Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why would anybody listen to something while they are sleeping?

yeah, i dont know about you, but it takes me about 20-30 min to fall asleep usually once I get in bed. If I just lay there, I start thinking about things that stress me out and it makes it worse. So by listening to AO and focusing my mental energy on that, it's the double benefit of making me learn stuff and also getting my mind off of other stuff. and since its so damn boring it makes me sleepier than just lying there would. before long i pass out! but not before getting a few random nuggets of knowledge in.

plus- although i would NOT rely on this as a study tactic!- i do believe in the power of subconcious. if i fall asleep listening to AO every night, who knows how much of that knowledge is actually making its way into my brain? if it's none, then no big deal, but i dont think it could hurt. i dont think it would make it into my 'recall' memory but maybe it will strengthen my 'recognition' memories.

anyway . . . if you're one of those people who just gets into bed and goes right to sleep, i'm jealous!

i wonder what would happen if i flat out said that i fight crime at night, straight face and all.

i really want to watch unbreakable again. it was sooo cool, how an ordinary guy can find out hes got actual superpowers! too bad it didnt do so hot in the box office, i want to be a hero someday. we'll see.

so unfortunately theres been a ton of studies disproving the whole subconscious and sleep thing..sorry guys..i wish that worked! but i use it too fall asleep too sometimes.

I dunno, spiderman might get an acceptance before batman..not sure though. I would LOVE someone to put that on a CV and say it staight face at an interview..i would die!!

I used to listen to music while I tried to fall asleep. Now I can't.

Today I lost my iPOD in my volunteering place. I think it fell out of my pocket. So ****ing pissed.😡

do you guys always talk about random things on here?

Never mind. I found it, it was in my pocket.🙂

Ipod nano in my inside coat pocket. Very happy.😀

Ah. Makes it a little better I suppose. I forget that some people are still in cold weather. It was in the 50's yesterday, and I thought it was cold because I had to wear a light jacket and pants. How easily we in the South forget what cold really is. It only lasts a few weeks here.

dammit . . . i want to move to louisiana. Is Tulane really the only school that will take out-of-staters?? LSU= haters

I'm in the West Coast and it's still cold here.🙁

Ugh... I hate when I type up stuff and lose it!

Why would anyone want to move to Louisiana? I'm kinda partial to it, but I grew up here. Sure, Mardi Gras is fun and the food is awesome, but there's a lot of other stuff that's not so awesome. Yeah, LSU is pretty strict about the OOS rules. But if they weren't a lot of LA kids wouldn't be able to get in anywhere since our education system isn't so good. I guess this is their way to ensure that LA will have doctors down the road.

TX med schools don't show much love to OOS either. They all have a 10% cap of OOS acceptances. Except Baylor though. It's a good thing that TX has this b/c it will help me out a lot.

The weather down South is very unpredictable. It's cold one day and hot the next. I get sick b/c of the rapid weather change. Houston is known to have unpredictable weather.

p.s. TX is a good state to live in b/c according to facts, we can survive by ourselves as an independent nation if we secede from the union. We have largest medical center in world, oil, port, cattle industry, Houston rodeo, agriculture out west. plus everything is bigger here in TX 🙂 people here drive like crazy big cars which I am always afraid of getting hit by.

I'm just sick of all the silly crap that comes with winter. Having to get up 30 minutes early to make sure my car starts and dig it out from under snow or chip a layer of ice off it. Or getting stuck in traffic for two hours trying to get somewhere that's two miles away because it snowed and they didn't plow it yet. Or slipping and falling down icy steps and getting an enormous bruise on my arse 👎 or trying to find a place where i can walk my dog that isn't covered in salt. Winter is just hugely depressing and obnoxious.

of course, i wouldn't have these issues in Cali either but I don't have a snowball's chance in hell there. Louisiana, at least, is a hell that this snowball has a chance in 😀

i like four seasons or at least a period of crappy weather, otherwise you wont really appreciate the good weather days as much.

It even snowed here this year! It stayed on the ground and everything, but it was melted by noon that day, but it was safest that way. NO ONE knew how to drive in snow. I'm partial to our 2 week winter, and then everything else just kinda runs together. Summer is hot, but I like hot better than cold, I think. There are swimming pools and AC and shade to help with the heat.

I'm off to go shadow for the day. I hope it's fun!!!

It snowed one day during finals. It started at 4 in the morning and EVERYONE was awake and outside. I feel like snow is the only way to get like every LSU student up and going at all hours of the morning. I had a test that day, but I skipped studying to play.

So, I just got back from shadowing a dermatologist. It was pretty cool. There was a resident in his last year of FP there, too, so I got lots of information about what each step in the process of becoming a doctor is like. 🙂

speaking of LA, lets talk about my main dogg Bobby Jindal

i have no idea who bobby jindal is, to be fair. i did not see the speech and all i know is that his name showed up all over some news sites and so i thought id ask lol. and no you do not have to pick topics evar.

