Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm trying to decide between tortoise/turtle or lizard right now.

I would go with lizard, depending on the type. My tortoise requires a lot more effort than my snake. My fiancee's leopard gecko requires almost no effort, so would a bearded dragon.

I think the MSAR Data thread started purely because of my Rick Roll :meanie:

Nice.

Sleepy time. I hope my money arrives by Friday. :xf:

The leopard gecko sounds like a good idea. I won't even need to buy a new aquarium for those. Also, it looks like it'll like my coldish apartment more than the other lizards.

i have two leopard geckos. they're great. but we got sick of buying crickets to feed them, so we're growing our own now. kind of cute, actually. they're kind of clear so their bellies turn green if they eat lettuce, and orange if they eat more of the carrots.

You read my mind! I was just getting ready to post a question about this. Are the crickets easy to grow, and do they make lots of noise?

they aren't really that hard to grow. Once they're eggs, it's jut keepin them humid till they hatch then giving them some veggies. But the adults that you need to make the babies can be a bit loud chirping, especially at night.

But if you don't grow your own then you don't really need full grown adults, so they would be quieter.

hey dude where have you been?? how's that school you go to? 😀 (that is if you've started yet)

hey there! School is good. We're 40% done with genetics lectures already, which is crazy.

Oh, btw I forgot...

Someone in financial aid screwed up my stuff and now I won't get my money until around Sept 3rd or something. They didn't realize that I did my entrance counseling and MPN in APRIL and turned in my award reception letter WITHIN 2 DAYS so they just let it sit there without telling me anything. I went in today to see what was going on and they finally fixed it, but I still won't get my money for another 2 weeks when I was supposed to have it already if THEY had done their stuff correctly. So I'm pretty much punished for having my stuff done correctly and early, while other people who filled theirs out late are already getting their money.

Oh my gosh, Anatomy! Why must there be so much to learn?!

I thought I was doing okay until today's dissection. It was so hard to identify everything in our cadaver.

Your school might offer a short term emergency loan. Check with financial aid. Otherwise, we might have to set up an unofficial SDN emergency loan program...we'd hate to see you starve to death/get evicted.

its been 3 weeks and comcast still has not installed by cable modem

It's your cable modem and not Comcast's, right? You can get a nice Comcast compatible cable modem for about what Comcast would charge you to rent one for one year.

I'm getting a $500 emergency med student loan, and then the credit union on campus has a loan thing set up to where I got approval from the financial aid office and I can get $1500. I have to join the credit union, but that's not a big deal. It does accrue interest immediately, but when I pay it back it should only equal like $10. It should work out.

WashU emailed me today and said that they had an excess of Perkins loans. They asked if I wanted one. Since it's interest-free, I'm gonna take it and invest it. Make some monies before I have to pay it back.

👍

i'm never sure what to do about excess loan money...like, if i have leftover loan money from this year sitting in my savings account next year, harvard will see it, think i have more resources, and bump down my grants for next year (right?)

I wouldn't think excess loan $ would be enough to make a big difference. You could always pay part of your loans back, or check and see if the fin aid office will tell you their grant formula.

ahhhh. med school is great. the past two days have been a barrage of ridiculous educational experiences. i am honestly stunned.

My roommate got out of class, went out to dinner, just got back, and now she's hitting the bars. She's a first year pharm school student. I studied 5 hrs straight today and I still have more to do tonight. :lame:

My class is really really white. There aren't even that many Asians. I can totally understand the URM thing now.

My class isn't bad, about 1/3 minorities, ~half of of which are asians.

We have a grand total of 14 URMs. My class isn't very diverse. 🙁

Honestly, I thought Miami would be more diverse, especially with more latinos. I did kinda expect the relatively small number of east Asians tho.

I'm lonely.

+pity+

I took a break earlier and tried to figure out the SDN posters in my class(other than stoney, obviously) and I think I've figured out 2 more, making it 4 total thus far. Having trouble with this one guy tho!

Since there are only like 3 or 4 LSU posters, it's not too hard for me. But then again, it still is, because I know me and one other. The others elude me, especially an international MD/PhD student because there are only like 3 internationals in our class.

I need to start more threads. 2 years and I have yet to create an epic thread. Thus far my most epic is Marathon runners: I scoff at you with only 23 replies. 🙁

Maybe I should just say something inflammatory in pre-allo.:laugh:

I started the LSU-NO 2014 thread. Even though it's only on page 2, I consider that my life's work.

Have you guys checked out the allopathic forum? It's scary over there. Too much serious talk.

I actually try to visit there every once in a while to see if there's any relevant information. Which is rare.

try clinical rotations or step 1... lol The allo forum is lame 🙁

I went to clinical rotations once and it was pretty cool.

yea, dont let it frustrate you though, you really start to pick things up by labs 2-4. where are you guys starting?

actually deep back is pretty fun, you will be chiseling out the vertebra for the spinal cord. its actually a good time

Da back. I thought everybody started with the back.

Yeah, I'm sure it's just one of those "getting used to it" things.

i think its all diff. we start with the thorax, then abdominal cavity, followed by the pelvis, the legs, the arms/shoulders, and finish with the head. i dont think we even dissect the back.
