Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
for those of you applying to BU are you guys doing the supplemental essay outside the narrative question, if so what are you writing about. would it be considered whining if i talk about the mcat and my preperation for it and that my score does not refelct my preperation or should i not draw attention to my score at all and write about something else?

Im not doing the supplemental question and i may not even do the narrative one unless they want me to repeat different parts of my application. I guess you could talk about your mcat score...really being that its so low im sure they would ask you about it at an interview assuming they want to interview you. Personally I feel it would be whining and I would stay away from it but i doubt it can do much harm if you were to do that anyways. They either arent going to like your score and reject you based on that, or are going to be interested in you despite the low score and probably question you about it later.

Damn, you know me way too well.

Ha ha. Did you really go shopping with your mom? If so, that is pretty scary that that is exactly what I thought you would be doing... :scared:

For a school like BU I would recommend doing the supplemental, because they get so many applications (~13000) that you might want to differentiate yourself from the rest of the pack.

To the above poster, I suppose it depends on how you phrase your essay. I would say that if you are going to discuss how it's not indicative of your ability you better have a damn good reason to back it up or your just blowing smoke up everyone's arse and they'll smell it from a mile away.

last year, I did not do the supplemental or whatever you are talking about for BU and got an interview.

So tired and sore. Our captain was making us try all these cool yet difficult tosses - tosses that no one can get right on the first try. Like there was one where we tossed it and had to spin in a circle before you caught it and another where you and someone else stand back to back, toss at the same time and turn to catch the flag that is behind you. And another where you have to catch the flag behind your back. I didn't hit my head thank goodness although a few girls did. I banged up my elbow, side, and fingers pretty bad though. But I got the tosses down, so I guess that a positive.

And then, just when I thought practice was painful enough, they pulled out the scale. I hate weigh-in days. 😡

Now, I shall be lazy for the rest of the night.

why is that relevant for the color guard? do you guys have to jump on people and stuff?

Completely ridiculous. They shouldn't do that.

Yes, it's annoying that we are judged by our appearance and our spot on the team depends upon it. But when we're out on the field the fans judge us by how we look too. So it's kinda better to make sure only the girls with the best figure actually are in the public eye. Yes, it's superficial, but I've put up with it for 4 years. I even lost 20 pounds so that I wouldn't be cut from the team as a freshman. That was one of the most depressing talks ever. I already had received a scholarship to twirl for LSU when I was a high school senior. At tryouts that year, they couldn't cut me, but the band director pulled me to the side and told me to lose weight or I'd never perform that year. So yes, it's hurtful to girls' self-esteem, but in the end, when your team that you put a lot of work into isn't referred to as the overweight dance team rejects it's worth it, well, to me at least.

You can't even eat the food you like!
For example, I just had a Starbucks Frappuccino Caramel Grande with Whipped Cream for $3.80. I mean you girls can't do that anytime you want, right?

Well, we do exercise a lot during the Fall. But generally, no to the sweets. Every once in a while I can have something fun. And the weight we have to keep (or lose from) is from tryouts in April. And the season ends in early January, so we can have anything in the Spring as long as we don't gain too much weight before April.

Poor Ksmi.

Also, eularian circuits blow my mind. My elec engineering friend is always talking about them and its mind blowing
I graduated EE and I never heard of an eularian circuit until I just looked it up on wikipedia! 😱
Is the "talent" thing like part of guy language? I thought it was something that my guy friends made up. I think it's so weird that y'all think you are being so smooth using a code word when we obviously know what it means. (Or maybe that's just my guy friends).
Never heard of "talent" either...

Man, I'm out of the loops today. Go Magic.

last year, I did not do the supplemental or whatever you are talking about for BU and got an interview.

What were your stats, if you don't mind me asking. I know BU had some weird picks last year and just wondering what you had that got you through to an interview. I would apply to BU if I felt like I had a chance to stand out from the 13000 other applicants.

Unfortunately, just about everything you do for the rest of your life will be dependent on your weight. Fat people are viewed as lazy slobs and whether it's right or wrong that's the stigma.

So, if you want work promotions, a new job, residency placement, or medical school acceptances you're going to be better off fit. [/tangent]

I'm just rooting against Kobe for fun. I really don't care about either team. I think the Lakers have a decent chance at winning the finals though.

~3.6c/3.65bcmp/35mcat (i applied md/phd - got waitlisted and withdrew)

i had a friend who got into the md program with 3.96/36 and others with 3.3/low 30s

i think we might be a feeder school

Eh if its just standing out from the pack i think everything about my app speaks for itself just for the sake of being different, whether thats good or not i guess ill see in another 9 months or so. Saying how you love the research at BU or something isnt going to make or break you...i know some swear by the philosophy that an optiuonal essay really means spout bs why the school is your number 1 choice, but i dont suscribe to that. Not to mention unless you know a lot i mean alot more then you can just get off the internet about BU id say its obvious when ppl are just spouting **** just to be doing it. And boston doesnt quite get 13k!!!! but it might as well be 🙁...i honestly felt like i just wasted money applying here but w/e.

