So in each of my descriptions am i supposed to "play it up" like you would for a personal statement? Meaning like giving specific examples of why something was so great or why you did an activity, or why you enjoyed it?
Or are we just suposed to basically make a list saying that you did X, Y, and Z?
Also i shadowed multiple different docs, all were basically in the same field though, do i just clump them together and talk about my expereinces? Should i say what i learned from shadowing and why it makes me want to be a dr or something? Or just explain that I did it? And for the title, do i just write like "G.I Physician Shadowing" or something like that?😕😕😕
By "play it up" I meant emphasize all the awesome things you did/got out of it. It's a spin game.
🙂 Some people go with bulleted lists, too, but it's really up to you.
hey all... I could go scourge other threads for the answer, but it takes too long...
Trying to condense work/activites/honors.. If I would like to include multiple honors in the same entry, what would you suggest for the "award date"?
Put whatever you want, then list them all with dates in the box.
👍
what if they are completely different awards?
List them separately. If you are over the 15 activity mark maybe think about whether all 15 of those are really worthwhile or some useless padding. If they are somewhat similar at least in the same area maybe still just add in the description other awards? That was i was reading on the interview feedback thread.
I reaaaaaaaally wouldn't unless you had something significant to say about each of them. If they're completely different awards that are related to other activities, you could use them as nice ways to cap of the activity description. For instance, let's say you really enjoy competitive whitewater rafting, your school has a team (how badass is that?!), and you teach a class about rafting safety, for which you get an award. You can talk about how rewarding of an experience it was, the joy of teaching, going over niagara falls in a barrel, and then cap it off with your award. Actually, the way that worked out, you would probably spend more time emphasizing the teaching than the (equally important) I-do-this for fun aspect...
w00t ive been verified, harvard also just called for interview
No need to visit Case, then.
i guess i should enter my coursework now..
and the PS really needs to be improved..i have written like waht feels like tons of drafts but still not feel like it represents me!!
ahhh... well im sure it will all come togehter?! =)
whats the retrun time on people editing PS on SDN, I know some of you guys have tried it? does it take about a week?
Lots of 2013ers are involved in that and (anecdotally) have pretty good response times.
👍
Have that many of you taken analytical chem? I mean, I wouldn't take it if my life depended on it. Biochem is as far as I go
Hate, hate, hate, hate.
well, if it makes you feel any better, while all my information is in the AMCAS, I guess you could consider it a 'rough draft' as I'll likely go through it and make sure it sounds all nice and spiffy before I submit it for verification. but I also type fast and have mastered the ability to type in courses (second time this month!). perhaps I will bomb this final and all will be right on the pre-med karma scale?
Oh, I did that too, but in outside software so I didn't screw up and hit the wrong button(s). If you're typing that quickly, make sure to have someone check over it for typos/grammatical errors.
do u guys trust regular posters in this thread enuf to meet in person?
In 2013? Sure. 2014? I dunno--some of you people are scary!
There are a number of people on SDN that I would meet in person.
SDN people are fun in person.
🙂
lol ill probably just tell people im a lurker
You can say that all you want. No one will believe you.
do you know of any schools that expect u to send them recs before secondaries, out of the schools that arent on the amcas recommendation system yet?
Mayo does that after they hit you up for $85. Vanderbilt also does that, I think...
When someone says smooth they usually mean something like this:
Am I seeing things or are those stripes in his eyebrows?
Ninja, ninja rap.
