Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think even more annoying than being called by your SDN name is people fishing for your SDN name. I actually had someone start talking about another school while at an interview and how "so and so from SDN" was obsessed with it. That was pretty lame.

I later met "so and so from SDN" while at that interview and found him to be way cooler than the way the random commentator presented him.

well, bam, if we ever meet in person i'm going to call you by your semi-tribal alter ego's name: batumba.

Oh, this makes me want an invite to Harvard for sure now:

(in lobby with other pre-meds)

you: "Batumba, my tribal brother, how have you been..."

me: "Well. Many babies were saved while in the homeland and the chief is most pleased. He sends greetings!"

everyone else: :scared:

👍

forget the invite, you should just show up on my interview day for this reason only.

i've never seen this thread get so far down the front page (within 20 of the bottom)

😱 🙁 Sorry. That happened to my ex when he was flying to his Wash U interview. Had to reschedule and everything. You are at least flying back, right?

Yeah, I'm back now after a 6 PM flight got moved to 7:15, then 8:00, then 6 AM, then canceled. From there I found a flight with two layovers that eventually got me to socal. From there I drove 5 hours home. Tired. 😴

That sucks! Hopefully you'll be out of the airport by the time I get there today.... if you are who I think you are. 🙂

Yep, I'm pretty sure we met. I figured it out after we left, because you had said someone was picking you up, and I remembered you talking about that in this thread. It was great to meet you. 👍

For people that this is applicable to:
I thought my UCI interview was great. Excellent school, excellent location, and excellent people. The students seemed like they could not be happier; many chose UCI over higher ranked privates OOS and a few chose it over other UC's (SD and LA, from people I talked to). Interview was conversational but focused and looking for specific things, which is good because I think it was just challenging enough to be able look good. (If that makes any sense.)

WF is also an amazing school. It's almost the opposite end of the spectrum from UCI; one big med center (UCI has 1st and 2nd years on the undergrad campus), some PBL (a good amount, I think), supposedly super high Step II score and above average Step I (I believe UCI was opposite). Winston-Salem is small but there seems to be a decent amount to do and I really think I would enjoy living there (for different reasons than the OC, but also good reasons). There people were down to business but also very approachable and friendly. Students seemed happy. The interview was actually pretty tough. They do 3 twenty minute interviews, and each interviewer has a markedly different style. I happened to have one really tough guy, which is good, and I really do appreciate his honesty, bluntness, and critisisms. Having said that, I don't know if I passed his test. So we'll see.

Hopefully this helps some people out there.

I'll post a little later about using the public transportation to get to Wake in the SS thread if anyone is interested.

glad you liked wake too!🙂 when did they say you'll find out? They told us the board is meeting on Wednesday, but I wonder at which interview date it doesn't make it into that meeting anymore. Hope both of us get some good news at the end of the week!!!

👍 Best. Idea. Ever. So great in fact that I am really tempted. 🙂

😕 Did Wake say they would be informing applicants before the 15th? I would love it if they did. Just wondering if they told you something they didn't tell my group.

10/14 is the meeting I remember hearing about.

Wow, what a crazy day in college football! This is why I love the sport and find it better than the NFL.
I almost died watching our epic goal-line stand. I would have been so pissed if I had driven 5 hrs, woken up early on a Sat, sat through 2 hrs of rain, and then driven another 5 hrs back all for a loss.

And Tebow maybe questionable for LSU? :scared: :xf:

Especially to Miss. State. I don't believe that you were cheering enough for the both of us, because LSU didn't really do that bad when I was actually watching.

Almost beat ya, but hey, I'm more of a VT fan anyway.

Go Tech!

My wife went to the Miami game when she was in undergrad at Tech, but I have not.

Who do they play on the 17th? Is it a home game? That would be great!

aw I didn't know when your interview date was, they're away at Georgia Tech that weekend. You should be sure to ask at your interview whether med students are eligible to buy season tix!😀

Dunno, I guess both.

So, after this game, NFL fans, which team right now is better than the Saints? Go.

the giants are probably the best team but the saints are up there. i would love to see the saints go against the jets defense too, NYJ missed their corners a healthy jets d vs saints offense would be fun to see

Ravens are looking really good, too.

Well, we get to find out between the Saints and the NY teams in the next 3 weeks. Saints get the Jets next week, bye, then Giants.

Head-to-head always tells the true story.

whatup y'all, from nashville. the cardinals better stop sucking soon.

I'm ridiculously ADD today. I have a quiz tomorrow and I can't even study. I read a little for Immuno and I could barely focus. Ah well. Cram city tomorrow.

So, college football... I actually mean this seriously and not as a dig at the LSU-ers in this thread (ok... not JUST as a dig at them)... but outside of Florida, Texas, and Alabama, is there ANYONE out there that is seriously in the national championship picture? I mean LSU has been hanging on by the skin of its teeth against really mediocre teams (how's that Washington win looking now?) but is sort of the de facto No. 4 team... and after them, the only other undefeateds are the likes of Boise State, Cincy, TCU, Houston, etc... I mean, I guess you could just say that USC's loss was a fluke, and maybe Bradford gets healthy in time to save Oklahoma, but 4 weeks is a really quick amount of time to see all of these supposed "contenders" run into trouble.

So, after Florida, Texas, and Bama, which other team is most likely to break into the national championship game? For my money, I think it's USC; I think they've got a great chance to run the table, and I just don't see LSU (honesty) winning 2 out of 3 against Florida, Bama and then probably Florida again in the SEC Championship. I'm hoping that Boise State's incredibly poor schedule would keep it out of the championship game even if they run the table.

i agree w/ you. its probably USC. OSU, OU and Texas might end up at the top playing UF (if they stay healthy).

i'm gonna be ballsy and say that all the bowl games will have the same exact teams as last year, with Florida winning the title, USC winning the rose bowl by a blowout over Penn St, alabama getting embarrased, Va tech winning their bow game

Yeah, I never said LSU deserved to be #4. You said it right, those 3 teams are the ones at the top. There should be no #4-10 right now. I think Bama has actually looked the best out of anybody so far. Boise is a joke for the top 5 - they're a good team and will finish undefeated, but please.

USC has another loss or two in them - either to Cal, Oregon, or even Notre Dame. VT can't throw. Miami was overrated. Oklahoma has a shot but has to beat Texas. Pac-10 is totally up for grabs (Oregon, anyone?). Cincinnati is decent, but come on. Ohio State might still lose another, but the Big Ten is horrible.

SEC Champ (Florida, Bama or longshot LSU) v prob Texas (by default) in the National Title.
