what a pain, whats the point in doing these, impressing potential places for residency? Is it possible just to do no away rotations, or would that somehow hurt you? who knows at this point, but i dont think id want to spend another 1-2 months away from my son if i didnt have too.

depends what field you're going into. Some fields (ortho, others) expect 2+ aways, some, like rads, expect 1 and maybe another away in a related field. In others, it's weird to do any aways (medicine etc) it will hurt you a lot if you don't do aways in fields that usually have them unless you're dead set on your home program and a slam-dunk candidate for them.

I am so sorry to hear that. Losing your friend at any age is devastating, at 22 just seems downright catastrophic.

ah ok thanks drizz. I guess as you approach 3rd year there are several people at your school who would know this and direct you?

I guess the jumping through hoops game just never ends

IMO it's a lot worse in med school than it is as a premed.

There's just of annoying busywork. You'll have an exam on Friday and they'll have some bs small group you have to do for 3 hours the day before the exam, or fill out background check info, or hipaa training, or whatever!
 
That was probably the longest I had been off SDN in quite a while.

Chicago roadtrip was awesome! But kind of sad, too, since me and my friends realized things are rapidly changing and we won't be able to do stuff like that anymore. Things will be (and already are) different, so we just lived it up for one last time.

On the way back from Chicago we ate at two of the best barbecue joints in the country - Pappy's in St Louis and Neely's in Memphis. They were both amazing.

In other news, I AM DONE WORKING FOR THE MOVIE THEATER FOREVER!!!

I went out last night with my friends to celebrate. It was awesome. One of them is moving to Dallas on Friday, though. That sucks. I'll probably visit before school starts.

I know, I'm so happy! I was thinking the other day before my trip, "wow this is the last weekend I'll ever work outside of a hospital."

Pretty sweet, this whole moving on to bigger and better things deal.

We walked up to it, found out we couldn't go up the arch until 2:30 (it was 11:30 at the time) and said let's go eat instead. I saw it up close, good enough. I'm sure I'll be back at some point.

That's kind of scary, not knowing and seeing the place until you get there.

I love my new apartment and it's kind of nice to know a lot of city in advance since I've lived close most of my life. Living in the actual city of New Orleans is better than the last 4 years I've spent in Baton Rouge or at my parents' house. I know ksmi will probably disagree. :laugh:

OMG I finally got my PennMed email account. I was starting to get slightly nervous about it, since I set up everything else. Sigh. Penn's IT team fails. At least it's out of the way now (it was supposed to be done by early july at the latest)

Man, Columbia is starting so late compared to everyone else. Our orientation still isn’t for over a month from now.

But I guess it’s better late than too early. I felt bad for my friends attending Case. My undergrad ends spring semester pretty late so they barely even got to enjoy their summer before classes started again.

@Stein, sorry about your friend. That sucks.

Hey, is it really REALLY crowded there? My friends and I were thinking of going next spring, but I thought it'd still be pretty crowded since it just opened and I'd rather actually see the place.
