I'm with you, man. The only exception is that I don't want to take any courses at the moment. I'm going to enjoy my year off after 5 straight years (including summer) of classes. I'm spent.

But that means I can point fingers and laugh at those of you who do have classes.

Yeah, I feel something alright.

I'm still just amazed at how some schools, especially the places that seem to base their initial decisions on things like grade/MCAT ONLY are some of the most INEFFICIENT at this whole frickin' thing! 👎

I mean really, how hard is it to click "sort" and "submit?" :idea:

Who says you need to be poor? I'm applying for jobs that will pay 5x what I was making in school. Applying does not equal getting, but settling for a low paying **** job is something I'm not very good at. You make your own opportunities, so get off your ass and go get a job you will like! 😉

I can't imagine a med school will look down on anyone for trying to earn a good living. Now obviously I'm not going to tell my job that I'm applying to medical school, because let's face it, they wouldn't offer up any information saying that the company is planning to downsize in a year and I'll probably be out of work...

How's everyones weekends been? I went to the american idol concert yesterday with a friend and we literally had the very worst seats in the whole arena haha. It was still fun though.

Also, I got we might want to interview you messages from Vermont and VCU. I guess that's one step closer to actually getting an interview somewhere!🙂

yea i think people really underestimate how seating is important for concerts.
sometimes, you end up with a bunch of pre-pubescent high school kids and its kinda weird.

ahh my best friend from my childhood is on that tour!! I didn't have the means to get to a concert when they came round my parts 🙁


best of luck w/ VCU and VT!!! I think I might have a few more weeks to wait for interviews b/c I only started getting complete emails early last week...
 
Anyone know of a good website to get some guitar sheet music? I'm hoping Metallica is around for this one. I prefer stuff with tablature though.

haha well they didn't say it in those exact words, that was just my interpretation. For those of you familiar with the schools, for Vermont I got put into the pool of applicants that they select people to interview from and for VCU I got that they're interested but may be unable to interview me due to an increase in the applicant pool.

haha yes there were a lot of high schoolers at the concert. It wouldn't have been my first choice of concert to go to but my friend got tickets for us as my graduation present which was really nice of her. It was still entertaining even though the performers were literally 1 inch tall when we measured between our fingers😛

does anyone know how specific interviewers expect you to know about what you saw in shadowing?

should i know what type of rejections a transplant patient is facing, what drug they are taking etc etc. i shadowed in an academic hospital and they really move fast during their rounds and i just dont even remember!!!!!!

They know you're a pre-med kid, not some resident or even a medical student. I bet they're just going to ask us what we thought about shadowing, what we got out of it, what were some of the interesting things we saw, etc. I doubt they're going to ask you about types of drugs, procedures, etc. Relax.
 
yea. my dad used to be a ct surgeon (stopped practicing) and i shadowed a transplant doc and the vandy interviewer is a cardiovasc. pathologist primarily dealing with transplantation so my dad things i'm getting grilled like george forman

haha he's a top-10. I'm really excited for him -- he's been singing since I met him in 3rd grade, so it's great that he's following his dreams 😀

and I feel the interviews--they're gonna happen :luck:

I use 911tabs.com or ultimateguitar.net? (not sure what it is)
They have regular tabs, Power Tabs (download this software free!) and Guitar Pro tabs (pay for software that's a little better than power tab).
You can find everything there. If you can't find it there, it probably doesn't exist.

I really wanted to apply there btu was discouraged...hope you get in!🙂 Its nice to see that most of us are having at least some early success...hopefully that means we are all getting accepted haha 😛

You won't need to know anything really specific like that. They might ask what kind of doctors you've shadowed, anything weird/cool/memorable you saw, what you learned ect. But I can't see them asking anything overly complicated about the diagnosis.
 
When will I get my Pitt invite? I heard they accept almost 45% of those they interview. I want one.

I used Expedia to schedule my flight to Pittsburgh. Leaving Sunday, Oct. 11th for my interview on Monday, Oct. 12th. I hope I can get a student host, it would save a lot of money and would be fun too. 🙂
 
Woo, hi all! I spent all day at the beach. It was a nice reward for finally completing the two to three secondaries that had been sitting in my inbox for nearly 3 weeks.

Now I'm tired, so I'll probably not catch up with most of the things I missed. lol
