Class of 2014!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
it works for me but only basic like u. better then nothing i suppose.
I guess so.
Good news - Vandy will take one of my past classes for English! So I only have to take one writing-type class this semester, and I think I'll actually like it! This takes a huge load off of my mind.
Bad news - I have to get my haircut. 🙁 First one since October.

lol same...im waiting till next week though. Gotta be clean shaven too...now i get to look like im in HS again.......ah well off for the rest of the day 🙂

i did exactly what it sounds like-- i "interviewed" for med school. i didn't do it because i'm not calm and relaxed. i did it so i could get feedback about my answers. basically, the "interview" lasted about 35 minutes, and then we debriefed for about 30 minutes.

How did they say you did? Any good global tips for the rest of us?

I already got a C in my summer class. Totally slacked off. I wonder if it will be okay.😳

I would wait to slack on the rest of your classes until after you get an acceptance. From that point on C's should do the trick. Although, I'm too stubborn to allow myself to get C's... So, I would probably still shoot for the "A" and settle for a "B" if it came my way.

so on Shade45 (a satellite radio station), they do this thing called Feel Good Friday...where you basically just say what you feel good about now that the work week is over! so i figure, let's do it too!

FEEL GOOD FRIDAY!!!

man. i'm feeling good because i just came back from my new part-time job training sessions and its an awesome job. I'm now a Fitness Trainer 😎

now I get paid for going to the gym that i've been going to for the last year. can't feel any more good than that.

they said i had a great smile, great body language and amazing posture

they also told me i was rock solid on the "why medicine" and "why this school" and "what do you want to do with the MD" type of questions. as far as the more generic interview questions ("how do you define success" and "tell me about yourself" and "describe a stressful situation and how you handled it" etc) i sometimes fail to bring it full circle and tie it back into medicine. don't know if it's a good idea to do that with every question because it might seem disingenuous, but i saw their point-- try to see each question through the lens of "why medicine," but only speak explicitly to that if it works really well, i guess.

also i made a couple of stupid mistakes... i mentioned politics when talking about my fellowship, for example. but overall i think it went really well and it was a helpful experience.

i'm feeling good because... i just ate some chocolate? i'm not actually feeling that good right now. totally bored and frustrated with life and friends and job. but the chocolate helps 🙂

musc (mstp) invite (w/ full accommodations!)

predictions for the week: 0 invites, 1-2 rejection
results: 0 rejections, 2 invites!

invites are like roaches, they pop up when you least expect them

Nice! It sounds like you did a solid job. I would also say that I agree with some points being related back to medicine, but oftentimes they are just trying to see what kind of person you are outside of medicine. I think it can come of canned if you try to hard to stretch everything to the "Why medicine" question. Just my take though.

not much, it's gonna be thunderstorming all weekend. probs staying in tonight, going out tomorrow night, and taking dance classes on sunday.

i agree. tell me about yourself does not necessarily have to go into medicine. i like to answer that short and sweet just so i dont go on (because i can)

I find that one of the most difficult questions to answer. I've spent most of my adult life/career asking other people about their wants and desires it's difficult for me to reverse that and give up information about myself...

I foresee myself answering this question differently for every interview I go on.

EDIT: Actually, I guess it's not really a question, is it?

Almost high school short in the back and sides, and kept a fair bit in the front. It's just that my hair is ridiculously curly, so it makes it look a lot shorter than it really is.

Don't sweat it man, mine is probably 1/4 of an inch long. I love it. It's so easy to take care of. I can just wake up and roll out if I need to. I think nature helped out a little up there as well though. ha ha.

👍

Yeah, when I had my advisor read over my PS the only point she really made was "well, you really don't talk much about why medicine." I really don't think people have hammered me too much for it to date. 😉

I gotta tell ya, I think people worry about this way too much. Don't worry; the committee will ask "why medicine" or something similar at some point. That is the time to tell them. Otherwise, unless you really feel that you find yourself NATURALLY tying things back to this, don't. You'll either sound like a robot stuck on what I like to call "career mode" or you'll just talk too much and/or not come across in the manner you would like.

Good.

That would be honest. I know very few interesting people who are completely the same as they were the day before.

How short did you go?

?

just slack and get B's that shouldnt be too hard! Thats what i did this summer and will do next fall...take some **** p/f too haha.

Or you could audit if you don't need the credit. I had to audit my yoga/pilates class because I'll be missing classes for interviews, and the teacher told me I would end up with a B/C if I'm going to miss that many classes. WTF...when were yoga/pilates classes not P/F?

The real question is how do you fail a yoga/pilates class?

shouldn't ksmi be done by now? why hasn't she returned?

So I called Northwestern today to see why my LORs haven't appeared on my status page, and they said they don't have them, and to go ask AMCAS why they weren't sent to them. Wha? I checked with AMCAS, and they did in fact receive the letters, and I did in fact indicate they should be available to Northwestern's MSTP. So, what? It's not AMCAS, NW just hasn't downloaded them. What up with that?

i heard that schools download them at different times. some once a week, some twice a week, some every day.
