Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So... I guess we can expect full and complete deregulation of SDN now?

Warm-up fireworks?? So normally where I live fireworks are illegal anyway, but 15 minutes away, in the next parish, they are legal. But like the entire state has a burn ban, so no fireworks for anyone. 🙁

that must suck. I love fireworks and firecrackers. I like seeing things explode, crackle, pop, bang, flash etc.

We are still having like a city-wide fireworks thingy on the river. But it'll be mosquito-y so I don't think I'll go. I can live without fireworks. I did it on New Year's Eve, too.

. Mosquito-y?

Are we the only two here?

Is this a religious thing, or is it like a county in other states?

shut up and go to bed

hey guys, in the secondaries, do you guys think we should always be talking about experiences that are directly related to medicine?

for example, a lot of secondary prompts ask you to talk about yourself in some way, like special experiences, or rewarding experiences, or professionalism, whatever. are you guys always using experiences like hospital volunteering and shadowing, or do you go outside of that realm and also talk a lot about your other EC's?

I don't always talk about things that are medicine-related.

Nope in fact i think its a better idea to talk about non-medical things to be interesting/well rounded. The PS should indicate why medicine for the most part. I've written about everything from volunteer things i want to get involved/have been in to ecological conservation. Whatever medical thing you talk about (some random story abouta patient, seeing surgery, blah blah) they will have heard a billion times and its probably not going to make some huge impact about how you saw some suffering patient and it made you want to help/ be a dr. I think interesting points from your life that are unique and most likely adcoms may not have seen would be a better way to go but, thats just my opinion , if i end with 45 rejections ill assume my opinion is wrong.... I just think of it like, what med experience have you had that probably 20k other applicants didnt have?

I'm getting so anxious about all this stuff. So much waiting. Waiting for schools to get our apps, waiting for secondaries, waiting to be complete, waiting for interview invites, waiting for interviews, waiting for decisions...

Patience my young one...patience

i think i'm fine with the waiting for secondaries. i like how they're coming in gradually right now. i would really hate to have to deal with 5 coming in on one day, like everyone seems to think will happen on monday.

Yeah, I don't think they will. I think it'll still be a continuous trickle of secondaries. Besides I'll be out of town Mon-Thurs so they better not flood in.
