First day of anatomy today! 😀

Labmate sliced my knuckle with her scalpel, but it was still an awesome day. I really feel like a medical student (finally.) lol

Me in a week! The anatomy part, not the slicing of the knuckle part...hopefully.

I'm not feeling very creative with the avatar, so you just get this one.

This can't be an avatar. But I felt like I needed to share.

Thanks, brook-guru 😉

I used to like Rohen, too, especially for quizzing for head and neck... then I found two pages where some old person's shrively ear (lobule) was tagged as the parotid gland. So you just have to be careful.... but, really, they should have caught that by the 7th edition, don't you think?

Dingy! Are you ready for the Doctoring quiz?

I got sick yesterday, so I didn't study for it at all 🙁 I figured it's more important to get some rest and get better so I could study for genetics/biochem.

The anatomy atlas is the only book I used for M1.

This year we have questions out of assigned readings so some of the books (big Robbins🙁) have sections I have to read.

Question for Yoda: How important is it to memorize entire biochemical pathways. Also, boo to forced reading of big Robbins.

Yay for starting Anatomy! Yuck for getting cut on the first day!

Oh no! I hope you feel better!

Two midterms down. I know I passed the first one, pretty sure I passed the second (just got done with it). One more to go.

Then I'm flying home for the weekend!! Hooray!!!

yay for it being (kinda) almost the weekend. I want the weekend to be here so badly!

done with 4 exams, devo was so not fun, and I only have one left, too!

True... but it's usually not too hard to find which ones are really important. A drug target, or important regulatory step are good places to start.

About 5 of the enzymes on my step 1 I was asked about were ones I've never heard of, and I was a chem e major and have a masters in biochem... I would know everything if I were you.

Wow, that sucks. So I guess the conventional wisdom of just worry about the main enzymes is wrong then? Or you just have really bad luck.

Totally wrong. There's people who got 40+ biochem questions on their test. I had at least 35. If you just study first aid you'll get murdered.

There's going to be questions on step 1 that you will have absolutely no idea how to answer, guaranteed, but you don't really worry about those. Biochem, though, is remarkably high yield.

In general, the test is just really random. I scored well over 250 and I was essentially guessing on ~10% of the questions. It's just not stuff that's covered in any real source. I had a path question that my dad who's a pathologist had heard of one time at a conference, haha.

Last midterm in an hour. W00t! It's physiology so at least it's interesting stuff.

Question... do y'all have cumulative tests at the end of blocks and stuff?

I didn't think we did, but we have some cumulative portions to all of our exams (10-15%). 🙁

In spring, we take the NBMEs, so those are cumulative.

Holy crap it's October 15th

Man, I was so excited for this day a year ago

It's October 15th officially. We're old news, guys.

Wow, you're right. Ah, memories.

One thing I can hang my hat on is that I was the first SDNer (non early decision, of course) to post an acceptance last year. That's right, be jealous.

They actually moved it to the 18th this year. I woulda been pretty pissed if it happened last year lol
