UW on nov 6th. I tihnk its my nxt one i forget. I was hoping UCI would pull through didnt even buy my tickets for nov interviews...i actually dont even remmeber when some of them are lol.

so of my 4 interviews in nov, 1 of them i really dont want to go to at all...but its stupid to cancel it before an acceptance right? Its just this one school i really have no desire at all to go to. Its not really the school that is bad but the location just i doubt is for me. Am i being an idiot cancelling it? someone tell me i am lol.

I feel the same way about this school that dw does about nymc 🙂

yeah man go. Without an acceptance, it would be stupid to pick and choose interviews.

I think you have to ask yourself...would you go to this school if it was the only one you got into?

If you wouldn't (you're saying you'd rather reapply), I'd say that's the only possible reason to not go (and even then...you might go on the interview and really like the place)

im having the same sort of issue! i really don't want to go to my interview on monday but it seems silly to cancel. maybe ill just reschedule and push it back in the hopes ill get an acceptance before my rescheduled date?

i tried that...but they next earliest date from my current nov one is like late feb haha 🙁...at that point i might as well just not go. I guess ill just buy my 3 tickets for the schools i know i want to go to and save the last for another week. I honestly might rather reapply then go to this particular school...as stupid as that sounds, but i guess who knows.

what i would do is take the reschedule date in feb just in case then hopefully cancel it. 4 plane tickets would be reallyyy expensive though so it does seem understandable to cancel it.

Yeah I did that once last year and got exhausted too, especially as I flew literally all the way across Texas between the two. And accepted to both 😀 So just tell yourself you're in the "interviewing zone," they can't not accept you!

Other than that, sorry to anyone who's still riding waitlists and rejections right now. Just keep remembering that you're all still waiting on decisions from a bunch of great schools, and you just need one of them or one of your waitlists to come through. I know you'd really like to be done at this point, but try to have some faith that if several schools saw something good enough to interview you early on, at least one school out there is going to accept you 🙂 Just get ready to write some letters of interest/update sometime in the next month if you don't hear anything, and keep your head up at any other interviews you may have lined up!

Can anyone who has been to Pitt, tell me the selling points? And the bad points? I just realized that it would be ANOTHER back-to-back next Monday if I did it, and I don't know much about the school or Pittsburgh area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dude, not even all of the adcoms know when calls start going out. Info from the admissions office is kept locked up tighter than Fort Knox. Don't know why they can't be more transparent in this process, but it is what it is. I want to say that sometime this week, they'll be likely to make some decisions... but it's just a moderately educated guess 🙁

school that impressed me the most so far.

1. largest hospital system in the country. Pitt owns 19 hospitals in Western PA out of the 22 total and I think they have 3 hospitals abroad - Italy, Ireland, Japan.
2. 4th amongst all institution in research funding from NIH. They have top of the line research in transplantation, regenerative science, simulation, robotic
3. 9% profit margin for a non profit
4. Pittsburgh is doing very well economically
5. Faulty reimbursed and picked on how well they teach and mentor (they get more lab space if they are rated to be good teacher
6. Fully funded programs in PSTP/CSTP (5yrs bench/clinical) and a large MSTP that collaborate with carnegie mellon.
7. the students were really chill - interviews were stress free
8. Free chipotle for all UPMC people on mondays
9. Free Bus transportation all the time for all Pitt students
10. The skyline is beautiful. I was hating on it before I saw it. but driving through and turning the corner, its seriously one of the nicest views.
11. Very student friendly - nice new facilities
12. cheap/free season tix to pitt games
13. "Soaring up in rankings". I think Pitt has been climbing 3 to 5 spots in that USnews rankings each year and are at #10 now, according to them.
14. I think the school will only get better.
15. One of the three biggest simulation clinics in the country. they have robots that give birth and simulate labor as well emergency situations and are buying surgical ones
16. good lunch food
17. The city is fun, one of my good friends lived there. Good for sports/bars. Cheap cost of living.
18. One of the 7 schools in the country with a fully NIH funded translational research center
19. girls are average (vandy ones are better)
20. still an east coast feel to the school, but there are lots of hills (no joke)

Sorry Blue, don't let the application process get you down! You know as much as anybody here that the process causes us to question ourselves and our abilities at times, and you also know it's nonsense because you made it this far and will get in to the medical school that's right for you! 🙂

i didnt really want to add this. but i work at penn (have been for over a year). i was more impressed with Pitt than this current institution. but you would probably like penn better driving through 34th street going to the health campus looking at CHOP. but Pitt is really really impressive. Feel like im not gonna get in, but a cool place nontheless
 
how many times do I have to tell you, chipotle makes you crap blood in your pants.
 
basically, as you know Pittsburgh and all the lake cities - Cleveland, Pitt, Buffalo - have been going downhill with the decline of manufacturing and the switch to service. With UPMC, they were able to use healthcare to revive the city and they avoided the housing collapse. The city is doing well. It has an old city feel (if you go to the quality inn, you'll see) but many of the buildings are really really well. its always good to see cities come along and provide jobs for its people

its a ridiculously relaxed interview. its not a bad thing, but its a ridiculously relaxed interview for everyone. no one will say that there was a challenging question - which is the fun part of interview, sometimes. what i mean is, that i have a feeling interview isnt a HUGE deal of their admission process, and that kinda sucks

im at einstein right now, and am having the worst student host experience ever, and thats saying quite a bit considering ive stayed with students at 8 interviews. he just left me at the library, isnt very fluent in the english language, and im starving. the apartment isnt furnished, i didnt see a couch, theres no living room, just a black shaggy rug in his room.

anyone been to einstein and know of somewhere to eat around the school?! i dont plan on venturing too far into the bronx at this hour...but im so desperate i might risk getting mugged/killed for a cheeseburger or something.

Aren't there vending machines around the building? Buy some chocolate bars and munch on those.
 
i told my friend i was staying in the bronx and he offered to clear out his bathtub so i wouldnt have to.

where is the cafeteria?? its probably in the hospital but i wonder if the library is connected to the hospital...

hmm they told us when i interviewed there that the little italian place on the corner right near the school is good...like if you just go out to the main street that the school runs through then walk down the hill it'll be there. sorry your host is so bad!!

you should google map nearby restaurants and have them deliver to you. NYC places will deliver anywhere and everywhere