Yeah, I'm with you. It just kept the trend of the "weakness." Which I cared about more than the outcome of the game. ha ha.

You don't think I already know this?

Just making sure...

Ahh, gotcha. Nice, man! Are you doing an MD/PhD program or did you go with just an MD?

Are you at BU now?

man lakers won...seriously though beyond that, this has got to be one of the worst finals ive ever seen 😡

I would like to officially extend a good luck to each and everyone one of you prospective medical students during this application cycle. You are embarking at the steps of your destiny.

Thanks, man. 👍

Best of luck to you in med this fall!

I hear you, man. You very well could be right. I'm still contemplating the optional essays though.

celebrate with dignity LOL

nah, i'm not at BU. I got into a MSTP but after working full time in a lab, I can't see myself as a PI. I just didn't like the hiring of post-doc/lab member and the grant writing process and all the bull****, so I took a md only acceptance (the mstp wanted me to go through md interviews again and talk to the dean for md so i was like eghh the difference in tuition wasn't worth it)

i kinda wish i knew what i wanted before i applied though

i'm glad kobe got his ring. we can move on.

i'm glad patrick lost. if you cant win it as a Knick, you don't ****ing deserve to win, ever.

Well, I'm glad you figured that out now. That would suck to realize that 5 years into your program.

Where are you planning on going for med?

its a school in philly [to be somewhat anonymous ] i realized that i enjoyed philly and the people i met really don't, so i might as well stay here and i know a lot of the people in the city so why not.

i kinda wish i applied to more schools out of the tristate/boston/dc last year. i want to see cities like portland, denver, places in cali, miami, etc... or hawaii (unlikely). i wonder if I'll ever get to.

Nah, whatever Finals Spurs is in, is the wost. Remember the 2007 vs the Cavs? Horrible.

Nice, man. I have a buddy starting at Temple in the Fall. He's pretty pumped about it. There are some really good Philly schools.

Well, you'll always have rotations and residency.

that **** was pretty bad. when the lakers use to dominate things got pretty bad too (sixers pacers)

Second of all, though I'm a bit biased, I love every time I get to see Lebron taken down a peg 😛

Hey, I also love to watch LeBron taken down a peg as well.😛 But that Finals was just excruciating.

Just got home from the game. That was terrible. I didn't even stay for the trophy celebration and all that. We've been choking in games every series, but I think the lakers' hands were finally big enough to get them around SVG's fat neck

Dude, you went to another game!? Damn!

Yeah, honestly the Cavs were so overmatched, it was more of a celebration of the Spurs than an actual series. Fun to watch if you're a Spurs fan, but I can easily see how it must've been hard on everyone else.

Really interesting how fans of both teams from the ECF think their coaches are terrible...

yeah, i'm very fortunate to have a connection. honestly though, it wasn't even worth it. it was such a depressing game. good to see JJ hit some shots, and kobe is sick as always, but outside that it was just bad

Honestly, I think it's only half of his fault. He just makes TERRIBLE decisions in the 4th quarter and beyond. I can't understand it. Not fouling last game when you're down by three? Playing JJ for all of overtime? Giving Jameer 26 minutes? Doesn't make sense to me.

Well I think not fouling was right, cuz I actually was thinking at the time that with how bad the Magic were shooting their free throws I'd much rather go for one stop than make it a free throw shooting contest; it's how he defended it that was atrocious. They needed to just station people out at the three point line and not worry too much about anything else; instead, Jameer was like 5 feet off of Derek Fisher when he knew Fish was gonna shoot there. The JJ and Jameer stuff is just indefensible, though.

Honestly, even though Mike Brown won Coach of the Year and SVG was close, that award has really become a team award for "which team overachieved the most." Just look at how many of the past award winners were fired in a few years. If they really gave the award to the guy who did the best coaching job, Jackson, Pop, D'Antoni or Sloan would win it every year.

Dude, that's a sweet connection. I don't even want to know what you needed to do for the tickets... :meanie:

Who thinks Jeff Van Gundy and Stan Van Gundy don't look like brothers at all?

I agree about the free throws sentiment, but rashard is a 90% free throw shooter in that case (although he didn't look like it tonight). I dont understand why you're challenging at the throw in.. just send everyone to the line, like you said. Also, don't match up jameer with fisher. Put Lee on him and put in Gortat or something. It's frustrating. Coach of the Year really goes to who wins the most games, or which team didnt win a lot of games last year and now did. Funny how you mention all Western Conference teams hah. What about Spoelstra from the Heat? He did a great turn around job as a rookie coach. Seriously though, the award should be Most Improved Coach, not COTY, becuase Jackson would win it every year (Best coach in the NBA imo).
