its going well...
the guys that teach me are still learning themselves and they have been doing it since they were 5...now they are 22 and 20 so you are never really done with it

its just learning techniques, and then u build on it, perfect on it, etc etc.
im going to be competing in beginners on june 6th and 28th... so we'll find out how much i've learned then

dude how come u already got secondaries??
You mean you don't have any?

Just kidding dude, they're from last year. I found them on the SDN site under school specific discussions. You probably won't find many MD/PHD essays on there, and I haven't looked for those. I can tell you though, if you apply to Stanford, theirs is 100% terrible.

dude wat about UVA n VCU since u r from VA as well

Just finished entering all of my work/activities and coursework into AMCAS. What a pain in the butt that is.

Still don't really understand why I have to enter some numbers into a form when AMCAS gets my transcript anyway. Ah well, gotta love the bureaucracy.

Time to go play Halo.....

I have UVA's, but I didn't apply to VCU or EVMS last year b/c I was applying MD/PhD, and they dont have a lab like the one I work in. You want it? I also have the others in my mdapps if you're applying to any of those.

do they usually have the same questions?? like most of it?? and yea i would really appreciate a copy of the schools' secondaries u applied

That sucks man. What sucks more is that I'm still in school.

*points finger at Blue and laughs*

I did that with a patient who was already angry for other reasons a couple months ago, face to face. So embarrassing. She had donated to the organization in the past too

Ha ha. Yeah, it makes you feel like an @ss... Now I've got to spend another hour with this guy running assessments on him... 🙁

I remember back when I was volunteering in the ER, my co-volunteer called this lady, "sir". We all laughed but I really couldn't blame her because the woman really looked like a man. I felt bad for the volunteer, though.

Ha ha! Dude, that is hilarious.

So, in the living room with my parents...

ksmi's mom to ksmi's dad: "We could always put ksmi up for adoption..."

:wtf:

They're trying to sell you now that they know you're med school bound.

Tell them I'll put 10 down on you. 😉

wait, come to think of it... why don't they want you, ksmi? you seem like a pretty golden child to me

The better the kid the better the money.

does anyone else feel utterly incapable of posting on SDN without some type of ridiculous smiley? my posts feel empty without them!

Sometimes, but I fight the urge. 😎

also, i feel that i am getting waaaay too freaked out about my activities descriptions. i decided to go the paragraph/full sentence route rather than do bullet points. i'm just so worried, but i keep telling myself that my job with these is to sound interesting and... well, experienced. and most importantly to pique the adcoms' interest so they want to interview me. right?

also, my research descriptions are driving me nuts! did you guys talk about specific duties you had in the lab? (i.e. ran ELISAs, did qPCR, did blots of many sorts, isolated X species, etc.) or did you focus on the thrust of the research? (i.e. examined the effect of X on Y and found that Z happened.) or some of both?

bahhh i am turning into the basket case i promised myself i wouldn't be. foiled by my own brain! 😎

I think if you list your techniques you shouldn't explain them. They should know what they are and if they don't they aren't going to care to learn about it from your app. I think your idea is good, but don't write it to them, just describe what you feel you did/contributed. If they want to be entertained they'll buy a book.

I am writing paragraphs but not even approaching the limit. I am going to talk about the big picture a bit and the types of things we do. I do have a question about it though.
so My research I did as a volunteer last semester, and then presented it for my senior assignment (inter-departmental poster) I am first author. This summer I am being paid to continue the research. We are presenting the research at the neurobio conf in chicago (will I see any of you there). I am first author on that abstract as well. I assume we will probably publish our findings as they are relatively significant (found evidence of transcriptional feedback mechanisms in GluR receptors with AMPA homologs that have never been discussed). I am also doing research for credit this summer/next fall. How many activities should I list this as?

I would list it under one heading of abstracts or presentations. Also, a good tip penguin passed on to me a while back, change the name of your presentation for the Chicago conference. That way even though it's the same presentation it doesn't look like it is on your CV/Application. It will leave the reader believing that you might have modified the presentation. Plus it just looks better.

Oh, I'm authored on an abstract for the same conference I think. Is it society for neuroscience?

So I just got an email from TPR. They want me to teach the ACT. Hmm, at first I wasn't very happy, but now that I've thought about it, the ACT is easier, and I'll get to teach 4 different subjects instead of just one. So, I guess that's a good thing.

That is odd... Is a 40 not a good enough MCAT? I'm guessing it's because you look young. That's the only thing I can come up with. But look at it this way, the ACT is easier to stay up on. 😀

Congrats!

Haha... what pay?

Good man!!! I want to play COD5, but my Xbox is broken... 🙁

If you play on XBL, hit me up for my gamertag. I'm in the middle of a 25 second respawn for blowing up a warthog with two of my teammates in it accidentally, so I figured I'd check SDN.

Ha ha. Tking FTW!!!

Ok. Come over here. 😉

Damn! She's gettin' frisky!

Ooooohhh, score!

One problemn: how do I get there? 😕

:slap:

Now you're just supposed to show up at her door... So much to learn, Grasshoppahh! :uhno:

it IS! October 17-21. You gonna be there?

The discussions in which we stopped having these inane 15-year-old boy fantasies.

We had a discussion like that? But shawty, the only fantasy I have is spending time with you.

Nice, man!! I might. I'm not quite sure. I'm working on a few papers right now and if I'm caught in the middle of them in Oct. I won't be, but if can squeeze away I will definitely be going.

Congrats though! Maybe we'll see eachother there!
