to work crazy hard to cram in some coursework in, ethics isn't one of them though. But if you have a strong interest in ethics it might be fun.

Otherwise fencing is cool.

Everytime someone starts a thread with PCP in the title I total think something else and then have to do a double take.

Haha, nice.

As to the MAvFencing argument, I still can't make up my mind, so I guess I'll wait until July!

I'm finally done with class and test. Now for work and relaxation.

Ibiza😍

Yeah... ibiza is awesome. I had a lot of fun there although the details are completely inappropriate for this forum.

Privilege and Space were my favorite, there are so many good ones though!
There are so many good clubs and DJs there along with great beaches. There are not many places that are as great as Ibiza

also a lot of friendly european girls there... if only ppl there didn't smoke so much 🙁

Time to watch the president talk about the economy. I really am excited that this recession may be over by 2010.
May be things will improve before the US consists of Hoovervilles

ugh, I have this friend I am SO worried about emotionally right now. she's so depressed and stressed... its scary. of course her 3 closest friends have master's degrees or almost in psychology so we are possibly overly concerned.... but... makes my stomach hurt. So sad to see someone that's normally so happy be so so sad.

So my grandma heard about this local scholarship for med school. Doing the paperwork tomorrow and hopefully getting together the other stuff they need this week. Everything is due March 15 and I will know if I get it by April 15.

:xf:

Obama seems to be running on a loop, I'm done watching.

<insert problem> has gone on too long, we need reform. Which is why we are making this historic invesment.

My personal favorite: calling the US the country that invented the automobile😕. Well, I suppose most Americans probably don't know better.

sweet i told my cousin to look into it

Work hard enough, and it will! Are they receptive to letters/phone calls?😀

I know for sure yes about letters...not so sure about phone calls. But I am going to go ahead and contact a few of the students I met while touring the campuses.

I don't see how that is bad. Speech makers like to do that to put emphasis on things. Plus its not hard to forget nowadays when our automakers are getting wtfpwned by toyota and other foreign autmakers.

Americans invented mass produced automobiles, right?

Or maybe we have officially annexed Germany.
lol I'm pretty sure that is what he meant since he was referring to the automakers (aka assembly lines)

Jindal is going to be big in the GOP but it's going to be difficult for the GOP to make themselves relevant in the economic crisis, calling for lower taxes isn't gonna get it done haha

I'm sure that will also depend heavily on how well Obama's plan works out.

I guess, I think it's going to be difficult to make an argument that economic stimulus can be achieved by any of the normal GOP orthodoxy, and coming out very strongly against stimulus is going to make it difficult (not to mention antithetical to their principles) to make any stimulus proposal. It's possible the vagaries of the business cycle will work in their favor though, (a la Reagan 1980 and Clinton 1992)

Yeah they're kind of backing themselves into a corner that way. I like that they're going after the waste in the stimulus, but an idea other than tax-cut from the GOP would be nice.

Have you guys had apple pears before... usually they are good, but the ones that I got taste like waterlogged pears...🙁

That is what I was referring to. A lot of people are short-sighted when it comes to politics, so though we all realize that GOP tactics are probably not the best for our economy during this crisis, people will forget that by the time the election comes if things start to get better or never get better.

True, especially since the two parties are interdependent. I hope that GOP comes up with new idea before the democrats get lazy and settle for what they have, otherwise we will find ourselves in another rut years from now. Both parties need to realize that there you can have too much of a good thing.

I think they are pretty good considering that I don't like pears.
