OK, you're right about minutes. At first I thought it would be cool since more minutes = toughness. But, since stars get rested when their team is up, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Games played is a possibility, but that's sort of dependent on the schedule, and I don't think it really makes sense with head-to-head scoring.
I like fouls though, as I think it speaks somewhat to a lack of defensive ability if a player gets a ton of fouls (or he's guarding someone good). So if your center is playing cavs, you might lose some points because you're matching up against Shaq. What do you think about foul-outs instead of fouls?
Also, let's talk about some other categories: free throws made vs free throw % and 3 pointers made vs 3 points %. I'm leaning toward free throws made because percentage can be 1-1, 2-2, etc. Free throws made speaks to a guy's ability to drive, get fouled, and make his shots. Free throws attempted is also an option, but I don't really like it. As far as 3 pointers, I'm leaning pretty heavily toward 3 pointers made, as I think that's more of an important statistic than %. If your team takes 1 shot during the week and makes it, I don't think you deserve to beat out someone who was 6 for 10 from 3 point land.
I feel like FG % is good since a lot of shots will be taken, and FGs made is sort of already taken into account with points.
There are also separate categories for offensive and defensive rebounds, but I'm content with just having total rebounds unless anybody has any objections.
Another option is assist/turnover ratio, which I'm not a huge fan of since we already have categories for assists and turnovers. In theory those two could be replaced with a/t ratio.
