Class of 2013!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think the combining both names idea is odd...and completely screws up the genealogy, though I can understand the reasoning behind it. Just not for me. I'll probably be hyphenating since it doesn't look like I'd be married before med school ends but I'd like to be before I start residency. Who knows. I'm kind of tired of people always hacking the pronunciation of my last name and my bf's is muuuuch easier. Luckily hyphenating won't be too long (I don't think) *****-****** ? Maybe? Just use my maiden name professionally, married socially.

today was my last day of undergrad... I turned in my 60 page UG thesis (I know it's short for a thesis), now I'm ready to move the f*** on! yeeeeaaaa booooiiiii

Hello!

Those cookies sound delicious... 😀

I just finished catching up to the Full Rides to Medical School thread. I'm starting to feel really self-conscious now. Is this really the underlying thread of thought between URMs and ORMs? Because that's kind of scary for many reasons.
Honestly don't know how you could have avoided encountering that before now. I had an ORM friend who was a sweetheart but would b*tch about that a lot. She got into Harvard for undergrad so it was not like her life was really affected about it, but she still b*tched about it.

its kind-of like an engagement party.

no gifts supposed to be coming... which is the only difference btw an engagement party and a couples' wedding shower to me.

lyss, can I borrow your kid sister? I wanna see "UP" and always enjoy kid movies more when there's a kid present.

I could take a cousin, but it sounds like you're getting a little run down of her these days, so book her a flight.

if we were to marry, my bf really wants me to have his last name.

But apparently my family will be very upset if I do this. They say they helped put me thru med school and they want me to be Dr. MyLastName
Yeah, I didn't realize parents would have a strong desire for their daughter to keep their maiden name.

ditto here. my parents will be understanding when (if) I get married, but they are looking forward to Dr. OMBD in the family. and since i'll be the only doc in the family, I suppose it makes it all the more realistic of a request/thought.

my friend who recently got married did something interesting that I think I may do as well. I have no middle name (for Russians we are given a name - i forgot what its called technically, a patronymic or something?- where the root comes from our fathers name) and I am thinking maybe ill make my current last name my middle name and my future husbands last name my last name.

ive just spent the past 2 hours reading about the AIrfrance crash and about other airplane crashes.. I hate flying 🙁

Tell me about it. Im about to get on a plane on Tuesday. I hate flying too. I dont care that the probability of me dying on a plane is very slim, its still freaky to think about, which is why i plan on sleeping through most of it.

I think i'll end up doing that too (maiden as middle) and just drop my middle.

Watching the late-term abortion/viability discussion on anderson cooper.

Viability grey area - 22-26 weeks. Viable after 27 weeks.

22 weekers are so tiny. I saw a 23 weeker when I worked nicu that was up to 32 weeks and doing great when I left, in the step-down unit, eating on his own, and waiting on his bradys to stop completely so he could go home. Its amazing.

I used to be scared of flying, then I did it. I really don't have much issue with them generally, but for some reason flying over the water is especially creepy to me

So besides religious reasons, I'm obv. against lateterm abortions. There's too much grey area in my eyes as to when the kid could really make it. Just in the past decade, the age of viability has decreased by several weeks.

There's a thread on this in allo. There are some really upset men posting in it.

so.... what's the procedure you all look forward to the most?

For me, deliveries are AMAZING, both natural and csections. I think catching a baby on OB service will be a wonderfully brilliant moment.

BUT, I'm secretly looking forward to intubations. Trauma intubations specifically. You're keeping someone alive, someone who very well may regain complete function.

my future wife (if i let someone have the honor) can keep her last name.

i think i would like my kids to have my last name though.

LOL, please do that i think my gf would have enjoyed that movie more had a little kid gone with her.

BTW that's some serious post-padding. I'm impressed

CONGRATS 😀

Yup, for Assyrians, middle name is your father's first name, and last name is your grandfather's first name. It gets crazy.....people stopped doing it here obviously, so my last name is my great-grandfather's first name. My sisters have my father's first name as their middle name and they HATE it, I got a normal middle name
and Chubby, I think you do have an accent 😀
"OH LORD, someone is getting arrested in our hotel right now"
"You can still be a virgin and a *****"

Guess who? 🤣
