i have questioned similar requirements, like maryland wants bio and chem, and pittsburgh for example wants three science profs. Is it even worth applying if we dont have these requirements met? lack of commitee letters at individual schools shouldnt hurt us.
 
yeah, especially in my case. They had a committee letter service at my school but after I graduated they stopped doing it to save costs. I didn't get a chem prof or a third sci prof because I thought the committee letter would cover all requirements.

And that's for A's....my school has no +/- deal, and for "PHY 1" and "Organic 1" I got 89% and 89.5% and my school killed me with just B/3.0 towards GPA. Also a C+ is just 2.0 pts.....so my GPA could be higher and is not.....I gave up on thinking about it! :beat:
 
So I just got out of my pre professional health club and am flipping out! Even though I'm on target I still feel behind and unprepared!!!! :scared:

LORs partly done, shadowing done (but you are never really done 🙄), personal statement not done

So need to work on PS, LORs, shadowing and need to pick schools.

Also, I'm confused about the June 1st thing...so we can't start filling it out May 15th?

today I submitted a lot to the Health Office, to help fill my file. I only need my two science profs to hand in their LORs (which I will annoy them about lol), then the HPO will interview me and write their LOR! 🙂

im finishing up the pre-reqs this semester (orgo 2 and bio 2), then DAT in the summer.

Ive been shadowing and plan to continue shadowing into the summer (part-time paid internship there maybe?)

I plan on running for President of the Pre-Dental Society in May, and I will most likely get it.

This whole process is moving so fast, im nervous, but im enjoying it. I cant believe I'll be applying to DS soon. I have to keep telling myself that I am.

Anyone one else freaked out about applying soon? 😕
 
There is nothing to worry about. I'm chillin. I have already got everything done and I'm just waiting for June 1.

I have a feeling this cycle will be the most competitive ever. I'm calling 21/3.6 matriculant average.
 
It's interesting, that the class of 2014 thread is already on the way lol. It seems like a long time since I was scouring for LORs but then again it was only a few months ago!!. Well, I just got accepted to dental school for c/o 2013. I'm thinking more like 24/3.2. Schools are gonna be putting more emphasis on the DAT. Which is cool cause I happen to have 24/3.2 :laugh:

jdm789 how did you like the Kaplan course on Wednesday? The guy was alittle... weird but seemed nice lol How did you think the test went? I'm not gonna lie I thought it was hard haha I was sitting sorta in the back in khaki pants because I came straight from my internship

I'm confused about the 4 LOR max statment in AADSAS. 😕
what exactly does that mean..? Does it mean the maximum for each school applied? or maximum in total?

I thought that we can submit more LOR's to AADSAS and pick and choose which letters to use to specific schools (since each dental school has their own LOR requirements). @.@

Wow, it's so hard to believe 2014 is on their way! Best of luck to all of you. Be prepared for a long, grueling and unfriendly road... though I have to say, an acceptance is DEFINITELY worth it. 🙂

AND DON'T LET THIS SITE FREAK YOU OUT. I got in with 2 Cs in Ochem so yea, it is possible.

I am going to go to the pre-dental meeting soon to see what's happening. I used to be VP but I now graduated. I miss USF😀 Let me know if one of you guys go to the Pre-dental society still and how it is....I am in the FB group for PDS too 😎
 
^I go to the pre-dental meetings every week (minus yesterday because I felt like crap). They are Wednesdays in the new marshall center.

Man, I'm soo close to being done with school, like less than a month. I just gotta get through these last few weeks, send out my application June 1st, then I've got the whole summer to chill. When do you guys finish? Any summer plans?

Tell me about it... I am down to just four weeks of class left until finals week. I rescheduled my admissions test for May so that I can get everything done for the application process. I need to submit to my health committee in early May so I need to start asking for LORs!
 
hey guys do ALL of the LORs need to be from science professors or can you get some from non-science professors.

Many schools recommend that you have at least one from a non-science professor. I don't have any of these, but there are some that require this. So it's not a bad thing, as long as you look at the individual schools and see what they want.

Yeah make sure you check out what's required for each school because it's different for everyone if you aren't using a health committee.

Also, did anyone else not realize that only a few schools need letters from a dentist? I spent two weeks trying to find a general dentist to shadow (I have shadowing hours w/ ortho and ped) so I could get an LOR from him only to find out that he wasn't overly friendly/talkative. Then I worried for a few more weeks about how I would even ask him for a letter before I checked out the requirements of the schools I am interested in. Only two require a dentist letter so I just took them off my list haha.

I know that you don't miss the parking. Thankfully all my classes this semester are in the early A.M so I'm not looking for parking for a half an hour. I have 2 more semesters and I am finished with this place and only 5 weeks of biochem left!!!! I cannot wait for it to be over so I can move on with my life until I see it again in D school. Anyhow go Bulls. lol

It's a rolling app process so of course, the earlier the better. But if you need the time to study so you can do well on your DAT, then take that time because you want to score well. Don't rush and score not so well.
 
currently trying to get LORs, trying to start essay, studying for DAT part deux in late June. stressssssed!

so just to clarify, the AADSAS is available may 15 but first day you can submit is june 1st? so we basically can't access the AADSAS until may and that's when we pay for it??

From the AADSAS website, Please note that the 2010 AADSAS Application Cycle will begin June 1, 2009. The first possible date to create an application and submit materials to AADSAS will be June 1, 2009.

Went online to fill out my application, on May 15th, when I realized this year's cycle doesn't open till June 1st! Damn it! I just wanted to get everything done as early as possible so I could relax a little. I guess I gotte wait!

at least you get to chill til june 1st, while everyone else (including me) is stressin about getting their app together! haha...by the way, how did you do on your DAT's/gpa...and what schools are you applying to? (if you don't mind me asking)

It's OK. There's still plenty of time till June 1st! I'm sure you'll get everything done on time. My DAT scores are as follows:
AA: 22 TS: 22 PAT: 20

My GPA:
Science: 3.84
Non-science: I believe it's 3.87 (I need to double check this one)

I'm applying to whole bunch of schools. But I really wanna get into UCLA, since I went to undergrad there, and I love the school. My 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices are UCSF, Pacific, and UNLV respectively!

Hope you'll get into the school of your choice!

Every cycle there's a person, who calls that cycle the most competitive cycle every! Wow, that's a lot of "cycles" in one sentence!!

Possibly a stupid question that I just realized I don't really know the answer to...does AADSAS send out all 4 of our LORs to ALL schools we applied to, even if some schools only request 3? If we have additional letters, we have to just send those to the specific schools on our own, correct?

Hey guys. It's gonna be a great year. I wonder what effect (if any) the "recession" will play in this years cycle.

PS needs slimming down
DATs done dizzle 21AA
Decent amount of ECs and Shadowing
GPA low :xf:

Writing Personal Statement...well, haven't started yet really.
LOR's done, 2 science and 1 dentist.
DAT done
3.5 gpa or so
Some shadowing and nearly no ECs.
Good research job.
 
does anyone have any streamlined info about which schools require dentists' recs? it'd be great to have that all in one place!
