Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
fb sucks.
Agreed
I don't like you.
Hey, isn't this the second time you've made that mistake...on the same person!
yeah me and 0C really do look good in that pic.
Ha ha. I always try to picture what they look like, unless you have your own action that night and you can try to outcompete them. Get a little neighborly rivalry going.

Yeah, I'm the guy you can barely see in the background...
Tried that. But it was my roommate and his girl vs us. Yes, it was awkward later.

lukkie, you really turned some **** up with that Pre-Med, FML thread.
I guess I'll have to go read that thread. I like the controversy.

is anyone going for MD/PhD??
Tried that. Never again.

I think Bryson did it last year.
Correct.

CielloStellato and Bryson are.
Incorrect, just her.

they died
Not yet!

in MD/PhD, there are 3 essays to fill n one of them is about explaining the research so i was wondering should i put research in EC activities as well or not because if u dont get accepted for MD/PhD then most skool consider you for MD only and i am not sure if they can/will see the essay for research.
I had 4 research experiences on my activities. And I wrote about all of them in my research experience. Don't take my advice on this because I didn't even get and interview, but I'd put them in both.

wat if u have 2 research?? one box or two??

ps i have 17 activities total so i do ahve to cut down two
I had 4 research in 4 of the activities. Now I have 5.

Seriously wasnt even trying. Oops. I should have no tried harder.
suuuure.

Morning everyone! I slept from 10:00pm to 8:00am last night. Nothing like making up for lost time, and its sunny here, and my lab project is working!

ps. Holy crap that was a long post. It should count for like 10.

Agreed

I'm back! I spent the whole day Sunday driving about 900 miles. But I don't have internet yet at my place... 🙁 I'm so lost without it. I'll be walking around the neighborhood stealing free internet for a while until I figure out where to get my own internet.

I had a buddy with a 3.8, A summer cancer research fellowship, 33 MCAT and 0 interviews for MD/PhD last year. Granted he didn't research the process very well and some of his application essays may have been lacking...

He also only applied to 6 schools, 2 of which he didn't meet the math qualifications, and 1 of which he was missed a secondary deadline.

Oh, he also applied at the last minute.

So, not a great example, but he didn't get a single interview on stats alone, so don't neglect your essays/activities, and the school requirements. They can be different than the MD only programs.

:woot: Where did you move to?

that response is why I posted that in the first place. I was gonna see if you or 0C was gonna say it first.😀

Ha ha. I was a day late and a dollar short...

I only applied to 7 schools including a couple real tough ones. I really only wanted to stay at my current institution b/c I had already begun my masters. I would have been able to go do the first two years of med school, then come back finish my PhD, then go finish MD. I applied to schools with labs like mine (not many) and schools that I would be ok with starting all over at. All my info is in my MDapps:
<----------

BTW, I recently anonymized myself. No more pic, no more identifying info in my mdapps or on SDN. I also made my fb super secret so that only my friends can look at my pics and what not.

Can I borrow your one of your spare internets, Myuu? I'll bake you cookies.

I'm getting nervous about the number of schools I'm applying to, and may add more. Hopefully my essays will be alright, as I just sent it to my sister's friend who edits essays for a living. Yay! 😀
...But I don't want to think about that now.

And I moved back to Chicago!! Still have my summer research job from last year, but need to start looking for a job for the rest of the year.

Yeah, MD/PhD's are tough programs to get into. An option that a lot of schools have is applying to the PhD side during/after your first year. This makes you more competitive for those spots, but you need to make sure you apply to MD programs that are NIH funded, otherwise you might not get the benefit of their funding for your MD.

I'm sure you're essays will be great. 😉

Nice! Chicago's a cool city.

Yeah... last night I gave up trying to fight it. I will just stop posting here like all the other girls if you boys don't shape up.

Promises promises...

🙁😳

Hey general sort of question for you folks. What part of the application process here is supposed to be the most stressful/tedious/torturous/lame?

This AMCAS hasn't been all that bad.

writing a million secondaries as quickly as possible is bad for most people. also interviews can be stressful.

by the by... wtf is that professor smiley? i don't understand it at all. the look on his face does not seem very professorial to me. 😕

I'm excited/anxious. Should be an adventure. 🙂

I'm not really sure how I feel right now...

I'm still a little nervous about the MCAT, so I'm guessing that's why I'm feeling pretty numb to the whole process, but every now and then excitement seems to seep out.

I think it helps knowing that the degrees are done now and I can just focus on med school stuff from here on out.

But I am also thinking about throwing a few DO schools on my list and am worried that research at DO schools might not be up to snuff...

Interviews, hands down. I get nervous. But I've gotten better. 🙂
I keep telling myself that I'm excited for interviews, but really I know I'll be nervous. Maybe if I get enough practice at some schools, I can start to give a better interview.

My advisor gave me a list of like 300 questions they could ask (some repeats) and I've been filling those out.

I'm going to say neigh to all of the above, with the exception of stress. I think nerves are a bit different than stress, so with that in mind I'm guessing most people will be at the very least a little nervous for their interviews.

For me, I'm excited to write secondaries, because it's going to give me a chance and an excuse to really research the hell out of the schools I'm interested in. I'm also excited for the interviews, because if you're getting them then you're not doing half bad.

The only thing I foresee as being stressful is the time between when interviews stop and acceptances start, assuming you don't have an acceptance from a school yet.

I'm also a little nervous about the DO deposits. I'm going to have to investigate how those bad boys work, because if you lose it then I'm going to be praying I get some acceptances all around the same time.

You should share those. 😀

I plan to look over the Interview Feedback on SDN.👍
