Haha - My (Easter) break actually starts today so I'm gonna go out tonite... so I should be able to wii it up friday night 👍 (and I can always just go out after on friday too if somethings going on)
 
Man, the f-35 is in deep doodoo, the DOD shoulda just kept with the f-22. Now Russia might come out with their next generation fighter jet, scary.
 
I have emerged, people. After 3 days trying to install windows 7 x64 on my desktop, I have succeeded. Thx, Microsoft. Now hopefully my battlefield 2 won't crash repeatedly.

How is it? My friend said it's awesome, though it's possible that anything would seem awesome compared to Vista.

Too dang expensive, even if they mass produce as planned, it'll still cost 200+ million per plane. It would've actually been cheaper to build a few hundred more F-22s, which were scrapped because they were supposed to be too expensive....

But I thought we have been using the F-35's since 2005?? Just with one engine instead of the twin's right?? Or am I mucking this whole thing up./

I rem we scrapped the f-22's but we have a bunch already.

Nah, the plan is to achieve Initial Operational Capability by 2015, but there are delays once again and 20 billion more might have to be poured into it to keep it on track. This is a plane that was supposed to cost $35 million by the end, now there is NO WAY it's anything less than $100 million per plane and it'll probably be closer to $200 million per. Only 180 something F-22's were built before the program is shut down, that's simply not enough even in a limited conflict against a potent enemy(i.e. Korean/Vietnam war type).

The F-35 should be a single engine plane only, like the F-16, while the F-22 is the double engine one, like the F-22.
 
f-15, you mean. also, f35 is the bird for the navy in addition to other services, f22 is not for carrier service

Yea, I meant F-15 :laugh: The F-35 simply isn't worth its price tag. The USN is better off upgrading and buying the newest F-18s. Maybe add some stealth features and make it a 4.5 generation like they did to the F-15(i.e. the Silent Eagle), the "Silent Hornet" perhaps?

the hornets are going to need replacing at some point, and they're not quite like the now-retired f-14s, if i know this right. smaller, less payload, i think.

Yeah. The f-14 is a two person pure fighter with the longest range air-to-air missiles on the planet. The f-18 is a one person fighter-bomber. IMO we already have the best planes on the planet. It's nice to have improvement, but we don't really need to be buying a lot of them.
 
Oh right,

But I coulda thought I read the the F-35 was dual engine capable but they haven't raised the money to add the second engines. This issue came up because of the F-22's issue.

Eventually they do, but not now and not with just anything. The F-35 is certainly suitable technology-wise, but the cost will be unbearable. If its cost keeps going up or even hold steady, it will cost sales internationally, driving the per unit price even higher. There's no accountability with these defense contractors.

Right, we should just skip the disastrous 5th generation fighters and move on to 6th gen while holding down the fort with some 4/4.5 gen fighters. Aerial superiority does need to be maintained, as the Russians and the Chinese are trying pretty hard to catch up.

In other news, LSU-S was all like "pick a school by April 15th" since apparently they start before August 1st and they can do that. There's no way I'm withdrawing from everywhere else without a very good reason and they aren't sending out financial aid until May.

LSU-S is forcing her to withdraw from all other schools before 4/15, which is before she hears back from some of her other schools regarding finaid. Most schools can't force you to withdraw from other schools until 5/15, but LSU-Shreveport can do it because they begin school before 8/1 whereas most other schools begin after 8/1.

I'm a lil curious about that too, because Case also begins before 8/1 and they make us decide on 5/1, before some schools' aid stuff come out. It's not as big of a problem for me as it is for ksmi tho, cause 5/1 is two weeks later and my other choice Miami has already given me some finaid.
