I spent 6 hours at the library today "studying" with one of my friends. We ended up talking and listening to music more than studying...talk about no motivation...I just keep telling myself that biochem will be over after 230 tomorrow - I can't wait!

Good morning everyone. I just got back from weight training and jogging. We did our timed mile practical today... 8:28. Not amazing but still way better than the beginning of the semester. And I only got like 4.5 hours of sleep last night.

The weather is very odd here. It was real dark and cloudy this morning, then got sunny. Now it's cloudy and dark again. I wonder if it will rain. I hope not. I have to look pretty tonight. And give a farewell speech. What I have written so far sounds bad. I'm bad at speech writing.

hmph. No worries, I'll get the grade, hopefully. I don't want to hurt my GPA now. Totally sucks when all your classes can do is hurt your GPA or keep it the same. Not that I'm complaining... just saying, it's pretty annoying.

Um, hormone-y questions. Multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank... mostly about secretion, actions caused by the hormone, diseases related to hormones, etc.

I agree, but I would still rather have a 4.0 than a 3.9.

On an aside to show you how little some of these things matter...

One of my buddies dad's is the chair of a dept. at a large institution in my state, so he arranged for my buddy to meet with one of his friends who used to be on the admissions committee at my state school, well when the question of competitiveness came up, here was his reply:

He told him a story about how during his first year as an admissions committee member he was struggling trying to decide which students to accept, waitlist, and outright reject. So the Dean stopped by his office and talked to him about his difficulties in the process. Her statement, which I will always remember, "...if all 150 of our matriculating students were flying here in August and the plane crashed killing all of them, we could take the next 150 students off of the waitlist and the class would be just as good."

I had somewhat of the same problem with my major GPA. I had a 4.0 going into 4th year and that was when I wanted to slack b/c I had just decided to do premed and I knew my EE stuff didn't matter anymore. I made it through unscathed though. :luck: to you.

lol:laugh::laugh:. I got my scores back today and i freakin bombed the MCAT! I better get used to living in nebraska or some other horrid place i dont want to live for med school I guess, I think my cali dreams just went up in horrible flames. Im curious about what you guys think though. So I failed the MCAT with a 29Q. I got BS:10 VR: 9 PS: 10 so I guess at least a balanced score? Anyways are there any schools you think I should take off my list such as maybe dartmouth, columbia, mt sinai, on my md apps? I just think even though i have a interesting story and can really use it to my advantage, they will just rofl at my fail MCAT. Money isnt an issue as apps are basically free for me due to FAP. Its more just do i really wanna fill out a 2ndary for a school thats going to laugh then throw my app in the trash can? (Not a URM either btw just one of the many azns who are overrepresented 🙁.)

I could and i damn sure know I would do a lot better but with a fairly balanced 29 im not sure i can force myself to go through the hell that is mcat right. Plus going through a divorce, probably losing my son, and other problems in my life right now are just making it so i know i cant do the mcat at least any time soon...Im having a hard enough time trying to stay focused on not leeting my grades slip....

Elijah, obviously you have good reasons for not retaking. I think med schools would be understanding of that. Besides a 29 isn't that bad. I'd just be sure to explain the situation pretty well in secondaries and such.
 
elijah, I would take off some of those high-end Ivy League schools and add more safety schools. I think UCSF, UCSD, UCLA are reaches for you but you never know.
And I don't think 29 is a "fail".

Firstly, a 29 is not a failed MCAT. It is a good score. Now for schools, I do agree with some of the other posters, that you might want to take some of the top tier schools off your list... That was until I you stated you get to apply for free. You should apply to as many schools as you think you should. No one is going to laugh at your score. They might not ask you in for an interview at some ivy's, but at least you tried, right?

I'm sure you can get in this cycle. You have a good chance according to the AAMC with GPA/MCAT calculations. I added the link so you can check for yourself. An acceptance rate of 90% with your stats is nothing to scoff at. I would love to apply with those kind of odd. 😉

I consider it a fail especially since my practice scores were so much higher...Ill prolly take UCLA and UCSD off the list, those secondaries are beasts. UCSF has no secondary and its free so why not i guess. I dont know what other safety schools there are though...I wont apply to tulane or GW. I guess I could add SUNY downstate, but they seem fairly OOS unfriendly. Any suggestions?

Also i know 29 is still in line for acceptance i guess i more mean fail as im a california resident. So as far as the UC schools are considered its "fail." And I have some personal reasons that I badly need to stay in cali...

Bah! My PS was 5290 and my friends told me it sucked.... 🙁 they said it was too descriptive... So I have to go back to the old drawing board.

I ended up trashing my 1st PS but i think my current one is good...the problem is 5722/5300. Almost impossible to cut it down more w/o it taking away from my essay!:scared:
