crap. crap. crap. crap.

My first acceptance has sent me an e-mail saying to "make a decision NOW"

crap. crap. crap.

yikes...I have 5 more days to make a final decision, but I am pretty sure where I am going now after recent developments 😀

good luck nola

uhhhhhhhh...freakin stuffed...glad I don't eat like that anymore.

I feel kind of sick...damn good food, but not I don't feel so hot

must hit gym must hit gym...even though this is my day off and I have a crap load of things to do before I head to beantown tomorrow

Question for you Rice...when you are at the gym and see some guys lifting weights that are way too heavy for them with ugly form (ie. bouncing the bar off their chest, swinging their entire body on curls)...do you ever get the urge to correct them? I just wanna say "errr you arent doing yourself any good, you arent impressing anyone, and you will probably eventaully get hurt"...but i think that would be too condescending.

Where would this be, Rice?

lmao...idk its just stupid to me. Spend all that time in the gym trying to impress people and really doing themselves minimal good.

Yeah I and pretty much all the other regulars just stare...at least that is how it works out at Penn. I definitely want to say something, but I do not want to come across as being a jerk.

Usually the collective staring does the trick

Lol..i should try that.

UCSD vs Stanford

got off every other waitlist except Pitt's after I heard from UCSD.

Stanford has given me ample time to make a decision. And now that I can see how much I would be saving I am inclined to say helllllllllllllllllllllo San Diego.

If I do go to UCSD then me and Berk will be classmates 😀

Well if that's the case then, free is freeeeeee and maybe you can make her get a facebook 🙂

Plus, UCSD vs Stanford is comparing apples to apples IMO.

she said she would get one in the summer! I believe the time has come.

Stanford was nice enough to offer me some $$$ as well...but even after that I would still be looking at near almost $300k in debt (if I stayed up there all year long)

plus the idea of surfing again is making me all geeky...😀

this. if people are committed to actually improving size, strength, or shape, they will had to do the right thing eventually. i find that almost everyone young or new at the gym tries to gauge their strength by lifting heavy. improper form does irk me a bit, but i just hope they don't blow their backs out doing curls or shoulder lifts.

yeah I cringe.

you work out at Pottruck, right?

no worries I'm not in Killadelphia anymore

nah, not at the moment. I am at home in jersey and work out at the local gym (where McNabb apparently works out time to time). I might hit up the penn gym again. its nice and its free (for me)!

one thing about going to the local fitness centers with an older average age is that they are usually less crowded. however, they love to have random long discussions with random people though.

one thing i really find funny is gym owners/sales people that wear tight shirts for no reason and just stand by women as they run on the treadmill.

I vote UCSD...but like pianola..the choice is yours 😉

yeah...I've talked to residency directors about both schools and they have had nothing but good things to say. When I asked about perceived diff in prestige one director laughed at me......and the other said that should be the least of my worries.

I liked both schools equally, but for diff reasons...and b/c neither one sticks out in my mind (the way UCSF did 🙁:cry🙂 as a clear front runner I am inclined to choose the cheaper option...aka UCSD

LMAO..cause i know exactly what you are talking about, well maybe not the gym owners, but definitely employees.

"Excuse me ladies...which way to the weight room?"

i liked san diego better than palo alto or whever stanford is (From the one time that I went to cali)

have you surfed in SD before? im actually gettin ready to go out in a lil bit 😀

nope never have.

The farthest south I have ever surfed was huntington beach..farthest north...malibu

I hear there are a couple of nice spots down there. But in most areas down there don't the waves break too close to the shore?

Good deal then!

haha yeah...greater percentage of elderly where I work out right now...fewer people to spot me...scenery (if you know what I mean...) is not as nice with the exception of a few raaska's, Lyss', OMBD's, and Pianola's......here and there:laugh:)

I blast my music as loud as possible so people know not to bother me. Sometimes, though there are those that just want to talk.

I left the other gym where I used to work out while at home b/c some non kosher activities  started jumping off in the men's locker room😱...NEVER THAT

aight, ill be back in a few. Praying for peace in your decision, pianola.

Thank you. Peace is exactly what needs to be prayed for. There isn't much around here.

OK bottom line (the only point of comparison that is available):

Miami will cost me $34K this year.
Cornell will cost me $49K this year.

Solely based on numbers, Miami. If the schools are otherwise comparable for you and your "feel" for them, follow the money.

I mean, not really. The only place i can think of is in la jolla at windansea where they break literally ON the shore. Everything else is definitely surfable. You can even go to places like sunset cliffs where you paddle for like 10 min cuz the waves break so far out (there is a reef there tho). The waves dont get very big, especially in the summer, with most days being between 2-4 ft but its still a blast. In the winter they can get pretty big....scary big (for me at leasT).

yeah...I was telling Swarley (09medstudent13) about how out in cali we get our biggest regular sets in the winter; however when a hurrican skirts along baja the south facing beaches get really sick sets...so places like Zuma, Laguna, Doheny, part of Newport, etc... Rip tides are bad though on those occasions

or you could just stand next to their bench and start doin the slow jerk. not sure how that would help their work out, but it would be f'in hilarious.
LOL, I would not know what do with myself if I saw someone do that in public
dude UCSD all the way!
My sister lives in San Diego. I visit there at least 4 times a year, Rice 😉

Seriously, wherever makes you happy, and cheaper 🙂
I blast my music as loud as possible so people know not to bother me. Sometimes, though there are those that just want to talk.
I can't stand people who try to talk to me at the gym. It's the one place where I am strictly anti-social. I don't even like running with people. Work out time is alone time !

I agree with Sarah, if the schools are the same for you, then just save the 15K. But if you really feel drawn to one or the other, 15K is not a big deal IMO.

reef surfing is scary

I had some buddies who went surfing out in Hawaii. On the way in one kid was messing around sliced his hand wide open on lava rock 😱

so it looks like Baylor...cough soon to be Rice 😉..cough cough...is out of the picture?

Yeah it was out of the picture May 15th.

The tricky think about Cornell is that my assets will be entirely depleted after my second year at which point my grant money would be increased by $15,000.

So the difference is realistically about $30K over 4 years.

Annnnnd....yeah this is frustrating.

That was a couple weeks ago, where have you been?! 😛

:laugh: I didn't talk much about my decision but I was offered a last minute scholarship at Miami.

Which I now wish I had never mentioned to my parents 🙁.
