i do still dance-- i live in NYC, how could i not? i take mostly modern or african classes with the occasional ballet or pointe work thrown in for funsies. love it.

I just got past initial screening from UCSD! I got my secondary. This feels good.😀

I want a booklet from somewhere.
The most I've gotten med-school related from mail is stuf from the Navy, National Guard and a very small letter from Illinois about their MD-PhD program.
Do med schools have booklets?
Could I call an admissions office and have them mail one to me? It could be helpful for "why this school?" questions.

wow thats fast, i guess they just do a quick numbers screen...which means i wont be getting one...though it makes sense since UCSD is all about the numbers more then anything else.

Yeah, this is probably the end of the road for me at UCSD.:laugh:

At least I will be able to tell my kids that I received a secodnary from UCSD. 😆

lol u got great stats though, i wouldnt think that! Im sure you know even a secondary at a UC means a lot. 🙂 Sadly its probably harder to get a secondary from UCs then acceptances at some med schools :laugh:.

Is the secondary still write me a 5pg autobiography or w/e lol...i wrote a prelim draft taht thing is a ****ing beast...longest and hardest secondary by far.

ha, i am hoping to forget all aspects of this process as soon as it's over. i'll tell my kids about my medical education but i really hope i don't remember the gory details of my applications :scared:

There's like 8 sections to this secondary. It's like a mini-AMCAS. :scared:

lol wtf...scary. All the UC secondaries are freakin huge...i never understood why they had to have such involved secondaries. I guess they all know we are so desperate to go there as residents wed do anything no matter how crazy to get in 🙁

how long are you guys spending on these? significantly less for the long responses compared to the primaries?

a lot less for me...but i havnt had any long secondaries really. Im spending probably a similar amount of time to how i did on 1 work activity or so in the primary. These dont seem as hard as people make them out to be :shrug:

any of you guys applying to UT schools? ive sent so many support messages to TMDSAS that nicole has started getting annoyed with me. she stopped putting the '!' after the messages...shes getting upset :scared:

im just so insecure about my writing and worried its going to come off as simplistic i spend a heinous amount of time writing the longer essay prompts 🙁

My original goal was no more than 3 days or so, but it's varied.
My first one took over a week just to start, and 2 weeks to finish.
My second one I finished the day I got it, but didn't mail it until almost a week later.
My third one took me almost a week.
My fourth one took me about a day.
I guess it just depends on how you react to the prompt and if you have pre-fabricated answers. I didn't have any before I got my first 4, but I've been on a real roll the last day or so, and have even gotten a little ahead of myself. At first, I was totally overwhelmed. Sometimes the creative juices start flowing. It's also one of those things where I didn't feel like the topic would get any better sitting in my mind for a week.
 
secondary prompts = perfectly combining a couple of AMCAS EC section + analysis

when you interview, you will see that different schools have different mission statements/visions. you will also notice that your interviewers most likely do not take notes down (some will) and they will face multiple applicants back to back during the day, read apps, have meetings, etc.

you can expect them to go back to your primaries or secondaries to remember your personality and stuff when filling out those evaluation forms. therefore, you should spend enough time on secondaries to have no regrets.


if you are waiting for them to come in, browse the internet, look through med school websites, last years school specific threads. believe it or not, mdapps might be the best place to get an idea of what a school is looking for in an applicant.

not so much when you get them for stupid reasons like posting a picture of a towel-clad Ms. Fox, but i do believe a bolder, more daring post would make the poster "cool" 😛
