Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, yes it does. Don't be jealous that I have an smod on my side and you only have Chubbs.

Doesn't seem quite fair, does it? Why, oh why doesn't Vihsadas post anymore? 🙁

For the record, I 😍 bananface, DrMom, A4MD, zippy, and Depakote! And I DO appreciate Caesar when he teaches me stuff!

You can't be nice to them!!! They'll stay longer.

And you must use pictures to make your point. Like so:

OMG! I LOVE CATS!!! How did you know???🙂

Oh don't worry, the cops never manage to figure out where I've hidden the bodies 😀

I'm a stalker... :ninja: (oh, and your signature)

The Series of Tubes said:
Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit (Translation: "Neither is there anyone who loves grief itself since it is grief and thus wants to obtain it.)

So, insert "lolcat" as appropriate.

"Neither is there anyone who loves lolcats themselves since they are lolcats and thus want want to obtain them."
👍

Oh, it's not me, it's actually your bff Caesar 😀

👎

Wow, you guys were busy today! Thanks for the welcome ksmi. So, do you guys recommend getting the new MSAR, or are you sticking with an older version? You might have talked about this already, but I just didn't have time to read of 32 pages lol. Thanks!

So, do you guys recommend getting the new MSAR

I wouldn't recommend waiting. If you want to use it to make your decision, then just do it now. Besides the only numbers that are going to change in that book are the tuition numbers (going up). Just my $0.02

Hoooooos ready for easter? I'm ready to start eating some chicken again!

New MSAR is out as of today. 😀

Totally forgot you gave up meat for Lent. You truly are a dedicated individual. Also, I love Easter!!!

Damn, well I ordered one on Saturday and got it on Tuesday (gotta love amazon prime). I guess I got the old one. It says 2009-2010 on the cover. New or old?

What's cracking folks.

Have you guys seen on the AMCAS website that the 2010 application will be avaliable on or around May 5th, less than a month away?

Is that earlier than previous years?

I was planning on getting my stuff in early June, which I thought was the earliest possible in previous years.

Yeah but you can't submit until 6/1 though.

:hello: pitt! I did see that, and it's right smack dab in the middle of my finals. But at least once I get done with finals, I'll be able to work on it.

It is my understanding that the application has always come out in May so that you can fill everything in and such, but the first day to submit said application is always in early June. I'd assume this year is no different. I glanced through that 102 page instruction manual for applying and couldn't seem to find when the first day we can submit is, but I could have easily missed it. But I think it'll still be in early June.

Really? OK that would make sense.

Is that how it's been done in years past? Make it avaliable early May, but you can't submit until early June?

Thanks for the info, makes me perfect sense now. I think the day we can actually submit varies a bit from year to year, but don't quote me on that.

Yes that's how it's done. Don't know for sure if it's 6/1 though. But early June for sure.

So last question for ya'll... what's the status of your application preparation (say that out loud it's fun).

Getting your personal statement together, making sure your LOR are all good, etc.?

MCAT DONE, I'm on my 5th draft of PS, and trying to get packets ready for my LOR writters, also trying to set up extra shaddowing for May, trying to squeeze in as much as I can before AMCAS Submission.

I've gone through 3 drafts of my PS. I've taken the MDAWG. I've asked for my LORs, haven't checked back on them yet. Still have an essay to write for my pre-med committee. I'm lucky that I get done with school on the 8th so I have a month to tie up all those loose ends.

Hi Pitt. I think a lot of the 2014ers here are either just finishing up MCATs or just about to take them. Here's the summary of my application preparations.

-LORs: Asked for 4, but haven't received any yet. Haven't brought it up in conversation much with the professors I'm talking to. I'll start pressuring them in June probably.
-PS: Just finished my first really good draft this week. I probably won't make any more major changes. Although, I probably will read over it at least 100 more times.
-Secondaries: You can find all the secondary questions from last year on SDN in the school specific threads. I think I'm going to start putting those together soon.
-MCATs: Took them last year (I'm reapplying), so no stress there.
-Schools: Pretty close to finalizing my list.
-Today: Awesome weather, had a job interview for my gap year, got another job prospect, and generally having a good day except the stain on my shirt.

Oh boy, it's about time to start this whole thing. I don't know if i'm nervous, excited, sick,... Nah, I think it'll all be ok.

I've asked for 3 letters last month but so far none of them have turned them in.🙁 I still have to ask for 2 more letters.
I'm just starting on my PS. Oh wow, you guys are already on multiple drafts? I gotta start cracking.🙂
I still have way too many schools on my list, I need to cut some out.

It's nice to have productive posts for a change without the invading 2013ers, huh ksmi?😉

:hello: chuck! I'm so excited to see all these new peoples. 2013 has been dominating Pre-Allo for too long. It's our turn now!

Ugh, schools... Bryson, why did you have to mention that? This is by far the thing I'm having the hardest with. I keep changing my mind about schools. I'm looking to apply to 10-15 schools but I just keep changing my mind about which ones. 🙁

I would go more for the 15 route, but your academic history is a lot cleaner than mine.👍

If you end up not filling out the secondary anyway, you've only lost $30, so it's not _too_ much of a loss to throw schools you're not sure about on there.👍

Yeah, it's pretty easy for me to add a reach school whenever I feel like it, because that half of my list is just sort of fishing for an interview and the outside chance of an acceptance. I'm trying to keep my list to 25 and make sure that I have a pretty even distribution of reach, backup, and in between schools.

Excellent forethought.👍

👍 It's good to put a range of schools down, more people seem to mess that part of applying up then you'd think.

Question for you. Any idea how much money you are planning on spending on applying to 25 schools, factoring in secondaries and interviews? That's probably what I'm shooting for, so I was just wondering.

160+24x30+90x25+500x6
=160+720+2250+3000
=6130

This assumes that:
a) your average secondary comes to $90 (it depends on which schools you pick)
b) you get six interviews
c) you manage to spend $500 in transportation/lodging per city (i.e. no student hosts, no tickets on southwest, etc)

I applied to 14 schools and went on 8 interviews. Total cost ended up somewhere between $3,000 and $3,500.

I drove to all my interviews so that pushed travel costs down quite a bit.

Thanks for the info guys. Although painful to hear, that's about what I was expecting. Well, now I don't feel so bad working a lot during undergrad.

Does anyone know how the Fee Assistance Program works? What does it cover? How strict are they? I started filling it out, and am stuck on the non-taxable income or whatever for myself over the last year. I called and they said that's money from aid, parent's ect, but I'm not going to have documentation showing my parents gave me this money or whatnot? Any advice? Thanks!

Poor guys. I'm glad my old man promised to cover all my expenses.
