I did understand the question. And it was not completely irrelevant. I said that books are almost always better than movies (I had already said that was true of this book and movie) and therefore it would be worth it to read. The rest of what I said was a counterargument to Lukkie's "it takes too long" comment.
 
dammit. i wanted to apply to Dartmouth, but I have not taken Calculus . . . nor do I plan to.

I am entering my work/activities now on AMCAS now. I think I'm going to stop short of 15 in order to avoid the appearance of fluffing. I grouped a lot of my activities together in what i thought were logical groups. (like- "Shadowing, Surgical" and "Shadowing, Clinical." Also, "employment, undergrad" and "employment, graduate.") i've had too many irrelevant jobs to list them all separately. anyway I am at 11 or 12 things so far. got volunteering, shadowing, working, and artistic endeavors . . . not much in the way of clubs and stuff but i think the fact that i was always working will keep that from being a huge deal.

Ha ha. I was going to say, didn't you just post about being poor. But that will be nice to get a real salary. I miss having one of those. By my calculations, going back to school for the last 5 years has cost me ~1 million dollars... :shrug:

Yep . . . feel free to peruse my mdapps for a list of calculus-free schools 😀 (at least i think they all are, i hope someone can correct me if i'm wrong.) it's kind of annoying on one hand . . . but on the other hand it's kind of a nice way to narrow down my list of 'possible' schools. i dont want to apply to a zillion schools. i think the combined chances of me getting into either my state school or the school where i am doing my masters is so much greater than my chances anywhere else, that it's kind of a waste of money to apply to TOO many. especially since i have no money. (and not that my chances are SO AWESOME here, but they are just better here than anywhere else.) so if i'm not getting in here who knows if i'm getting in anywhere! :laugh:

lol. i don't hate math. i just thought, at the age of 15, that my future career was ARTIST . . . so I stopped after high school algebra! that sort of set the stage for the rest of my exposure to math during college and beyond. (i.e., almost none. just stats!) because i didn't have the prereqs for anything.

i also didn't take physics in high school, or trig. Believe me, taking college physics at 25 was about the worst experience of my life. (this is also why i struggled so hard to prepare for the PS section of MCAT.) at least chem wasn't so bad, it was mostly just algebra, which is fine with me.

if i attempted calc . . . lol. it would just kill my GPA. better to leave well enough alone.

:laugh:. Your basically the only person ive ever met kissme who isnt anti-math, the fact you are a woman is even more odd. The few math peeps ive met...are so incredibly awkward and scary i dont even want to talk to them :meanie:
 
i was a chem/math doublie, but the women in math eggggggggggggh
 
Gwyneth Paltrow was in that movie about math, with Gyllenhal. So there are exceptions, albeit it is a movie.:shrug:
 
I like math. I loved calc in high school. Then I took this lame discrete math class in college, full of comp sci majors and programming, and I quit math.
 
You math people are weird...

For fu¢k's sake, i am still waiting on 1 of my 3 transcripts. Which one, you ask? Not the school I attended three years ago, or the community college I took one class at. No, its the school where i am currently enrolled and in their damn pre-health committee. I even called like 2 weeks ago and they SAID they sent it. SO WHERE IS IT!?! i bet you a million dollars that somehow they did not include the amcas letter form that i specifically attached and said 'PLEASE INCLUDE THIS WITH MY TRANSCRIPT.' aaaaagh. if i have to re-submit my request and keep waiting i'm going to punch a bunny.

in better news, i was able to comfortably pare down my essay. to exactly 5300 characters. 😛

I dont see the harm in it, but if you are paranoid probably best to leave it off. I mean shemarty had hers up and she was just as identifiable (if not more) then you are. Looking at where she got accepted it didnt affect her.

I feel that on rental prices--I have a crashpad for work in DC and I live in Raleigh. The apt in DC is 1150/each per month + utils and Raleigh, well, I live with my folks so its free (90% of my company telecommutes--I thought I would be saving mad bank living at home. Alas, I got the one client that demands on-site contractors). But my best friend has a place where she pays $450/month. Both are 2bd/2ba apts within 50 sq ft. of each other. She has a bigger pool. Now she's off to KS for a new job and has a place that's $500/month LIVING ALONE in a similarly-sized apartment. Not fair.

lol, calc in high school was about the time that I finally realized math wasn't the subject i wanted to major in college and switched over to science.
 
math is a great major. you never have to go to class. just turn in homework and show up for exams. lectures don't serve any purpose
 
for those who applied last year (witness, myuu, etc) when amcas 1st sends out the application "officially" on the 24th were you flooded with emails from schools about secondaries? Or did they come in slowly over the next 3 weeks, like a few a day or something.

that applies to anything that isnt like english or something where you have discussions.
 
they trickle, but most come pretty early (first two weeks). don't expect a flood on the first day, yet. but i am sure you will get a few on your door.

my first math midterm freshman year was when I discovered that sleep deprivation, caffeine, and codeine don't mix. Had a bad cough, so the student health center gave me codeine as a cough suppressant. I'd crammed for the test, chugged some coffee, and proceeded to take my diff-EQ test. About 1.5 questions in, I start to realize that, in "A Beautiful Mind" fashion, the numbers were starting to highlight themselves and come off the page. Got a 94--highest grade in the class and my first and only A in math in college.

completely irrelevent, but always a great story.
 
I'll tell you my own story somewhat gunner fashion. My first exam in undergrad was in Calc III. I planned to get up at 5 AM and study before the exam. So I got up. I went out. I came back. I fell asleep.

I woke up and saw that I was 40 minutes late to the exam already. I was like ****. I thought for a second, and I didn't know what to do cuz i was only 2 months in, so I wore my flip flops and ran. I got there in 10 min, finished the exam and got a 97. Class Average was a 54. Prof told me I got the highest grade when passing back the grades.

Naturally, I got mad arrogant so I stopped doing all homework and missed a few quizzes. I aced the final but still ended up with an A- for the class.

i really don't think there is any, you aren't really going to be a miracle story, unless its a sad one (impossible) - everyone expects you to get into all your schools and your probably will. you might want to use it to organize, but egh? MS Excel >>>>


i'm sure your secondary and interview threads will get organized to keep people updated

To give a full disclosure of my math woes, I got a 50 when I took my final--completely codeine free and well-rested. Luckily that was my last math test in college. I took my B and retreated from the department with my tail between my legs.

The English requirements were much more kind to my GPA.
