Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It'd be awesome until the night before the boards... Haha
idk, it doesn't really seem like they have to worry too much about matching, and look at it this way--with almost nothing required, that's a lot of free time to study for the boards. If I get in a happy dance will definitely be in order. 😎

♪"The sound of her laughter will sing in your dreams."♪ 🙂

Sounds like an enchanting sort of evening to me! Have they narrowed it down to the good vocalists yet? I generally avoid watching the earlier bits because I hate how they just make fun of people...

They're still in the Top 36 (there's a mix of good and bad). This week is the second group of 12, then next week is the third group of 12, then the week after that is the wildcard round, and THEN they get to the Top 12 (mostly good singers).

Chad and OMBD:

do you find that you have trouble watching singers sing without automatically analyzing their technique? I always find myself listening to a singer and then watching her live and being like "wow, she NEEDS to relax her neck...and did she have dairy today? Oh yeah and that last note was totally flat." I annoy myself.

That's my favorite part of the show! Seriously, I LOVE to pick the contestants apart. It's funny because my friend Rachael who is completely tone deaf and has no experience singing often comments about how good some people are and I have to hold my tongue from telling her how they're really terrible singers technically.

Prime example: Danny Gokey. Everyone is praising him and his "smoky" voice. All I can hear is years of vocal damage and poor phrasing due to improper breathing and neck tension. 🙄

I got to eat fudge today, couldn't refuse 🙁

The presenter presented on how to make fudge (mol bio senior seminar practice presentation on non-science topic), and brought us ALOT of fudge so I had to eat a piece, ending my 10.5 months streak of no candies/cookies/chocolate etc...

Oh, and she's very cute, so maybe that influenced a little bit too

Chad, you got waht, 6 days left? I am definitely praying for you. I am always checking the Columbia thread for you. Hey, maybe we will both get into our dream schools at the same time!

How is everybody else doing?

Well that's as much because of selection than what they gain/don't gain from the curriculum. I know they had a problem with step 1 pass rate previously, not sure if that's the case now. I like the idea though, if it works in practice.

I still have 3 hrs left at work. I am bored out my mind.

🙂 Thanks bud! I'm definitely keeping you uplifted in my prayers too. I can't believe you haven't heard back yet!

I've got anywhere from 3 to 6 days left (hopefully!) Decisions will probably be sent on Friday so most likely I'll hear something Monday (MAYBE Saturday if they get picked up by USPS first thing on Friday morning but I highly doubt that's going to happen.

😕 You got any kind of source for that? Google's turning up nothing, and given how low the passing score is, I'm finding that hard to believe.

Hey drizzt, what school do you go to? If you don't mind me asking. How are you liking it thus far?

I go to UW (wisconsin) and I like it a lot so far, it's a lot of work but we have a great class and awesome facilities.

I heard on here it was the lowest of all non-HBCU med schools a few years ago but I can't find the source through searching now. Keep in mind that usually it's pretty easy to find pass rates for USMLE for those schools that pass 98-100% of their students.

It's not that surprising, as it seems that schools that teach to the boards tend to do better. I'll be interested to see how UW's board scores improve now that ALL of our exams have the exact same format and administration as the USMLE and our classes are very board focused.

I could believe that Yale's AVERAGE board scores were lower than their peers, but their PASS RATE being low? A bunch of amazing testtakers ctually failing??? I would have to see data or a source to believe that.

Someone asked how the philosophy at Yale affected the class's USMLE scores during my interview. I am certain they said their average was higher than the national average, but don't remember the exact numbers. If I recall correctly, their average is in high 220s.

This radiology assignment sucks...

considering I want to go into rad you'd think I'd be better at it... guess I need more practice haha

AHHHHH amor de mi vida! How are you? 😍😍😍

haha you made me laugh out loud! I just got home from work. I'm watching these creepy singers on American Idol.

You'll have to tell me when it gets good again.
IDK I haven't been watching much but it seems they chose people based more on their story & looks than their singing abilities. They aren't all horrible but their are definitely some people who shouldn't have been there to begin with.

I'm excited about it... I have it DVRed and I'll be watching it with my Dad soon.

Pretty much - they look for people who will make "good TV" rather than people who can sing. If the people with good looks and interesting stories can sing, then that's great, but the producers do NOT put a priority on singing ability (which is a shame for a SINGING competition).

That's why they didn't pick me! 😀

automatic losers if they didn't pick you 👎 Did you know that American Idol experience at Disney gives you a "golden ticket" to go to the front of the line at the audition of your choice? I was pissed because the person that actually could sing didn't win during my show 🙁

As far as the picking story over singing, it happens every year. A few years back my friend's sister was the 1st person to get the boot once it went to the audience because she really didn't sing well but she was gorgeous... She's an actress now.

Isn't that completely backwards? I want to watch for the music. Sing well, and I'll want to know more about you.😳

my cousin used to go to the taping of american idol and so you think you can dance a lot... the shows are taped live kinda but the audience isn't, basically they have a dress rehearsal of sorts and they tell the audience to give different reactions and tape it all... lame.

Yeah that's really cool... I would love to go to Disney and do it sometime! Was it a lot of fun?

Who is your friend's sister?!?! (Send me a PM if you want...)
