Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
May be Chad and Pianola will pop in here soon to let us know that they got a package from Columbia.

Nooo news....

Maybe I'll have started med school already when Columbia lets me know 😛. Cornell's taking its sweet time, too.

Yay for a double rejection!

if you guys had no other options, would you ever go to med school in the Caribbean?

hell yea. I would study while under an umbrella at a white water beach, and finish up my nights by sipping on margaritas

nah probably DO. Although it must be nice to live there for a few years.

A lot of my old classmates report back that although weather is great, lack of variety of food gets annoying.

That's what I'm saying... say at St. George's, you would be there for two years, then two years in NY... I don't think that would be that bad!

definitely manageable

Has anyone here ever gone to a movie theater by themselves?
totally.. but thats because i sometimes want to see movies that none of my friends do.. like the sequel to Pitch Black lol

hehe, it's definitely more lonely being at a movie theater alone, at least IMO. I always thought it was kinda cool to eat at nice restaurants by myself, partially because I did it a lot as a consultant and could expense it 😀
im more comfortable with going to movies alone, however I definitely have done to places to eat by myself, but not for dinner.... lol

I went to the Shadow-A-Student program, does that count?

I'm almost positive I'm living on campus, at least for first-year.

Ain't that the truth 😛

what was shadowing a student like? tell all.
also a friend of mine is also living on campus. i believe she's signed up for a 2 person studio 🙂

The Midwest is cool, abt 1/2 the price of CA for rent with free heat, water, and trash.
... thankfully water is included in apts and heat usually is i believe.. haha but the rent is through the roof..
what is cali rent like?

expensive... 1 bdrms are $1500-2000 depending on the area, + $50 for water/trash and $50-80 for heat.

I have a lot of loose ends I need to tie up today. i think I'm going to withdraw from a bunch of schools that I'm not really considering. "I hate this part right here" 🤣

oo which?

Nah, I only interviewed at two schools and I could definitely tell the difference between UVA and WashU.

Funny interview story! So I'm at <pick one and insert here> with an MSinsertnumberhere interviewer and he says "So, I see in your essay you thought you might have trouble delivering bad news. Let's roleplay. I have cancer. Tell me."

So I think "halp!halp!halp!halp!" and say "So, have a seat." To which he responds "I'm sitting."
"halp!halp!halp!halp!"
"I'm going to discuss some treatment alternatives with you, so I think it might be best if you a family member or a friend to sit with you..."
"I don't have any family."
"halp!halp!halp!halp....err... uh, well then... uh...I have some bad news for you: you have cancer...and...uh--"
"What kind of cancer?"
"Uh, what kind of cancer do you have again?"
"Oh, I thought you knew something about cancer."

:boom:
CRUEL!!!! and asking you what kind of cancer when he didnt initially specify? F*** That lol

"so what do you like about our school?"

"oh I loved everything... ann arbor seems like such a cool city, and..."

interviewer interrupts, "you're not in ann arbor, you're in pittsburgh."

awkward pause...

"oh that's what i meant..."

...

REJECTED
HAHAHA....
i called Center City in Philly 'City Center' during my interview lol.. city center is a theater in manhattan. thankfully my interviewer corrected me and laughed it off. although watch i get that rejection LOL

Y'all are really wonderful support, by the way.

Thank you.

of course sweetie!! We are all here for you.
you guys were here for me in even the smallest things and I am sooo thankful for you guys and for having found SDN. i totally tell other premeds about it. 🙂

You make fun of the city, we make fun of you.

well i didnt do it intentionally....:scared:

but in all seriousness, i really liked philly.. i had never been there before upenn and it felt like a really nice place.

yay anotherface!!! i hope everyone gets accepted tooo. in other news it's not mono, but she doesn't know what's wrong with me. she told me to self diagnose again haha

what else could it be??

Thankfully this school was not really top of my list. Maybe I should just withdraw.

Edit: Wait no this is crazy talk! I will send in my forms and at least get my packages. I will not be defeated by my laziness!!!

haha i know that feeling... and ive had the exact same conversation with myself over other things lol

also filled out the last scholarship form, I think. Really didn't think I would qualify but somehow my home county is considered disadvantaged.
which scholarship is this? the one your grandma found?

Hey guys, it's a beautiful day in NYC (60 degrees!) so I'm going for an outdoor run for the first time in months! 🙂

i know! its lovely! i went out for a walk with my mom since im home for the weekend.. but it cooled down quickly enough
🙁

Nada. This is something thru the school called Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students. apparently my home county is a physician shortage area since katrina. That's great.. any dime in scholarship is one that doesn't have to be repaid. 👍

I used to run 3-4 miles three times a week, but now I can barely run 1 mile without feeling I am going to cough up a lung. Its weird because I have doing cardio (while doing MMA), yet my conditioning is horrendous. That's why I have decided to start running within the next couple of weeks.
hmm.. i wonder if thats why i cant run as well? i do ballet 4x a week usually and maybe another bit at the gym or something, but running is so hard for me!! i once ran a mile in gym class in high school because we had too. is all really about practice?
