This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
boo on BU! lol that's interesting about your georgetown dream. did they actually show you the library on interview day? they didn't show it to us, so i have no idea if it's weird or not! .

They didnt show me either. hahaha Thats why it was funny. It was all these old chairs and a bit stuffy. Just funny, Loved Gtown a lot.

technically no one is forced to have anything, it's a tax otherwise.

Several Constitution scholars have said the bill will have no problem winning the lawsuits that have been filed against it. Remember, Obama taught Constitutional law as a professor at a law school for several years.

I was under the impression that the lawsuits were basically a formality since they have no chance of winning. I guess just political posturing? Regardless for better or worse our particular class is going to be in an odd situation being that we have no idea what will happen and its not really a reality to just quit now lol. When we finally graduate itll just be thrown on us 🙂

State or Federal it's the presedence set by car insurance nationally. Makes it really hard to reppeal the HR reform.. and makes me 🙁

blobby blob any word from ucla today? I couldnt tell if you were in this bad batch 🙁. Though even if you were youre in at like ucsd and other awesome places right?

This is just the reality our generation of physicians is going to have to deal with. We wrote all those convincing essays about how we get warm fuzzies from medicine, now it's time to see if they were really true.

warm and fuzzies tend to die when the department lead at costco makes more then me as a doc 😉 haha...but such is life.:laugh:

In mass you get fined a SERIOUS wad of cash if you do not have HI. So "technically" it feels like being forced.

Does the dept head at costco have a 350 thousand dollar debt for education (or rather indentured labor)?

The two aren't really comparable.

We do force people to buy car insurance if they own a car.

But forcing people to buy health insurance is more akin to forcing everyone to buy a Chevy.

(For the record, I do support the insurance mandate, even though I recognize that it's nothing bit a giveaway to the insurance industry.)

They are true. I work in the medical field now, like I have for the last 7 years. That has nothing to do with wanting to be compensated for my work and debt. But I have academic rational why I believe this system is going to fail majorly. In that same vein I want would prefer things to be done another way. Pay primary care physicians more not less (mind you I want to do surgery not primary care) because when they fail we all fail.

If they are going to cut reimbursements for us, then why can't they also cut medical school costs, too? Sounds to me they want their cake and eat it too.

I think education should be free. hell, I'm pretty much for a socialized society. 👍

got myself a Yale hoody and some cute, but not very functional, adidas shoes. cant wait for summer rec soccer to start. 😍

I wrote my personal statement about how I really like blood and guts and being a doctor is more socially acceptable than being a serial killer. I am not even joking about this. 😀

Then I will make sure I am in NOLA that weekend.

It's on a Saturday. So you think things won't pick up until Monday?

well, in duke's email they said.... the deadline for sending in a deposit or blah blah blah will be may 15, which is a saturday, so they will wait til monday to make any decisions

not sure if other schools will follow but i think most of them have some kind of a ranking for waitlists

admin offices dont function on sat typically (at least not at any school im in or WL at.) Id assume it would likely be even a few days after monday. Monday they will probably be busy finalizing their class numbers and seeing whos in and whos not. Then fill the rest off their WL

they'll probably just be like **** it, lets go watch the world cup and not do anything about their WLs

How much of a greater chance is there to get accepted into Iowa's med school if you are an Iowa resident?

At this point, I think I'm already looking ahead to May 15th and waitlist movement. I'm slowly losing faith that I will have any shot of getting in before then. At least a bunch of people should withdraw and head to Cali or the east coast. The only problem is that I have to make a decision before then.

for baylor you mean? Why do you have to make a decision before may 15th that seems early? I dont think any med schools start before july?

No, I mean make a decision between LSU and VCU. I'm definitely leaning towards LSU because of money, but things can happen.

In fact, a lot of things can happen between now and May 15th.

Way, way easier to get in IS, there's only like 400 applicants for 90 spots or something. It's pretty intense OOS competition, though.

Kansas starts in July, and by the traffic rules, I think they can make you commit by April 15th. I'm not sure they are doing this, but they start late July.
