Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I actually try to visit there every once in a while to see if there's any relevant information. Which is rare.

I went to clinical rotations once and it was pretty cool.

"O M G residents are so mean..."

"how do you keep track of ALL your patients?" (all 2-3 most likely)

"where can I stay when I do my rotation at mayo?" (most likely a hotel)

Thats clinical rotations in a nutshell.

Last day of anatomy!!! I just have to survive this NBME, then I AM DONE WITH MY FIRST SEMESTER OF MEDICAL SCHOOL!!!!!

White coat tonight to celebrate.

See, that's just CRAZY. You're finishing your first semester and I haven't even started classes!

Th-th-th-that's all folks. First semester has been fun. I'm looking forward to white coat tonight and then going to Boston and doing positively nothing until August 30th.

Funny slide today: 77% of alcohol related medical student arrests are males and 100% Caucasian.

It's been a loooong first week. Going to drink my sorrows away now with my classmates. (paid for by the med student government here, of course).

Btw, lunch lectures (aka free lunches) are awesome. That would be at the top of my pro list for going to med school.

60% on the practice practical today = all weekend in the lab before monday's test+practical 🙁

Oh no! I really really wish I could have been there to take it. Will you be in the lab on Sunday? Maybe you can point out some of the things you were tested on to me.

I keep forgetting that embryo is on the anatomy test too. Do you know the embryo stuff well dingy?

Yea I'll be there, I'll be there all weekend

No, but it'll be really easy, and there'll only be like 3 questions on the exam(out of 120). Somebody asked Dr. Warren about it, and he's like just know the big concepts like 5 weeks is when gastrulation occurs and 3 weeks(or something like that) for the heart to beat. Reading the slides and getting the gist of things, especially ones pertain to anatomy obviously, would be enough.

You don't wanna skip the reviews on an entire section, but if you're really pressed for time, embryo is as good as any to skip. It might not even hurt you since you actually went to class and presumably paid attention so you might already know the big picture stuff.

Just got back from a retreat with my classmates. We did diversity stuff yesterday, followed by a sweet dance party. Then we did a ropes course today. So much fun! But I'm beat.

I climbed both the wall in the bottom left and the tower on the right on this brochure. 😀

Guys if you want to add me on facebook search for Nurbek at University of Iowa. I think I am the only one who pops up. Good luck with M1!

Just finished my peds ed shift...

All I can say is w t f haha, ppl do some pretty f-ed up sht haha

Some chick shoved a wiffle ball in her vag and left it for two months and it fused to her mucosa, another guy chopped off his arm with an axe... Need more?

I try to tell normal people all of the weird vag stories and they just don't believe me. They say, people can't possibly be that dumb.

Well....I am totally sharing this story. It will become the new vag standard against which all other vag stories will be measured.

On a side note, our school is apparently doing something new and having all the m1s do a shift in the ED, a week into school, helping with history and intakes etc and seeing cool stuff! I wish they did that when we were in school! The attendings let them do a lot too!

Interesting. Sounds kind of like the Baton Rouge ED, just slightly more exciting. Did they save the X-rays of the chick?

I don't think they took x-rays bc she told us what happened. It was crazy tho, GYN had to come down and take her to the OR.

So the "ground zero mosque" is two blocks away from ground zero? Now I'm really failing to see why anyone cares.
Yea, I think some people are just using the mosque thing to get people the rally behind them. Some opponents (maybe most?) are just using this as an excuse to express their bigotry really. To say that 1.5 billion people (1/4 of the world population) are responsible for 9/11 or are anti-American is beyond unfair.

The whole argument doesn't make sense to me because many also talk about how they CAN do it but they SHOULDN'T. When has anyone in America ever done anything they SHOULD do (health care, economy, etc.). When our ancestors moved to America they signed on to allow these rights to the citizens and by continuing to live in this country, we sign on to allow these rights, so opponents need to just deal with it. They have the right to protest but to make this a national issue and a smear campaign against a religion and people supporting their right to practice it is a pretty sleazy thing to do. I'm not too worried because in the end I think it will get built and no one will be pressured out of their constitutional rights.

To be fair though every accepted group in the country has gone through this kind of struggle whether it was Catholics in the 1860's, women in the 1920's, or African-Americans in the 1960's. Currently it seems like its the turn of the Gay-Lesbian-Bisexual community along with the Islamic community. I'm guessing that after these 2 the Latino population will probably be next to go through this struggle.

That was kind of a long rant but just throwing that out there.

That's ridiculous. People just need to chill out.
I have no beef with the mosque. I only have beef that if placed there, some stupid american is gonna do something stupid in "retaliation" and its gonna start up a whole new feud on both national and international levels.

they shoulda just built and not said anything. no one would have cared then.

excuse the spelling, im using freaking IE.

Same fear here but I think it will eventually die down after the mosque is built and people accept that it's there to stay.

I think they tried building it without saying anything and have been fairly quiet about it throughout this whole process but it's certain bloggers who live in NYC like Pamela Gellar who have catapulted this into the national spotlight. She's not the only one responsible of course, but she's been one of the earliest and loudest opponents since the beginning and trying to get this onto a national stage, which she now has.

So our first test is coming up and I'm really starting to resent the fact that "everyone at Loyola is so cooperative that people even send each other their outlines!" They weren't kidding. I think I've gotten like 10 outlines of all the lectures from people. I'm all for cooperation, but this is getting a little downright ridiculous.

met I am so sorry. this is super rough. 🙁🙁

were you expecting?

No, I really wasn't and that's what makes it suck so much. I guess he wasn't looking as lively lately but I kind of dismissed it.

I just feel like there was probably something I could have done better since he was so young. It feels worse than a 1 yr old cat or dog dying because their life expectancy isn't 50 yrs.

Le sigh... 🙁

Thanks for all the nice posts.
