I got 1 ethics question at 1 school and 50% of another school's interview was ethics questions. (out of 9).

All of the schools asked me about health policy except maybe USF (can't remember that one).

A lot of schools have latin honors for students above a certain GPA. It sometimes, but not always, requires some sort of thesis/project as well. Doesn't at my school, but all of the departmental honors programs do. Stupid Chemistry/Biology haven't put together departmental honors yet, so I'm only graduating with double honors instead of triple 😉 (My second being an honors program I got into as an incoming Freshman).

They're called latin honors because of the names

cum laude (with honor)
magna cum laude (with great honor)
summa cum laude (with greatest honor)

At my school, cum laude is 3.5-3.7, magna cum laude is 3.7-3.9, and summa cum laude is 3.9-4.0. Other schools have ranges that can be lower or higher.

lol, really? didn't even know...that IS might odd. Kind of like in statistics class when you come across a random number line with four zero's in a row....wtf mate?
 
At UT you could get the latin honors by semesters, but you graduated with honors, high honors, or highest honors. And those were capped at certain GPAs (in liberal arts it was 3.73, 3.86, 3.95) and percentages (20%, 10%, 4%) of the class, depending on each college. So I got a couple of latin honors semesters throughout my career, but missed the graduating with honors GPA by something like .05? Boo. 👎

A friend of mine missed magna by like .005. Like, she had a 3.695, and the requirement is 3.700

Man, you know I had to clarify again (for the 5th time) about something that continues to be taken out of context. Geez people are irrational and bunch of freakin' emos on this forum. It's like they seek cathartic release on this forum. One of the guys apparently reads my sentences word for word and tries to point out that my english is unclear. This dude fails to understand that most people on this forum could care less about complete sentences as long as there thoughts get across.

Btw, it's not something to be proud of to be really good at an incoherent language like English. chubby is arrogant and an inflammer. he refuses to let it go. Should I friend him on SDN and write lullabys for him so that he can be peaceful with me?!!!
 
I missed magna only because I had a c.

one c. in a class worth .7 credit freshman year.

my gpa was high enough but part of the requirement was no grade below a b. :sad:

If you really are a doctor for the well-being of people then you don't need some crazy institution run by old folks telling you that you are something.

Your impact on the community through clinical work, and research work holds like way way more bearing on your success than some institution.

I want to practice in a place where I want be obligated to kill patients in the hospital. Or make patients sicker than they were before they entered those glass doors.

But, I know ill be in the minority of people who will think this way even though it's logically and really the right way.

it's like this. people are driving up a really tall mountain. People are very impatient and so they refuse to read the rules of the roadway and continue to drive like a maniac. Most fall down the mountain and once they reach sea level there are hospitals all over the place to carry these people under their wings. They want people to come to their lovely hospitals regularly, take drugs for the rest of their lives (that is not a freakin' cure), most of the times we are clueless on the etiologies of so many diseases and we give drugs which interact with certain receptors to mask the symptoms. most patients end up dying instead of getting better.

The goal of medicine should be to have the maximum amount of people being healthy as possible. Through diet, changing lifestyle, habits, etc. Instead doctors focus on drugs, all kinds of necessary scans (this coming from a very intelligent pathologist i know), etc. etc. We should have less hospitals and more people living and going about their business in a healthy manner. Not sprout comfy death wards, oncology rooms, in gigantic money-driven health care system. We need to stop artificially manipulating our bodies with FDA approved toxic chemicals that are in our food, water and let nature do its job. The rates of cancers are getting worst. And they should get worst. They will continue to do so.
It's always better to not say anything than say something stupid that another person will hate you for the rest of their lives. Same thing with prevention.
