How did you find that out?

That makes sense. I haven't talked to anybody about it yet, but that was about the point difference for mine as well!

Hey dingy, quick question: for cell biology, do we need to know any of the clinical correlation stuff? I know sometimes he indicated that we didn't need to know it, but sometimes, he didn't specify.

i think u mostly just have to know the carcinogenic aspects, he didnt specify those but he did stress them in class. otherwise, i doubt it, his sample quiz questions are all pretty straitforward function/structure questions.

Huh, just found out that Gilroy's Atlas (Thieme) is available in whole (it seems) via Google Books for free.

Obviously having a hard copy is better, but just putting it out there.

EDIT: I lied. Seems that it's all there, but they put a limit on the number of pages you can look at... That's what I get for posting after only glancing at it.

dang, just took the cell bio and histo sample tests(~1/2 length), aced em both :meanie: should be able to pass tomorrow no prob!

Well I already bought the thing, so whatevs. It's nice to have a digital copy, but I bet stuff like that takes up a lot of space. I'm surprising finding Netter's to be slightly more useful lately, but I'm looking forward to the tables in Gilroy.

Thanks man!

Gilroy's has its advantages, but fewer labels can def get annoying when you need to look up every other noun in your text/syllabus and know its relation(anterior/posterior/etc.) to other structures. For example, there was this question on my test that basically tests me on the course of the ureter, and my memory of a picture in Netter's with the ureter running along the posterior abdominal wall and coursing under the ovarian/testicular vessels as it enters the pelvis definitely helped me answer that question. 👍 My memory of the phrenic nerve coursing between the veins and arteries in the thorax before popping out anterior to the bronchi helped me answer another. Use both if you can!

What it doesn't have, however, is for example how the vagus nerve runs its course throughout the body, and I've heard that Gilroy's is excellent with that!

Sweet, flights to Dallas just dropped by $100. I'm now flying instead of driving. Those 12 hours I save are worth the extra $100 it costs to fly instead of drive.

And now AA won't send me a confirmation email after I already closed out the page with my code on it! :wtf: It better be there in the morning.

I'm proud to announce that Stoney and I survived and passed the first exam week. Amen.

🙂👍👍

We made it! And I totally made up for my anatomy performance with my histology and cell biology grades! Woohoo!

Wow this thread seriously fell down the page.

I went to Baton Rouge today to see the fiancee. It's going to be rough only seeing her on weekends, but at least it will give me plenty of study time. 🙄

Oh, and I finally received notification that I will be getting my loan check. They just have to cut it in the business office. Too bad that's going to take like 2-3 weeks.

This histo lecture is painful.
I'm dying in genetics lecture. He has read off all of the slides... and today we're going over statistics. Do you know what it's like when a prof reads off complete tables of numerical statistics?! :boom:

lol man, i hate lectures

I'm going to wait a couple of weeks and figure out what works. Right now, I'm paying no attention at all in histo and the anatomy textbook covers all I need to know. I go to anatomy because I might as well since lab is an hour later. As far as HPD (our fancy name for embryology) goes, I could probably just learn off the slides.

At school from 8-4:15 today. :scared:

First day in the hospital. Wearing the white coat was weird. I don't like looking like I know things when I can only identify some cells, some hemoglobinopathies, and some nerve things.

Unless you skip some stuff or don't do much, might as well get used to it. This week I had two days spending 11 hours on campus.

Haven't found much time for that, yet. That only this eel only 1hr lab related stuff. Weak sauce.

 You don't find that to be exciting?

Yeah, I will be at school tomorrow from 9-5... 😱

What did you get to do in the hospital today?

Hah, sounds a lot like our school!

Oh, you guys are in the hospital already? What do u do there?

If we go to class we'd do pretty much the same here...I'd guess that stoney's pulled a couple of these already.

i completely agree! on tuesday a guy with a little kid asked me where the peds unit was and i didn't even know that much....i explained i was a 1st year med student but he looked at me like i was crazy for not knowing the wings of the hospital haha

it seems like most of you have a lot of class time, i'm really glad we usually go from 9-12, 2, or sometimes 3 at the latest. but it'll get worse when we have anatomy lab a couple times a week til 5 starting in november-we do things really different then most schools in that we do anatomy slowly from nov-may rather than take it all at the beginning. i actually don't have any class tomorrow though, so exciting!!!😀

....of course, much studying stll needs to be done. i think i'll check out the library of congress and try studying there for a change of scenery.

i can't answer for ksmi, but we're doing practice patient interviews once a week. it's fun, kind of shows us the light at the end of the tunnel🙂

A lot of the interest groups I joined give a lot of cool shadowing and skills lab opportunities. 👍

I'll be happy when the class schedule settles down next week and I can leave at 12 on W and F.

Haha, of course! Tomorrow, I'm going to have to be on campus from 9-5 because our group is presented to last. When do you get to dissect again?

I am so jealous of your schedule! We have the entirety of our anatomy class in 8 weeks. That's why we have such long school days! After we're done with anatomy though, supposedly our schedule frees up a lot.

And that's so cool that you get to study at the library of Congress! Are you liking D.C. so far, jackson?

I think floatie's school sets up similarly, except her anatomy runs from oct to jan. Still, not bad!

Nice nice, I think we get started with that stuff after we're done with anatomy in ~5 more weeks.

We dissect tomorrow 😡 Our dissections are sooo friggin long, we have the longest(30 pgs) and the second longest(26 pgs) dissections out of all the sessions :/

that's awesome! we have our activities fair on monday, i can't wait to see what kinds of interest groups there are🙂

i do like DC so far! i haven't had too much time to enjoy it yet, but we have the 3 day weekend completely free of studying next weekend since we'll just have had a test so i plan on exploring🙂 i also just love walking through the city to get to the bus, walk to the grocery store etc and see all that's going on (i'm sure that sounds kind of weird, but i guess what i'm saying is that i like just being in a city even if mostly i'm looking at the inside of a study classroom😛)

Well, for what it's worth, we have the most dissections! Granted, the first one was so easy that it probably shouldn't count...

That's nice that you will have that weekend to explore!! And no, that definitely doesn't sound weird. I get to walk everywhere or ride the metro to get to school, and I love it too! It's so much different than where I've lived all my life where I always had to drive everywhere.

wow; it's been forever since I've been on... did I miss a lot?

also, people at penn party. A lot. I mean like EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. It's not that I don't have time to study; it's that I don't have time to study, party AND play video games and watch netflix at the same time 😡

wow that's crazy!! frm the people i talk to i don't think it's like that here at all except the night after a test... or perhaps i'm just not part of the crazy partying crowd! i would definitely not expect that at penn though haha. oh ps, have you met the guy i went to HS with yet?

I noticed ksmi was able to go to the hospital today.

It's been 4 weeks and I can say that I'm not even really sure how to get to the hospital from my lecture hall. 😳 😡
