and my brother is throwing a surprise bday party for his girlfriend...
 
and I'm here waiting for my bf to come over...
 
and I'm patiently waiting for someone to interrupt this post padding 😀
 
funny story: I was casually talking to my mom and the topic of marriage came up & I mentioned my inner conflict about what I'm going to do with my last name...
 
if we were to marry, my bf really wants me to have his last name.



But apparently my family will be very upset if I do this. They say they helped put me thru med school and they want me to be Dr. MyLastName
 
I didn't realize they felt so strongly about it!



And If I were to marry my current bf, I can't hyphenate because a) it would sound weird and b) it would be really long

I don't think I can! Both of our names have the same beginning sound and it would be

Dr. M*******-M*********

that's a looooong name! haha

this is becoming more and more likely for me... lol it might be cheaper for us since Cornell has couple housing & he will be living in NYC but WITHOUT subsidized housing like yours truly 😀

But we definitely could since my last name is technically two words & his last name has two parts too. We could mix & match :laugh:

Can you legally change your name, in papers and such, and then just use your maiden name for practicing?

That's what I am going to do I think.....not because my fam cares, but because I always imagined myself to be Dr. ******. Although within my own ethnic community, the call doctors by their first name, so I'll be Dr. **** anyways 🙂.

but I think that might be illegal because as a physician you have to use your real name. i'm not sure
 
I always imagined myself as Dr. ******** too & I'm the first professional in my family so I think it would mean a lot to them for me to keep my name...


but my bf is being a tool about this. Uh he just doesn't understand. LoL I hate when we argue over future stuff. We legit have fights over imaginary kid's names



Maybe I just won't marry him and that will solve my problems :meanie:

I just went on a frenzy internet search for this....I don't even have a bf. FML :laugh:

Errrr, what is your preference Chubbs??? (I don't want him to bi*** me out when he reads that.....he already thinks I am cruel to him :laugh:)

It has been a real challenge, but I am loving it. I have just finished my 3rd week. We are now on histology. I have a quiz on monday. It's crazy becuz the information just doesn't stop. They just keep piling it on wether you understand the material or not! :laugh: So you really have to stay on top of it everyday.

Guys so when i was at the club yesterday I definitely ended up hitting on a 17 year old and a 40 year old....they both looked mid to late 20s to me, and i definitely used the line "its only a number, baby!"

I think I'm going to keep my last name because legally it's a PITA to change one's last name. I don't want any annoying problems with security checks and passports and "we can't find your name here anywhere". Besides, there's a very good chance I will earn my MD under my own last name. So I might as well be Dr. Mylastname. (It would be nice to marry Mr. Nola after I finish med school but before I start residency).

I do like Mr. Nola's last name better than mine. So socially, I don't mind if people call me Mrs. Hubbyslastname. Besides, socially, I would kind of like to have the same last name as any children we have together.

True, but its gonna be bitter sweet because the only thing anyone is going to say is "Well, he didnt beat Nadal." Who cares! He still won the french open and was the best on clay for this year.
