I've been doing a lot of research and talking to people who grew up outside the US, and it seems that it is not necessarily true. It really depends on your demeanor. That is, you will be able to help out, no matter what specialty you decide on so long as you really care to help out.you can contribute to the fight against health disparities from any specialty. It's easier to do & more apparent from primary care, but I've met people from all kinds of specialties that have dedicated their lives to working with the underserved.
