Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
its too early to start freaking out about residency guys!😱 i dislike research but i can stomach clinical for the sake of app bolstering. But for me, my M1 summer consists of 6 weeks...what can i even do in such a short time? I just dont know how to fit in research or even how necessary it even is assuming you dont want to go into anything road or surgery.

No one is freaking out here 😴

My car is somewhere around the 140k mark and still going strong.

bb what up

i definitely came to love EM after working as a scribe for a year and a half... its true, the hours and pay are nice

ive used groupon in orlando for a couple years, but theres none in burlington =\

you're not too far from boston.

Huh...I've never had more than a $300 refundable (with interest) security deposit, though some places around here might want a full month's rent.

Needing to replace carpet every x years is pretty standard (i.e. normal wear and tear happens). They most likely cannot keep a refundable security deposit for that kind of thing...as in, it's illegal.

That's illegal man.

That's what I thought too, those b!tches. I left the place cleaner than when I came and they still wouldn't give it back. I got them back tho, a bit unintentionally. I moved to a diff apt in the same complex, and before I left, I burned a hole in the floor almost to the floor below with a soldering iron. I left it on and it slipped off the stand. Didn't clean jack and left some furniture there too

What's old? 23? 🙂
I hope that's not old:laugh:
Hahaha. Sure🙂
Happy birthday.
They give deposits back in BR? In Gainesville it's pretty much an understanding that you won't get your deposit back.
Yeah, deposits are never given back where I'm from. Maybe my new city is different though. They did lower my rent without me even asking for it (wtf?)

I'm actually really really into anesthesiology and even though it's part of ROAD, I've heard it's not nearly as competitive as the rest of the anagram, lol
It's not as competitive. But they also work lots of hours (and so does rads) so I'm not a big fan of the ROAD anagram. Optho also no longer banks on average either:shrug:.

I think people are becoming more interested in EM because of the hours.
+1 But for me the hours are the only good thing about it.

Some people try to change it to E-ROAD.

"Where we're going we don't need-- ROADs."

I use the term ROADE (with a silent E).

Mine is 3 years old. Guess you can tell I don't really like driving. 🙄

My car is almost 6 years old. Going to high school 26 miles away really put most of the miles on my car. I've driven a lot less since, excluding road trips and the times when I've driving from BR to NOLA and back a lot.

I think my M1 summer is 8 weeks, so I just want to chill. I'm actually pretty interested in shadowing, since I probably won't be able to do much of that during the school year. It would be nice to use the med student tag to see what different specialties do so I can figure out what I want to do. To me, that would be more beneficial than research. What if I do ortho research and realize I want to do anesthesia? I don't want to have that predicament.

Sorry to get this thread all neuroticised!

It's okay, I was part of the problem, too. 😳

Yup. And no call. When your shift ends, it pretty much ends.

If you read any of the 2009-10 school specific threads right now, it's pretty sad. The only conversations are about people's hopeless waitlist chances. It's depressing, I wouldn't recommend it.

The best part of that website is the banner up top that says "Free "YO MAMA" Jokes!"

When are they NOT free??

Edit: Thanks Jolt🙂

Is it bad that the paranoid part of me thinks that now adcoms can recognize who I am by birthdate?😉

Someone always pays for Yo Mama jokes in one way or another...

my favorite one

We can make a mess as I've hired some lysosomes to clean up after.

someone definitely was studying like high school bio and decided to write jokes to use as mnemonics or some**** with that one

Hahaha

Random: Almonds dipped in nutella = yummy, quick chocolate covered almonds.

Edit: If you go to the main site, there are more categories apparently... like the medical doctors one.

Not as funny as the biochem to me. lol

2010-2011 is more fun. Brings back memories.

More and more of those are happening now.

You're right, it's definitely one of those things that make you thankful for getting accepted this time around.

I think a lot of people do research in the specialty that's most competitive that they're interested in, and then if they decide on something else those programs might just be impressed that you did research at all.

:xf: to that person this year.

They tend to have a low starting salary and a decent income once established, but nothing amazing. Apparently they just raked in the cash in the 80's and 90's but it's not like that anymore. The hours are still sweet though. They did get a large bump from CMS this past year though (11% if I recall, phased in over several years), so maybe they'll regain some ground.

Note the cataract rate change.
