Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ohh I'm filing as independent. But every school gave me a lot of need based scholarships/grants because of my siblings. So it still matters (even though I'm indpendent)

WHOAWHOAWHOA you sure about that?

Yah, I mean technically were are independent, but don't they have a section that asks if you have siblings in college...and I thought grad school was included... maybe that is why I barely got any aid from my schools...

Time to go back to the apartment... I have way too much homework to do🙁

Did some calculations for MCW. I don't have my FinAid packet from them until june, but I just assume worst case scenario, not even a single $ in loans or scholarships.

after 9 yrs, assuming I don't pay back during residency, I'll be ~320K in debt.

Realistically, I'll probably pay back around $15k per year during residency.

But thankfully my parents and extended family are going to help me out and loan me money at a lower interest.

I simply calucluated it as...

(((((20,000*1.068)
+20,000)*1.068
+20,000)*1.068
+20,000)*1.068)

I forgot the fourth year of interest...

wouldn't you have to take the first 20k to the 4th power, second 20k to the 3rd power, etc?

* Number of Student's Household Members in College (Help ID: 2q)
Enter the number of people in the student's household who will be attending college, graduate/professional, or other school beyond the high school level between July 1, 2009, and June 30, 2010. Always include the student applicant. Include the spouse and other household members only if they will be enrolled at least half time for at least one term.

Berken, who have you been talking to?

Sorry pianola 🙁

Just take some time to think about it, I guess.

Thanks. 😳

doubling isn't an overestimate for non-subsidized loans... it's actually usually between 2x to 3x I was told.

😱...should I have expected any less? *sigh*

Drizz would say let it go

Yes he would. Guess what? His entire COA is less than the COA of my first year of medical school.

and aren't student loans debt that dies with you?

(as in, our poor unborn children will ultimately not be responsible if something happens to us)

Yeah, I guess. But I want to give my unborn children a fighting shot.

Nice.

Baylor perhaps thinks that my parents should take out a mortgage on our house?

Or that my 75 year old father should get a job?

Or that my mother should go back into the work force after 24 years?

Seriously :wtf:

Toppppppppp

WELL FINE:

I'll TAKE BOTTOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm the BEST at getting BOTTOM

Wow...that's harsh.

also, we don't have to pay tax if we are paying back loans? interesting.... Maybe I should just loan from the gov instead of my family members if that's the case.

For real. Grrr.

Sorry 🙁 Somehow knowing we're all gonna be in this mess truly helps none.

Have you talked to financial aid and explained your situation?

I'm still waiting on one last finaid package but after I get it (which will be shortly), I will call them. I don't know that they take into account my parents' ages.

Wow...that's harsh.

🙁 It's just a dramatic way of looking at it.

Huh...and it didn't help you?! My state school gave me ~80% off tuition and my parents make a good amount of money (middle class)...I always thought it was thanks to my siblings

I don't get my aid packet til' June, or until I get unwaitlited somewhere else.

Congrats 80% off is awesome!

I hope siblings get accounted for, it'd be nice.... I'm still just expecting financial ruin for the next ten plus years though.

Damn, it's tough to keep up tonight. Slow down!

Oh yea, yesterday I spoke to a wisconsin adcom and apparently I was rated excellent in all categories but they felt I may not be successful academically. I actually politely nodded, didn't know what to say lol.

If you rated excellent in all categories, why did they feel you wouldn't be successful? 😕

I know I'm behind, but shave knicks friggen suck. I used to always take hunks out of my face 🙁. The worst part shaving is, I still haven't found something that gets close enough in all the spots.

Are you still waiting to hear from the previously mentioned FL school?

I'm still waiting to hear from UF. Which was my other top choice. But heck I might take my last choice school for an extra $20K per year.

Don't wait. You mean business. If you can, fly to Houston and meet with them in person. (And explore the city a bit more)

Well flying to Houston is out of the question. I'm going to wait and see if I get any aid from UF first. I have a good reason for doing so...

My GPA is below avg, he said if I apply again I will probably have different people grading my academics and might have a better shot.

I'm definitely not applying again though, even with two papers coming out, I don't want to wait, and I don't want to take this risk. I liked MCW more than UW-Madison but the CoA is like $15k more per year.
