Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It seems I can't study with pure focus for more than like 3 hours consecutively. Not good. Oh well.

I'm still probably going to request a ticket for the LSU-WVU game on Saturday even though the tests are on Monday and Tuesday.

The first couple of days, I'd push myself to do like 6 hrs at a time. That got really tiring REALLY quickly, so now I just do about 4 and spread the rest of my studying into the night.

Our first exam was 2 weeks and it covered the entire throax and abdomen + embryo 🙁

Oh, and PHEWWWWW HISTO IS OVER!!!! :soexcited: Cell bio...done. Histo...done. Last man standing--Anatomy. Now prepare to die, anatomy :meanie:

Yaaay!!! We survived! 🙂

Woo hoo!

I got cast in a supporting role (complete with a dance solo) in the WashU med school musical.

😀

Congrats!!

I'm super excited about my part, especially since the musical was one of the main reasons that I really wanted to go to WashU. 😀 I'm really excited about the people that are in it too. Love my classmates!

That's so awesome to hear! I'm happy for you. 🙂

What ECs are you kids doing in med school?

It's weird for me because I'm so used to the whole club thing, but EVERY club here is medically related, and I kinda like to use my ECs as an escape from school. Thus, all my favorite ECs are the musically related ones: the musical, obvi, the Histones, our a cappella group (first performance tomorrow!!), and ballroom dance club (soooo much fun, we've been doing salsa for the past 4 weeks!!). I still do the other clubs but they just aren't as fun.

I dunno. I'm doing research right now, and I'm in a couple specialty interest groups. Kinda sucks but I feel like everything EC at our school fits into one of three categories:

medical specialty, minority/specific group oriented, community health/clinic volunteering.

Not to dump on those categories... there's just nothing that's jumping out at me that has no means to it. Though I feel like I need to get involved in something to start "showing my diversity" as a person. God... I've been reprogrammed.

I'm really tired of all my Facebook friends' stati being about the Saints.

I need to figure out EC stuff to get involved with. I'm in like 6 specialty interest groups  and I need to do other stuff. I could do the volunteer homeless clinics, I could shadow people (which I want to do anyway)...

I'm going to run for the Aesculapian Society after our first block of exams - it's our student curriculum committee thing. I hope I get it, because I'm really interested in learning about the curriculum, what people think about it and how to make it better. I would probably also keep in mind some of the things I liked about curricula at other schools I interviewed at.

Ok maybe I TOTALLY missed the boat on this but when did you become an assistant mod? lol

I'm considering starting up a Mustache Advocacy Network (M.A.N.) here.

I'm also doing intramural football and several interest groups.

I ran for an office and lost. 🙁 But that would have meant that I'd have to stay in town after our midterms. Now, I get to go home, and I have time for other super fun things!

P.S. Studying blows.

Congrats! 🙂

Bedtime. Another 12+ hr day at school tomorrow.

:scared:

I don't know how people with your schedule do it. I sit in class for 4 hrs straight and I'm dying to get out of there by the end. And then I do another 3-4 hrs of studying after lunch and I'm practically brain dead until I finish dinner.

I'm a student representative for an organization and I'm hoping to get more involved with the ob/gyn student interest group.

Today we had 1.5 hrs of lecture, 2 hrs of Histo lab (which is basically free time to study whatever or go home if you don't feel like looking at slides), 1 hr of embryo lab (which was really interesting) and that was it.

I'm just staying at school really late today because we have a mock anatomy practical from 6-8.

The schedule isn't that bad, but when you throw in the small group/doctoring stuff it gets a bit heavy.

what are you guys using to study embryo. we are mostly self study. i was thinking of BRS + bootleg + notes?

why did you decide to go liquid

the market in general is looking over-bought.
This guy sums up my thoughts on the wider market conditions pretty well:

"I think we're getting ready for another leg on the downside," Prechter says, citing evidence of what he says are extreme levels of optimism, including:

  • -- The most-recent AAII poll shows bearish sentiment at 24%, less than at the Dow's peak in October 2007.
  • Mutual fund cash positions being at record lows, which Prechter says should be taken at "face value" rather than the result of massive redemptions from equity mutual funds.
  • The TRIN Index (a breadth indicator) at one of its lowest levels in recent years, indicating extreme buying pressure of stocks at 52-week highs, i.e. investors chasing momentum/performance.
  • source: http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/bulls-go-to-extremes-don%27t-buy-the-%22breakout%22-sell-it-prechter-says-535438.html?tickers=^DJI,^GSPC,SPY,DIA,QQQQ,IWN,^IXIC
I also had only one open position, which I was significantly up on, so it was easy enough to close.

i agree that its def overly optimistic. i cashed 25% couple of weeks ago, i might do so again in a couple of weeks

Allo is once again winning for lamest and most depressing sub-forum. Maybe when I work up the energy I'll attempt to be its savior (and inevitably get all allo-fun banished to all-students).

Anatomy mock practical didn't go as well as I thought while it was happening. Much room for improvement.

I think I'm going to skip the LSU-WVU game this weekend now.

what yall think of the new will arnett (Gob from arrested development) show on FOX (Running Wilde)

My new upstairs neighbor has vacuumed 4 times in the last 7 days. And that's only when I've been home to hear it.

People I fear will kill me in my sleep: new upstairs neighbor.

Nap time.

I've only taken ONE nap since school started...and that was on a Friday afternoon. :lame:

I'm so tired and have so much to catch-up on that I've resorted to eating dinner and studying at the same time. 2-3 hr dinner breaks just aren't going to cut it anymore 🙁

I definitely just woke up from a 2 hour nap...

Goals for today: finish Histo (looking good right now), finish embryo (yeah right)

Goals for tomorrow: understand the nervous system, learn muscle actions until I can repeat them in my sleep, write a good Histo review for the class

This could potentially be manageable...

🙁

I just can't help but laugh at that dog lol

The dog is amazing because it looks just like the expression I would expect to see on some 5 year old girl's face at her birthday party... hilarious.

I am procrastinating because I do not want to study for my Cells & Tissues final... 👎

 I love this photo!

Gosh... I have so much catching up to do. We had our Histology final on Monday, and I just couldn't bring myself to study again for Anatomy until tonight.
