Gotta write another LOI to Pritzker today and I keep putting it off.

I heard Harvard students not only tear pages out of textbooks, but they hunt down the professors who wrote the textbooks to prevent the publication of another edition.

Psh, SDN is always right. Harvard just thinks that they know themselves. SDN knows all.

 I had no idea so many people were contending for him! And yeah, I was planning on keeping him...

cuz he's awesome! his bat is hot, he chugs into 3rd base like his life depends on it, and he's amazing behind the plate.

Evidently, there is such a thing as showing too much interest in a school. In the context of asking about shadowing opportunities over the summer, I got this sentence as part of the reply "We request that you do not contact our busy faculty with requests until you are officially enrolled." 🙁

Bastids. Speaking of too much interest, just sent in my 3rd LOI to Pritzker (4th letter, 5th additional material)

Haha, yeah, I hear ya. Pritzker rejected me pre-interview...I guess they sensed my neuroticism just from my app 😉

Do you ever feel like you're pissing people off by sending too many letters/emails? I am genuinely interested and want to do something this summer, but I fear I have almost made them regret accepting me...lol. I can't help that I am excited...

awwww violincuty, don't worry. i think your interest is endearing. at least ucsd picked a student who is super excited about their school. they were probably laughing and thinking, "those over-eager pre-meds 🙄." that being said, students at ucsd told me that they can shadow anyone they want, faculty are very receptive to requests. can you volunteer at hillcrest as a member of the public/not a student?

Hmm, I don't know. I'd love to...not sure that they are receptive to it based on their response. I will PM you their response...would you be willing to share your thoughts?

Well you've got the acceptance, so there's very little they can do unless you go on a shooting spree. I do think it's more of a liability issue though. I asked to shadow a Rush anesthesiologist, and he was under the impression I was a med student and was all good with it but once I figured out the miscommunication he said he couldn't because of liability. So they may just need to have you enrolled and under their insurance/waiver/whatevs first.

That's almost exactly what they said...it makes sense, I just wish it wasn't the case. I am not sure what else to do this summer. I really can't afford to go on a fancy vacation and I would love to do something academic other than research or classes. I could always continue to shadow the physician I am shadowing in Vegas, I guess...but I was hoping for something a little more exciting 😳

move to la jolla early and live it up ? 😛

Yeah, I was thinking that too...only problem is that I need an excuse to live in student housing. I guess I could take their "pre-matriculation course", but I was really hoping to not have to take classes...meh 😎

...and I know many people probably think "come on, you live in VEGAS"...but really, when you've lived here for 23 years...it gets old (and it's also 120 degrees here in the summer!)

Make a Harvard hazing thread. "I heard that all the M1s have to go through orientation week with crimson paint covering their faces. I don't know if I wanna do that..."

 what's the most embarrassing thing you've seen with regards to hazing? if i remember correctly, our swim team freshmen had to walk around for a week without showering, wearing the same white t-shirt. they simultaneously needed to get as many phone numbers from girls as they could (written in marker on said t-shirts). the week culminated in having to wear speedos to all their classes

Well I heard some fraternity stories from some friends that were absolutely horrendous... and it was from a typically nice Jewish frat, too.

If anything like that happened at my school, people would have been kicked off the team. They take hazing very seriously here, apparently.

In band, we make all the freshman tubas all squeeze into the bathroom on our charter bus and sing Hey Fighting Tigers. That's about all I got.

yeah hazing in MA is illegal, and our school takes it pretty seriously...i'm sure some crazy stuff went on behind closed doors, but the speedos are just what the rest of us got to see

During "hell week", pledges had to live in at the house in this one large room, all 20 of them. Trick was that they could only leave the room to go to class or to fraternity events that they were required to be at. They were fed in the room. Couldn't shower in the room. Oh, and it was BYOS (bring your own shoebox) for the bathroom.

Oh, and they had Rock Me Amadeus playing 8AM - 2AM.

they also obviously didn't call it hazing...it was team bonding