Woo! Yay money! Care to share??? 😀

well i opened my very first ebay/paypal account (wow, thats so 1997, rite?) but I did it primarily b/c i wanted to sell my iPhone (it sucked, seriously) and so I made my listing and bla bla bla, got bids and was excited. But i was also paranoid that maybe id get jipped and send my item out and find out the transaction went sour.

Low and behold it was a risky transaction b/c after I sent it out, my account was limited/on hold while something had to be resolved. For days I was like freaking out b/c my 500 dinero was not able to be released until further notice. The buyer never responded to any of my requests, and I had a friend look into it, and they told me that I was the victim of a stolen credit card. yikes.

fortunately I saved the reciepts and the insurance labels and had them sent to paypal and they finally cleared the account for limits and i am breathing normally.

Scary!! Things like this are why I don't have a paypal account. It scares me too much.

true but i always think, little old ladies sell stuff online these days using ebay and paypal haha. you just got to be careful/save all documents and sell to established buyers, ya kno?

ps i just got the new fray album and my hopes are high.

Bobby Jindal was great. He's an intelligent man. too bad our governor is a *******. Rick Perry sucks!!!

I wish Jindal was our governor. Sorry guys...i'm an independent turned conservative and i have to compliment smart conservatives 🙂

cannot stand liberals at all!!!

it seems that you guys are starting to put real picture as your icon. i don't know if i should. it's too risky b/c it's the internet. should i? i hate this solar eclipse icon. <---well it does symbolize my favorite show ever...HEROES!

I agree that Jindal is intelligent. I just don't think that speech was his best. At the beginning it was all like, yay America and bipartisan stuff... and then it was the democrats did this and they're wrong. I just I was just hoping for a speech that didn't shoot down another party. Because I'm sure there are some Republicans that voted for the stimulus thing and some Democrats that didn't. I think generalizing parties is what gets us in trouble in the first place. When people vote party lines and don't take the time to research the candidate's platform, we find ourselves in more trouble than before. JMHO. If he had said everything he said without blaming it on the Democrats, I think I would have liked it better.

And Storytime with Jindal at the beginning was weird, too.

ALL democrats voted for it. in both House and Senate. Only 3 republicans voted for it and they're moderate not conservative republicans. they will pay for this in upcoming election in 2010. the one from PA and 2 from Maine.

Democrats blamed the republicans everytime when Bush was president. Jindal blame democrats because they're reponsible for the mortgage crisis and this big stimulus which will not stimulate economy b/c it's filled with pork projects. EX: like how is giving millions to restore grass at the National mall in DC going to help create jobs? and i don't mean 1 time job but permanent job.

ookay guys lets not lose our heads here. i think everybody intelligent about economics would have no way to pin any particular group down as responsible for the current state of affairs. everybody including ordinary citizens are responsible for the actions that we now have to deal with. this is not a democrat/republican financial crisis, this is everybody's and so i fail to see any truth to how various parties will deal with this unless it is bipartisan and supported by clear thinking.

OK, maybe they did ALL vote for it. I apparently assumed wrong. I tried to do a quick search before I posted that but obviously failed to find the exact info. But that's not the point I'm making. I'm saying that blaming the other party will get us nowhere. Just like all Republicans shouldn't be blamed for Bush's actions, all Democrats shouldn't be blamed for the stimulus package. I'm not in favor of it either, but who knows, maybe it will help. I don't think anyone knows whether it will or not. In the end, America elected these people, and we have to have faith that they semi-know what they are doing. I don't care if Republicans disagree with it. I disagree with it, but I don't think the party thing is something that should be involved right now. It doesn't help at all. Besides, flat out saying, "this is the Democrat's fault," isn't going to recruit any more Republicans. It will just make the divide bigger because people feel attacked. I just think that same speech could have been made without the obvious distinction between the parties.

i just read an amazing book entitled, the next 100 years - george friedman...

literally, a forcast of global events for the next 100 years by a noted economist. I loved it, it was very eye opening and completely turned my views of world events upside down. but ill cut to the chase - america is numero uno, and will always be (for at least the next 100 years lol) and that our system of politics is both a blessing and a curse. we love to bicker about party lines but it is entirely irrelevant as socio-economic pressure dictates global events and not individual congress' and presidents. sadly, this is hard to swallow but i thought id give ya two cents on a book i gave two thumbs up!

class of '14 hopeful here! I just registered after lurking on here for a while. Finishing up my M.S. right now with one more year of pre-reqs (because my undergrad school would never let me enroll in the dang classes).

I had a terrible undergraduate cumulative (3.0) GPA but have a 3.7 right now in graduate school and am retaking some pre-reqs that I got a C and B- in. I haven't taken the MCAT yet, but am preparing for the summer as I'm going to take Orgo II then. I just hope I'm not wishing in one hand and crapping in the other....

Thanks! 🙂 M.S. is in Exercise Physiology. B.A. was in the same thing. Reading papers for my lit review gets boring at times, so I'm glad I found this place with other like-minded people.
