one time 7 people came into look at my dorm, and my roommates were all getting high at that time and we had a lot of alcohol lying around as well. pretty awkward, none of those kids came

too boring for my tastes. Instead i went to watch alice n wonderland 🙂. Though i had no idea what some of those movies were like the hurtt locker? ? ?

sadly nope. i know which ones i would love to go to but those darn waitlists are getting in the way. trying to decide if its worth waiting around til May/June for a few schools (liked these) when i also really like others that i'm already accepted to. just not sure if i wanna play the waitlist game. you, my dear, have the pick of the litter, which im sure is also not an easy decision!

i was happy to see precious win a few. its an amazing story.

i didnt know until last night that the director of hurt locker is james cameron's ex-wife!

Shockingly, me, even though I'm about the least likely person to pull that off. A friend of mine insisted on holding an Oscars viewing party (at another person's house no less) and I was guilted into watching an even I didn't even remotely care about all night. She knew a ridiculous amount, made us wonder how she ever studies with all the amount of time she must spend on gossip sites 😛

someone posted this a while back in this thread. Its really amazing how close the two movies are.
 
:laugh: I've seen that Avatar outline haha. I instantly thought of Pocahontas after watching the movie but I didn't care...it was too pretty to watch for me to care. I did not expect it to ever win best picture, however...and it didn't.

I expected Precious to do a bit better but I haven't seen a lot of the nominated movies.

I was stunned that Sandra Bullock won best actress; I thought for sure that was going to the girl from Precious, or if not, then Meryl Streep or the actress from An Education.

It wasn't very surprising to see Avatar not win, but I was a little annoyed that The Hurt Locker won such a ridiculous amount. I feel kind of compelled to watch it now, but I'm a little worried it won't live up to the hype; it seems like politically charged movies always win at the Oscars, no matter how irrational that choice may be, because the Academy feels the need to make some stupid statement.
 
i actually really liked sandra bullock in the blind side, but i haven't seen any of the other movies that the best actress nominees came from... so i can't really judge if she deserved it or not

I hadn't seen ANY of those movies, so I can't really judge 😳 But just based on what I'd heard, that was my general feeling.

It's so sad! I watched it at work and had to get up and walk around because I was in tears. But it's really good.

i wasn't too shocked sandra won, after the golden globes, etc awards were given.

i liked what she said - "did i really earn this or just wear you all down?"

and "this award is dedicated to the moms who take care of the kids no matter where they came from" (or something like that). yeah shout out to adoption woot woot!

Me too.

I was kind of surprised she won, just because of the other people nominated.
 
i wasn't too fond of district 9. i was kind of bored.

my PI actually dragged me and my lab to see it at midnight...

This may be true, but the The Hurt Locker was not really a political movie. It's much more about what happens to a unit in Iraq, and how it affects the individual soldiers and their families, etc. There wasn't necessarily a political message to it, other than war sucks, which is kind of self evident.
 
i think you have to get through the first 45 min of district 9 to really enjoy it, i thought the acting was great. its kinda like snatch in the way that it starts out really slow and confusing
