Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, I never said LSU deserved to be #4. You said it right, those 3 teams are the ones at the top. There should be no #4-10 right now. I think Bama has actually looked the best out of anybody so far. Boise is a joke for the top 5 - they're a good team and will finish undefeated, but please.

USC has another loss or two in them - either to Cal, Oregon, or even Notre Dame. VT can't throw. Miami was overrated. Oklahoma has a shot but has to beat Texas. Pac-10 is totally up for grabs (Oregon, anyone?). Cincinnati is decent, but come on. Ohio State might still lose another, but the Big Ten is horrible.

SEC Champ (Florida, Bama or longshot LSU) v prob Texas (by default) in the National Title.

Now wouldn't this be a fun mess: Texas loses to Oklahoma (or Oklahoma State, or whoever); LSU beats Bama, loses to Florida... but then beats Florida in the SEC championship game. Doesn't the national championship game pretty much HAVE to be LSU vs. Florida, round 3? 😀

Yes... but there's no way ANY of the pollsters would let that happen. There would have to be OVERWHELMING computer pull to override the humans - kind of like in 2003.

so in that scenario it would be LSU v (insert undefeated random team here) or Oklahoma, because you know they would screw Texas again for losing later.

But... that would be stupid. I mean, Florida is No. 1 all season and loses in the SEC championship game to probably a top 5 team that they beat earlier in the season... how could the pollsters possibly put them any lower than No. 2? I mean, like you said, Boise State and all those other undefeateds that are left are total jokes. Unless a BCS conference team like Iowa or Kansas or Michigan were to run the table... I've got to think the pollsters would recognize that those two teams are the best in the nation, no?

BTW, you didn't actually answer the question... I think right now everyone agrees the most likely scenario is SEC Champ vs. UT, but if someone's going to crash the party, who's it gonna be?

SEC Champ v (most likely candidates would be Cincy b/c of schedule, Pac10 Champ, VaTech)

I vote for the Pac10 team that only has 1 loss b/c nobody would want Cincinnati playing in the Championship.

Pollsters would recognize the 2 best teams would be (hypothetically) LSU and UF, but there would be a glass ceiling on the non-SEC Champ.

It's the Michigan-Ohio State situation of 2006.

you @ vandy dawg? that area is nice. you should talk to the locals. i loved the accent

yezzir. this place reminds me of dmouth sooo much, just with more stuff around it, and a bar every five feet. looks great thus far.

and i have concluded that the colts are officially deeper than rap. nasty.

I feel like things will end up being simpler than your situation, though.

Unless LSU improves leaps and bounds, I foresee 2 losses minimum. I see SEC Championship being Bama v Florida, winner advancing.

I don't think Texas is invincible, however. I wouldn't be incredibly surprised to see Oklahoma beat them, even without Bradford. I just really hope that USC and Cincy lose some games to knock them out of the picture.

Oh, and I can't wait to go to Vandy!!!

Yeah, it seems like a stretch... fun to think of those crazy apocalyptic scenarios though 😀

So, college football... I actually mean this seriously and not as a dig at the LSU-ers in this thread (ok... not JUST as a dig at them)... but outside of Florida, Texas, and Alabama, is there ANYONE out there that is seriously in the national championship picture? I mean LSU has been hanging on by the skin of its teeth against really mediocre teams (how's that Washington win looking now?) but is sort of the de facto No. 4 team... and after them, the only other undefeateds are the likes of Boise State, Cincy, TCU, Houston, etc... I mean, I guess you could just say that USC's loss was a fluke, and maybe Bradford gets healthy in time to save Oklahoma, but 4 weeks is a really quick amount of time to see all of these supposed "contenders" run into trouble.

So, after Florida, Texas, and Bama, which other team is most likely to break into the national championship game? For my money, I think it's USC; I think they've got a great chance to run the table, and I just don't see LSU (honesty) winning 2 out of 3 against Florida, Bama and then probably Florida again in the SEC Championship. I'm hoping that Boise State's incredibly poor schedule would keep it out of the championship game even if they run the table.

That's going to be a really interesting situation.

If Boise State or TCU or Cincy or Houston makes the championship game... I'm gonna be pissed.

I wouldn't. It would further illustrate the need for a playoff system, and maybe actually spur some change.

So, for a win in fantasy football this week I need Carolina's kicker to have no more than 10 points and Witten to get more points than Austin. Could go either way, I think.

I've given up hope. It's already been overwhelmingly demonstrated that the current system is completely unfair; bowls exist for the purpose of bringing the schools and the BCS the almighty dollar, and for whatever reason, both are convinced that the current system is more lucrative. Assuming that the public is going to keep watching the national championship game regardless (and they will), there's little real impetus to force them to change the system.

Come on people, how could you be so ignorant as to say Boise State is a joke? Sure, they don't really have the strength of schedule, but that's not all their fault! They are in a conference where pretty much every other team is WEAK, WEAK, WEAK - taking up the majority of their schedule. Then, no power conference team is eager to schedule them because, guess what - there is a very good chance they could lose! Case in point - Oregon. Goes down to Boise in the first week and gets knocked out of the polls. Then they come back and "upset" #6 Cal 42-3, showing they might actually have a decent team, but the damage has already been done. So don't discount Boise when they go the Ohio States and the USC's to schedule a game that would show just how they stack up and they say, "Thanks, but no thanks. (A loss to a school of your demographic would absolutely ruin our season)." Sooner or later people will have to admit there is some good football being played at some of these non-BCS schools.

