Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
yeah, my man went to med school and did residency in mich, so Im a little familiar. its not bad. well, the upper peninsula leaves some to be desired. Ontonagon, hougton, etc. lol, the memories. Tech vs. Northern is an epic rivalry.

The UP is beautiful, although all of Michigan is like that when you're not in the industrialized areas. Like seriously, if I drive 30 minutes away from my house I'll have to start watching out for Deer and hell, if you're on OU's campus at night you'll see Deer. But like, my lake is overfished, yet if I drive half an hour the fish are jumping out of the lakes and you can see the stars in the night sky so perfectly. There's nothing like living on a lake though, I wouldn't even trade it in for a porsche.

Lobe on the left, cartilage(helix) on the right. I don't think he understood what I meant by a cartilage piercing. I think he thought I got my septum pierced.

Congrats dude, I'm sure it looks awesome.

Are most of the rich Detroit people holdovers from the auto money?

The most well known rich people are (the fords, bill davidson, peneske). but there's more variety than people think. Mike Ilitch owns little cesars, the tigers, the red wings and a local movie theater. There's mall developer and a trade guy who owns the ambassador bridge to Canada (blanking out on his name). For non-billionaire there's at least two former pharmacy chain owners who sold out to the big national chains ect and the same investors, finance people, consultants, docs, lawyers, celebrities you see in any big city.

Mike Illitch lives in Beverly Hills, MI. His house is nothing special compared to how much he makes, my buddy lives right next to him. But yeah, he's got some real cheddar.

In general though, there's a ton of upper middle class and rich people and I think it gets overlooked big time. Like the people living in the city your from Yoda aren't celebrities, but my ex lives where your from and again, her dad rolls around in a ferrari. The RO has gone to hell though, downtown is sicky, but the residents are piss poor and the houses are old and really cheap. That is the same way Southfield is now, in fact Southfield is worse cause of high taxes and high insurance fees.

If you were to drive 20 minutes straight west of Detroit you would end up in Northville which is full of rich people. Drive about 45 minutes East and you end up in Grosse Point which is extremely rich, a little more East and you are in Saint Claire Shores which is unreal, just loaded. You drive about 40 minutes North of Detroit and you end up by me which is rich by all means. Drive 35 minutes Southwest and you end up in Ann Arbor which is a great city. Drive about an hour North East and you end up in Shelby Township which is upper middle class. The farther you get from Detroit the richer, but a lot of these people work in Detroit, or go to Detroit in their free time at the bars etc. The media makes Detroit out to look like Darfur or something. It's not.

Thanks, I think they look pretty sweet. Self-expression FTW.

Dude, are you a detroit lifer?

Yeah. My great grandma originally emigrated to California and was part of the first 10 arabs there, but she moved to Michigan shortly there after and we've been very successful and prosperous Michiganders since then 😎. I've been to a lot of States and I just can't see myself living anywhere else and enjoying it as much as I have. That's for sure going on my in-state applications lol.

Guinness in cans SUCKS SO BAD.

The Draught has the little balls in it lol. I'm not a fan of Guiness in cans either though. I'm not really a fan of cans at all though, I prefer my beer in a bottle or out of a keg.

Yeah, I've got the draught. The balls in it doesn't do **** for me. I would take draught in the bottle anyday.

I'm not gonna lie, one day someone needs to sit me down and explain the difference between Draught, Ale, Stout, Lager, etc. with me.

Hahhahahah see the blue area right above the really rich area, that is called Pontiac. I've got some crazy stories about clubbing in Downtown Pontiac as well as my neighbors calling the cops on every black guy that drives down our street because we are too close to Pontiac for his comfort.

I understand the difference between ales and lagers, but only to the extent that different yeasts are used during fermentation. Thanks microbiology degree, I knew you'd be useful someday!

tiedye, i hope you apply mstp only or md only man, dont leave that option of choosing between one or the other

What? What is that area that makes ~6,600 per capita?! A homeless commune?
that maps a lil confusing for me, lol. according to payscale, the average salary in detroit is 62K. maybe that helps.

what happen to mstp????????? dont take my advice, i have no idea what im doing
Naw, I thought long and hard about it. I probably would not have used the PhD and I would rather have those three years to make money, get a trophy wife, buy a nice car, buy a nice home, and just get on with life.

Besides, it hit me recently that I HATE the politics involved in research.

Yeah, I know that ales are top-fermenting and brewed at warmer temperatures, whereas lagers are bottom-fermenting and brewed at colder temperatures.

And I know that porters were named for London river porters since it was especially popular with them back in the day.

That's all I remember from my wiki surfing on beers.

This is a typical house on my street:

I know it's not like California or New York and I respect that, but you have to understand people are working their tails off to live the dream in MI and property on the water costs a lot!

See Brooklyn, I will use those three-five years to get one step closer to buying a house like that.

Brooklyn I'm loving the avatar. Not gonna lie though, it's a little conflicting with your name, but both are old school and respectable cities.

Wikipedia has shat on my microbiology degree. 🙁

That's what I say every time I study for a test. This test will bring me one step closer to my porsche, trophy wife, and jet skis for my lake.

That's a nice house. I would love to live on the water.

Unfortunately, living on the water here = no house after hurricane comes

That sucks man. How is the whole oil spill thing going? Is there a noticeable effect or has the U.S. been able to clean it for the most part?

Wikipedia has pooped on all of us at some point.

I'm not really keeping up too much, but I don't think it's stopped yet because I would have heard about that by now.

It really is not going to be good, that's for sure. Fishing is already closed and will be for sometime, the wetland grasses will die and cause more erosion which means greater hurricane damage in the future.

There's even a new message board on my favorite LSU forum; you should check it out if you want some insider/local info:

Dude, you are really motivated for that trophy wife.

My father told me I wouldn't be happy in life without a trophy wife, and my mom simply nodded and went back to the kitchen trying to make spaghetti and failing miserably. Right then I realized my destiny.
