Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If we accept the premise that SDN is an online community, then, as members of the community, we have a responsibility to represent ourselves appropriately. Since I am not yet a medical student, I don't represent myself as one. A fourth year med student isn't a resident; a president-elect isn't a president; a dying person isn't dead; etc. I'm sure a few scenarios exist that are more complicated (for example, if a monkey was transforming into a bear, there would be a period of time where it was both monkey and bear), but this isn't one of those scenarios.

It's not that big of a deal. I'm not going to change it until I start classes, but no one is going to go around policing this.

wassup people.

i'm starting to dislike research more and more. just want classes to start. i dont have to touch research for a looonnng time.

Craigslist does rule, but I've had a lot of trouble selling items in the past. Too many spammers and scammers. Then again, no eBay/Amazon/Paypal fees. I'm trying to get rid of (give away and sell) a bunch of stuff and have had zero potential buyers/takers follow through.

"Indeed they compound. Even at, say, 4% interest, $200 a year over 50 years adds up to $30,000." - that's always a bad argument - that can be used to dissuade you from buying almost anything and the US's consumer driven market would screech to a halt

everything else though is 👍

Bad argument it may be, but it does dissuade me from buying so many things I don't need. The US consumer market (i.e. the economy of crap) is not my problem 😛

hah I use a better argument I use on myself to keep me from buying (meh) stuff:

I have no money

😀 always works

I use that one, too 🙂

I don't know if a lot of people use it - but I use mint.com to keep track of how much I'm spending on various categories (it updates daily from your financial institutions). It's kinda nice to have it all in one place and READABLE.

Mostly it just tells me: "you are broke, stop sending". 😀

I know I'm probably alone on this, but I think it's kind of silly at this point to be so picky about the premed/med student status thing

In some ways, it actually makes more sense to actually have "Medical student" (even though, yes, it's technically inaccurate 🙄) because then when someone asks a question about applying this year, they'll know that you're probably speaking from experience when you respond, rather than just being another pre-med that's speculating with them.

I guess I just don't like being a stickler just for the sake of being a stickler

lol
I agree. However, once you change your SDN alias to "medical student" you should not make threads such as: "what is life as a med student like?".

Contrary to my usual anti-research rhetoric I've actually enjoyed my research this summer. I still won't be doing it as part of my career though.

Mint offers their "free" service by harvesting your information so corporations can learn how to more effectively raise prices and market to customers in the future. Keeping your own Excel spreadsheet(s) or buying the $30 version of Quicken might be a better idea. I use a spreadsheet.

👍 Just started using it. It's sad those since my spending as been higher than my income due to applying to schools. So mint just thinks I'm super irresponsible.

I'm starting to get to the point where I don't even care about companies harvesting my info as long as they don't steal from me. Though, I don't just sign up or add things to my Facebook all willy nilly......

damn I didn't know they did that... Then again - your credit card company already knows your spending habits no? Hmm; this might actually convince me to drop mint.com and go to excel again.

I thought mint only marketed you to companies directly - since they have your financial info, they give you more targeted ads (so ads that would actually appeal to you... so I don't get stupid ads for mortgages...). Damn financial world...

I got off the waitlist at WashU and will be attending WashU. My family keeps saying things like "I'll be glad if you can graduate. Everyone there will be smarter than you." Their reasoning is that because I was waitlisted, I'm not really smart enough to go to this school, and that I will struggle through med school there. Is such argument justified at all?

You didn't happen to be signed up at Pritzker did you? lol

hahahaha that's too hilarious... although it does prove the importance of good patient history taking? 🤣

New required question: "did you perform oral sex and inhale/ingest anything you shouldn't have during the process?"

bbc actually had a related article months ago that condoms were too big in india and they were slipping off/not providing adequate protection

I need to be in the fn sleep lab... I've had like 14 hours of sleep this entire week since Sunday.

running the experiments is not cool.

only plus is i get to sleep in one of the extra posturepedic beds while it runs (AMAZING), but I only sleep for 5 hours cause i gotta wake up before the patients.

I can't wait to move to philly... why? I get to have a tempurpedic mattress again (since my dad's claimed mine at home 😡 )

man, bb. the beds are out of this world. definitely worth dropping a grand or two when i get my own place.

haha. i'd do the same to my kid. can't even hate on the guy.

knowing how awesome my rhapsody was... yea I can't blame him. He was "borrowing" it while I was in jersey city for a couple of years. I come back he's like "ehhh get yourself a new one in philly"

😏

How long are you going to be there? I'll have nothing but time when I come back from Chicago and I need to go up there to finalize moving out of the apartment in BR, so we could hang out if you're there for a little while.

I'm gonna be there for a week, I should have some time a bit later on in the week, I'm leaving there on Saturday. Gotta warn u tho, I'm a bit hobbled right now!

well thats nice that miami sent a survery to people who withdrew after acceptance.

Yea OSU sends you one too, it's 45 questions long and they send you weekly emails reminding you to complete it :eyebrow:

Of course not. I mean, even ksmi got in there :meanie:

Well that depends on how the transformation is like, if it's like teleportation then there wouldn't be an in-between stage, it'd just be a monkey one second and then a pig the next 😀

1. Hah do you mean float? Hope she doesn't see this...

2. Dude - that was the most annoying thing in the world. Worked though - I finally gave in and filled it out.

3. 👍 🤣 poor ksmi. This is what happens when she doesn't monitor us anymore...

4. I'm sensing a shrodinger's cat paradox here

So you accept my premise that a monkey can transform into a bear...but you suggest that if a teleporter is used, the monkey will become a pig. I...agree?

Wow, despite being "brutal" the toughest AI in C&C: Generals is really, really stupid.

the OSU one was particularly dumb because it asked "what other schools did you apply to" but then it was a drop down box that wouldn't let me choose multiple schools

... a girl who not only beats, but then makes fun of the AI in C&C?

How you doin 😎

Sorry I just read the rest of your post. Clearly according to quantum electro dynamics and super string theory, a mishap in the teleporter stream can only have one outcome:

Tribbles.

the OSU one was particularly dumb because it asked "what other schools did you apply to" but then it was a drop down box that wouldn't let me choose multiple schools

Yea... that was pretty hilarious.

Are you getting Starcraft 2 when it comes out in a few weeks?? As much as I love the C&C series, SC2>>>>>>all as far as RTS goes. So excited! 😀
