Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My flight to Reykjavik was cancelled. Just chilling in the pre-security area of terminal 7 in jfk in NYC. If anybody wants to visit I'll be here for quite a while. 🙁

It's probably all stuff I've heard before, but do PM me in case it's new info.

harsh. sorry, man.

at least you've got internet access?

Stoney:

I wouldn't do option B. The thing that med schools look for in reapplicants is how you've improved. By taking more classes, you won't be able to show much improvement at all since your GPA is already pretty high. You need to be able to reflect on why your application wasn't successful the previous year, and even though I think it's really just applying late and/or being unlucky, you can't use it as your main explanation.

I don't know how your activities are like, but you should identify where you're the weakest, and focus on that. Get a volunteer position if you have to, and use your remaining energy to make some money and make ends meet. You also have to focus a bit on the specifics, like did you hop from one activity to another? If so you may want to stick with one for a while to show sort of the quality of your work rather than just quantity.

Also, you'll need at least one new LOR if you have to apply the next cycle. It would be a good idea to get it from the place you've been focusing on.

Thanks dingy (and everybody else who posted their opinions)! This is all solid advice. I'm going to make another, more specific post about it on the facebook group. It can be a "what are my chances" type thing, except for only you guys to look at. I can totally understand if you are all sick of hearing about my application troubles, but this way, in case you still feel like helping out, maybe you can provide me more specific feedback about ways to improve my application. 🙂

Ackkk. Ya... thank god for internet.... and at least it's not LaGuardia!

That.

Suuuuuucked.

here's hoping the professor doesn't actually hold us to that attendance policy because if so I definitely failed that class. We have the "if you get an A on every test you auto-A" clause, but I definitely did not just get an A.

you could be like tom hanks in the terminal (i think that was JFK too)

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil's health minister has a remedy for the nation's high-blood- pressure problem: More sex.
Minister Jose Temporao says adults should be exercising more to help keep their blood pressure down — and he says a good cardiovascular workout includes sex, "always with protection, obviously."
Temporao also recommends dancing, a healthy diet and regular blood-pressure checks.
The minister made the comments Monday while launching a national campaign against high blood pressure in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia.
The Health Ministry says that 21.5 percent of Brazilians had high blood pressure in 2006. That jumped to 24.4 percent in 2009.
