Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I guess the good thing about LSU is that the COA is ~150k tops.
shouldnt it be cheaper then that? Sadly for cali state schools it gets around 210k...not to mention im going to have to take way more then that for my son....If i got no free money i think i could easily have to take 260k in loans for school:scared::scared:. Someone needs to throw me some full tuition scholarships!

It should, right?

Tuition will probably be about 18k/year after increases. I have a feeling the cost of living is too much, so I could always reduce that. But then again, what do I know about that?

The estimated COA per year in last year's MSAR is 35,340. My roommate's brother is apparently already in 150k, and I don't understand why. But then again, he isn't the brightest...

Yep, that's what most of us are looking at.

👍

Yep, that's what most of us are looking at.

with interest it'll easily balloon to well over 400k...i just can't help but pick the cheaper option. my parents might have other ideas tho, i still need to talk it over with them

Elijah, you need to be an intervential radiologist or something to get rid of that.
ive decided im doing derm or rad onc ahhah:laugh::laugh:. Serious its kinda depressing when i think about so i just pretend i live in a world where debt doesnt matter and my likely 400k in loans (factoring interest) wont matter😛. Its great!

i heard it might not be as great anymore, because other specialties are doing their own interventional stuff, like cardiologists doing cardiac interventional radiology and stuff.

by the time we all make it there everything will have probably changed so drastically that it will be impossible to pick what pays well. I figure even if we take 250k in loans for school...thousands have done it before us and are fine so somewhere in the long run, things must workout in ways that we just cant see right now. I mean if you go to like BU, Gtown, drexel, etc....you are likely 300k+ in debt as the COA is 70k+ at these places...and those guys end up fine. That or maybe im kidding myself and im going to do what met says and be a plastic surgeon for the stars.......

That works. It's nice to just ignore huge things like that if thinking about it won't help you.

There was that article about how huge debt makes people go into higher paying specialties. That sucks that we might not be able to do what we really want (specialty or non-specialty wise) because of tuition and things we can't control.

Interesting.

since i've pretty much decided on my school, should i hide my mdapps profile now to remain somewhat anonymous? i'm kinda debating it, cuz researching other ppl's mdapps profile really helped me this year, but i dont really want future classmates to see my profile through sdn

even if they saw it who cares? I took my mdapps down anyways but still.

I gave up on anonymity a long time ago. It's pointless now. I do realize how obvious it is to figure me out if you know anything about me.

Whatever. I don't think I do/say anything horrible on here anyway, or at least anything I don't care if someone else sees.

If you want to help people out and remain anonymous at the same time, just make a new one that is less specific and unlink it from your SDN account. That way people can still find it in a search of MDApps and read/look at it, but it doesn't make your identity so obvious. That's where mine went.

Even though I had absolutely no reason to, I was randomly reading the Pritzker thread and he mentioned it there

But yeah, major 👍 for Stein ending up where he'd be happiest. And I'm guessing he gets to be with his fiancee, too.

yay for happy endings

It would bug me if I knew people from this thread ended up somewhere where they may not be that happy because of money.

You're a nice dude.

Thanks, I try. 😀

I was talking to someone today that didn't get in (even though I know he'll be a great doc one day) and I realized that I'm bitching about nothing. I got in, and that's what matters. A lot of people don't. I still want my #1 choice, but I'm lucky to get in anywhere.

...studying going well but work is in ~5 hours :scared:

Good attitude to have. 👍 I am going to adopt it also.

...and I'm still awake. Not remotely tired, though. This day should be interesting - work from 8-10:30ish, test at 12:30, tutoring sometime in the afternoon, need to start/finish a book...

Yeah, maybe I'll find some time to eat and sleep in there.

My roommate's dog has freaked out like 4 times tonight for no apparent reason. I'm almost glad that I wasn't sleeping.

You need to show him who's the boss.

it's true-- we're all lucky in that way. however i don't think that means you're not entitled to some disappointment. you didn't get your #1 choice (yet!) and that SUCKS. not the end of the world, but it sucks. just because there are starving kids in africa doesn't mean we can't be disappointed when our SOs dump us or when we do poorly on an exam or whatever.

i was telling tata this a while ago (during my hiatus 🙂)-- having a solid school in your back pocket, like tulane or LSU or sinai in my case is awesome. but i still totally get how much it hurts that you don't have your first choice as an option. that's why we have this thread to complain in 😀

Very well said.

I always forget how nice it is to watch the sun come up in the quiet of the morning.

I just realized there have been a lot of "school x vs waitlisted school y and z" threads lately. That's kind of ridiculous. Make the choice when/if it happens.

I didn't really notice any of those last year.

there were a lot fewer of them last year. my favorite is the person who just posted about tufts vs. like 5 schools they're waitlisted at. seriously? you haven't even gotten effing accepted. chill. there's no decision to make right now.

...and looking at those waitlisted schools there might not ever be one to make at all.

I think my computer is rebelling against me for keeping it on for too long by running extremely slow.

Off to work, hopefully I don't fall asleep and miss my test.

morning everyone🙂 had to bring the kids i nanny to school because their dad had a meeting, then ate a cinammon crunch bagel at panera, and now i'm going for a run!

dw-what you said about not getting into your #1 school is so true. i totally agree!

whoa, Stein's going to end up at Michigan!
crazy

Thanks bob, you're a pretty awesome guy. 😎

Hey guys, sorry I didn't make it over here the last few days, it has been an absolutely insane week. I will definitely be at Michigan next year, they did end up offering a reasonable aid package in the end. A little persistence pays big dividends in this process. If you want to go somewhere, tell them. Many times.

As far as happy endings, my fiancée was literally jumping up and down for ~20 minutes yesterday when I got the e-mail, so I'd say this ending is as ideal as we could have possibility wished for. The two-body problem does have a solution!

I hope all is well with all of you, and that after all this work and anxiety you guys end up somewhere that makes you happy. You all deserve it. 👍👍

great story. congrats. 👍

Congratulations.

My daughter graduated 2008 from MCG. I believe the class size was 172. With the size of the class growing will there be additional staff added to teach the increasing enrollment?

I have not seen anything that addresses this problem.

I should change my sign in from DadofDr2b to DadofDr.

If you want more doctors in Georgia, the number of residencies is more important than increasing the number of medical students. Georgia ends up graduating many MD's that do residency in other states thus sending Georgia tax payers money off to support healthcare outside of Georgia. The doctors are usually 25-35 and become a part of the community where the residency is located. Georgia then has a problem getting them to move back.

Just a thought.

You might want to try posting this in the school specific section (specifically, under MCG's thread) if you want better feedback.