Oh, and just FYI, I know I'm technically not supposed to post in this thread, but I lurk I every day. While I struggle through pre reqs, I find tons of inspiration in this thread. Thanks guys, and I'm really pulling for you all to get into your top choices (cause I know your all getting in somewhere!). 🙂

I missed the football talk. 🙁 Yeah, I agree with metallica. There's NO WAY LSU deserves to be #4 right now. As much as I love them, we barely beat Miss. State. There's no way that's #4 material. I do like that 1-4 has 3 SEC schools, because we're awesome.

I'm officially a TPR MCAT teacher now. Yay. And my trainer knows someone on the Harvard adcom, and he said that he can most likely get them to give me an interview. So I guess that's cool. But those things never do seem to work out how they should, so we'll see.

That's awesome, congrats! I hate to agree with you on that one, but for your trainer to say that he can get you an interview seems a little far fetched. I think you'll most likely land on anyway though. 😉

Btw, did you guys see the Bronco's stomp the Raiders!? Oh yeah, baby!!!!

Having studying procrastination issues. This is what happens when you take a blowoff class. Nothing's happening tonight, so that's what tomorrow is for.

Only 2 classes this week, 1 tomorrow and 1 Wed, and graded stuff in both.

Boise is a great team. The problem is that we don't know how great because of their schedule.

Sure, they don't really have the strength of schedule, but that's not all their fault! They are in a conference where pretty much every other team is WEAK, WEAK, WEAK - taking up the majority of their schedule. I call BS here. Fresno State is in the same conference, but check out their schedule. Two ranked teams and a very good Wisconsin team all in three consecutive weeks. They also play another BCS team at the end of the season. To say that Boise can't get these games is ridiculous. Yes, they would probably have to take 2 away games for 1 home, but it is possible. Boise plays the "run the table" game: they play one decent opponent early on, and then play easy games the rest of the season. It's not that they can't get games against tough opponents, it's that they don't want them; this formula has brought them to bowl games in the past, so why change what works? All they have to do is wait for the teams in front of them to lose and they end up in the top 10 and (usually) in a BCS bowl.

I'm not saying it's a bad strategy. It's actually pretty smart. The only problem you have is if a team in front of you gets ranked higher initially and also doesn't lose (like last year). Just pointing out though that it is entirely their choice.

*yawn* I'll start talking here more when the subject isn't on Football. I know that'll probably be a long time from now.

Yeah, I can't really argue about the SEC anymore... they're the best.

Also, your general awesomeness might get you an interview at Harvard 😉

Boise State is awesome. I used to go to their games when they were DI AA. They started getting good when I was about in 7th grade when they went to the national championship against Youngstown State. That was the fist year we had beaten Idaho in like the last 12. I even got the chance to watch from the sidelines of the blue turf a couple times! So nostalgic. I was so happy when Ian Johnson ran in on the Statue of Liberty play. They should get a BCS bowl based on entertainment value alone!

happy monday... nothing to contribute to the football thread. One of the top 3 will win the championship. thats about it.

ive realized ive gotten all my invites on tuesdays. so i prob wont even check my e-mail til tomorrow.

welp ice skating

MARYLENNOX GOT HER FIRST INTERVIEW INVITE!!!:soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Scheduled for Medical College of Wisconsin on Nov 6 YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

and I picked up my official Minnesota interview from the post office this morning!! 🙂 🙂

yea my AMCAS addy is pretty old, it goes to my padres. i need to update that sometimes before oct 15th

but yea before i go off to dukey i have to make my weekly predictions

i stopped making predictions after i got the OSU invite 2 weeks ago. and those 2 weeks i heard nothing

last week i predicted like 3 rejections, and got 4 invites
so this week i predict another 3 rejections

so far, the weeks that i have predicted (i predicted 9 rejections 0 invites 2 holds), i received 13 invites 0 rejections and 1 gw hold

the weeks that i didn't predict i got 2 rejections (bu/mayo)

🙂

definitely. i wouldn't like my parents opening my mail and knowing if I get in before I do. my mom has already gotten things from two schools - just the "informational + we like your mcat" type - but she opened and read them before I knew she got them. haha.

so I'm glad all the official mail comes to my apartment (except when packages don't fit in my mailbox and if i'm not home I have to go pick them up 🙁)

i predict you guys have the bestest day ever and that you get whatever you like or the opposite of or whatever works im not even sure.

but i dont think you guys really need my help there

Yay Mary 🙂

i am so thrilled/ happy/ relieved to finally get one . . . you all have no idea. 😛 now that i've got at least the one, i can relax a lot more as i wait for others to potentially trickle in.

any predictions?? i was surprised to get MCW first, i thought if anything it would be my state school first.

in any case this was an excellent way to start the week. i hope you all have good weeks too. 👍

Congrats on invites everybody!!!

SDN just started working for me recently, but my Gmail is still stupid - it's been this way for almost a month now.

About to take a test. Can't keep my mind of Friday and Vandy.

I predict you'll get at least 3 in-state invites, and at least 3 more oos invites. You have great stuff, and I think now that schools are finally looking at your app, they'll start rolling in.

haha . . . i think thats ALL i can get in-state, as i've already been rejected from U of C, and decided against filling out RFU's ridiculous secondary. all I have pending instate is UIC, Loyola and Rush.

still though i appreciate all of your cheerleading for me . . . i feel lame but it really does give me hope! :luck: i hope you get into your top choice. i am jealous of some of your schools (like vandy and baylor) but at the same time now that the reality of all this is settling in, i am kind of glad my first interview is close to home.

of course i have yet to hear from vandy (really weird, i think the USPS just lost my rejection haha) and baylor (which i know doesnt reject until spring) so i guess theres still a very slim chance!

You've got a solid app; don't let anyone on here try and tell you otherwise! Seriously, up until now, I'm sure the only thing holding you back was that your app was sitting at the bottom of the pile; I think these next few weeks could be very kind to you 🙂
